Diner Reviews
  • "We dined at Jo's with our two children. The food was great - nice atmosphere. Close to the main tourist part of Newport but off the beaten path enough to get a relaxed, quiet dinner. "

  • "We went with the kids for a quiet dinner. The food was great, the wine list reasonable and the desserts amazing. Will definitely go back!"

  • "We were visiting Newport for the first time & checked on Trip Advisor for suggestions . Jo's looked like it had what we were looking for that night . We both had burgers , which were delicious & cooked just the way we asked . Our server went out of her way & to serve us & had a very friendly disposition. If we come back to Newport we will come back to Jo's because of the food & service."

  • "My wife and i celebrated our anniversary over the weekend in Newport and dinner at Jo's was truly memorable! The food was delicious, wines by the bottle and glass are reasonably priced, and the service was top notch. If we lived closer to Newport, we would be regulars!"

  • "We wanted to have a nice place for our out of town guest. Nice menu with a lot of options. Will was very personable as a waiter. The evening was a hit."

  • "The menu had a nice variety of food; however I felt it was a bit overpriced. The service was excellent the waitress was very attentive without being overbearing. I believe where Jo’s disappointment for me was the food. I have had better food that was equal or less in cost. I didn’t feel “wowed” when I left Jo’s."

  • "My first time dining at this restaurant. I was very impressed. The menu is not too large, but has many eclectic dishes. A nice change from standard fare. The Appertizers of Jo,s Baked Oysters and Littleneck Clams with Sausage were superb, as well as the Entree,s of Braised Lamb Shank and Glazed Duck Breast. As a bonus, all Drinks were generous pours. Very Good. Will surely return."

  • "It was a delightful night. Service was spot on and the waiter chat a bit-Very refreshing. Fish and chips was tasty and not greasy . Steak Frit was made to order. I will return to JO's in the near future."

  • "My guests and I knew we'd want a somewhat sane restaurant Saturday night after all the St. Patrick's Day Parade hoopla. This completely fit the bill. A nice selection of food, wines and atmosphere. I had wonderful duck, (hard to get in Newport) and my guests had lamb and shrimp- highly praised on both. We ordered two salads and each had a 1/3 portion- perfect amount. There were several other tables filled, but the noise level was pretty low. The service was friendly and timely."

  • "The menu is not exotic or adventurous but the food is prepared extremely well and the service was exceptional. We had salmon, duck, game hen, and fish and chips (for my 12 year old). My teenaged boys were welcomed there (not always the case in nice restaurants). I was extremely impressed with the high quality of food and cooking, clearly locally sourced ingredients (even in March) and reasonable prices."

  • "I found this restaurant on Open Table and asked at the Chanler, our hotel, what they thought. They said it was new and didn't know anything about it so they could not recommend. We went anyway and were glad we did. Their price fixe menu included the night's specials and a glass of wine! The martinis were large and ice cold. Our party of four all enjoyed our soups, salads and main course. We tried two desserts, both wonderful! Our waitstaff was friendly, attentive and professional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal."

  • "Unfortunately, the food was subpar, but the service was great."

  • "We arrived early so we got good, attentive service from the friendly staff. The place was completely redecorated and was very inviting. The menu looked promising, and since we were the first ones there (on a Saturday night) we figured we had a good chance of getting their best. However, the squash ravioli with duck was almost tasteless, the fish and chips had bland fish and limp chips (which weren't even hot). The steak was a big plus as were the oysters, but the clams had no flavor at all. Either the chef was taking the night off, or s/he needs to go back to school."

  • "This is our 4th visit to this restaurant and as always the filet mignon was mouth watering. They have the BEST filet in Newport. Our server Will was fantastic! The only negative thing to say was that the place was LOUD where we were sitting. We will go back again when we are in the mood for a lively evening."

  • "Good calamari starter although a bit greasy. Arugula salad was good. My butternut squash ravioli barely tasted of squash and was somewhat dry and looked like a brown mess but ok flavor of duck and prosciutto. Wife asked for lobster sand w/o mayo and just butter but it was cold so I figure there was little to no butter."

  • "This was our