A word from Jose and Sons
We serve comfort food that celebrates our forefathers’s Mexican roots and the culinary traditions of the local neighborhood.

"Intentionally or not, with the opening of Jose and Sons the Ibarras have also created a gastronomic symbol for the cultural melting pot that our region is increasingly becoming."

"Painted around the base of the bar, in large block capital letters, are the words “HECHO EN RALEIGH.” I can’t think of a more suitable motto for a restaurant that embodies the best of our rapidly evolving local dining scene."

  • Great Restaurant for Mexican!

We made a reservation for noon on Sunday and were seated right away. My friend's 3 year old came with us and we were grateful J&S had a Kids Menu and also a fun craft activity to keep her busy. Prices for brunch are reasonable - most dishes were $9. My friend loved her shrimp & grits - would have licked her plate clean if she was at home. My other friend loved her dish too - not sure what it was wrapped in a tortilla and had a black bean sauce. I had the Guadalajara skillet which was presented almost liked fajitas. The corn tortillas did nothing for me but the chorizo, veggie, egg combination was a hearty brunch. Guacamole appetizer was very good. Negatives - it was freezing outside and seemed very hot in the restaurant. The glasses of water are small - if you drink a lot of water - you will constantly need this glass to be refilled to the point that you feel like an elephant. They either need bigger glasses or they should offer to leave the carafe at the table. Service was good but the server asked me if I was mad at her between the time we ordered and the time we got our food - it was strange as I wasn't mad at her at all. J&S is loud - so it can be a good place to take kids as their noise may not be heard but service is slow so kids may get antsy waiting and waiting for food or the check.

I love Jose and Son's. One of my favorite places in downtown Raleigh. Food is good, try the corn app, so delicious. Margaritas are good. Nice tequila selection. They can easily accommodate large parties. I strongly recommend reservations. Especially on the weekend.

It was a party of three and we all felt very rushed by the waiter. We all got together because we havent seen each other in awhile but we had a hard time enjoying the night. The waiter kept asking us if we were staying for awhile, if we were just hanging out. He then brought us our check when we were not ready to go so we left and went some where else.

  • A special evening...

My wife and I were celebrating a special occasion and contacted J&S for ideas to make the night more memorable. Suffice to say that from welcoming Cava and flowers, they knocked it out of the park. And when it was time for the "main event", the food matched suit. I highly recommend the collard-wrapped tamales with kale & black beans: tasty, inventive and beautiful on the plate. Finishing with the churri and chocolate was the perfect "icing on the cake" and conclusion to a wonderful evening. We will definitely be back.

The space is very attractive and I like the curtains as a way to give a private party some privacy. The service was excellent from hostess to waitstaff to bussers. Everyone was very friendly. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and always came around at the right time. The food was delicious. The flavors were vibrant. The Crank Arm Barbacoa was amazing! Jose and Sons will definitely be on my list of favorites. My only regret is not having tried it sooner.

We made our first visit to Jose and Sons last night, and it was a great improvement over my last visit to Jibarra. The brisket was awesome, and I love that they use their neighbor's beer as an ingredient. Also had the elote, which was second only to the elote at Calavela. If you're thirsty, try the booze and mango, but let the popsicle melt a bit. Our server was awesome, and did not just me when I asked about the proper way to eat my flautas (hint: Like and inside out lettuce wrapped taco). I will definitely be back!

I'm a big fan of this restaurant. I've been three times now and really love the ambiance. Service is efficient and friendly, and the food is delicious and affordable. The re-branding change to a blend of Southern and Mexican is a fantastic idea. Every time I come in I have to get the Market Guac, always great. This time in specific the serrano chili and pistachio combo is my favorite yet!

We went for 10th Anniversary and it was great!! Everyone from yhe hostess to the server assistant made us feel special. The drink menu was creative and fresh. We were greeted with champagne and a tasty shrimp amusbouche. We tried the Market Mojito and Hemmingway- both great with the market guacamole and Gouda n Mac . For entrees we chose the cheevharones and waffles and the lamb and chimmchurrie- both excellent. For dessert we chose the bread pudding and the booze and mango. The service was supurb from Jordan. I hadn't ever been to Jose and Sons, and a friend suggested it, and it was right on the mark. It is noisy, but it's a good vibe and you don't feel rushed. we had a few drinks at the bar, then moved to a table. We had a lot of room at the table, which was nice since there were 5 of us. The fish tacos and the pork belly waffles were the items we all ordered and it was just great. This was such a good suggestion, and we didn't feel like it was over priced, or we had bad service, or really anything negative. I can't wait to go back!

This was a great 1 on 1 brunch-date experience - lots of good food options but we landed on the Steak & Egg Sammy for me and the Huevos Rancheros for her. The former was on point with runny egg yolk, juicy steak and lots of guac, and the latter was a blast of flavor in a mini-skillet. The hash brown patty on the side was a nice complement to both. We both ordered "Raleigh's Best Bloody" to start - it's $9 but is basically two servings of a spicy and unique take on the drink, and comes with a small beer on the side.

We went here for Sunday brunch at the recommendation of Oak City Meatball. I liked the decor inside with a large circular bar in the middle of the room. Some small tables outside. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive and friendly. Too bad it was before noon on Sunday and we could not try the Bloody Mary. Our meals were excellent. We also ordered the guacamole with chips as a starter. Will definitely return for dinner sometime.

We were so excited to go out for a date night and decided to go Jose and Sons. Seated immediately but into a corner cut off from the restaurant. The drinks were good but had to wait forever to get a second. We order chips and salsa and once we got that it took another 45 minutes to receive our meal and we barely saw our waitress. We ordered the chefs plate for two, it was a lot of food but nothing special. Won't be going back.

My girlfriend and I went here for a special occasion. The service was quick and the atmosphere was energetic. This was my second time at Jose and Son's and the wait staff is always incredible. I highly recommend the seasonal pineapple guac. Portion control is apparently a dirty word here, but that's hardly a complaint! The drinks are a nice change from a lot of Mexican joints around Raleigh. The bar staff really knows their stuff. The ambiance of this place is unique as well. Situated in Raleigh's warehouse district, you can dine as a group in the main dining area, with a few friends at the bar, with a significant other at their many high top tables, or outside on the porch.

I ordered an off-menu dish that the owner mentioned in an email in response to my questions. It was one of the best meals I've had in Raleigh! Totally unexpected. We'd been to the restaurant before it changed names and menu (same owners now with their sons). Waiter we had was great! I think his name was Jay. There were 4 of us and we were a gabby group in no rush. Waiter checked in with us regularly but not pushy or impatient, was able to answer all questions we had re: the menu. Food was quite yummy and not same stuff you find everywhere. There was a jazz band that started playing towards the end of our meal. The music was fine, but for me live music isn't necessarily a plus at a restaurant since it make talking a little more difficult. Music wasn't so loud as to make it terrible, just not a plus for me. Prices were reasonable. All of us said we'd definitely return. Gina

After two initial and very very positive/memorable experiences over the past 6 months, we were excited to recommended it for a birthday dinner with friends (one from S. America). Kinda wish we hadn't... A restaurant can't be stellar each and every night, I suppose, and this time (a Friday) must've been one of those nights. My Grilled Skirt Steak was rather underdone and quite tough (but flavor was good), and the accompanying vegetables were only so-so. The cocktail seemed a bit watered down. My wife's Enchiladas Suizas were doughy, underdone, and just not very interesting. Dessert was nice, though. We will definitely give J&S one more try. Hope this was just an off night and a hiccup!

We had the Crank Arm Barbacoa which had a flavor so good it lingered on my taste buds and in my mind for days... My husband ordered the Grilled Skirt Steak. It was delicious and juicy, cooked medium rare... We couldn't get enough! We are planning to take the kids back next week for our son's birthday dinner. Absolutely amazing... We had a terrific time on Saturday evening at Jose & Sons. The chipotle mango margarita was incredibly zesty and fun, especially with the spicy salt. Just as tasty was the spicy grilled pineapple margarita. What nice twists on a classic drink. My wife had the fish tacos that were filled with huge pieces of blackened mahi-mahi; outstanding. I had the enchiladas del mar; the blackened tiger shrimp were a little overdone for my taste but overall it was scrumptious. Our friends had the shrimp & grits and the crank arm barbacoa (beef brisket) and both were excellent. No room for dessert but that menu was quite tempting. We'll definitely be back, and recommend making reservations on Saturday evenings, as we did.
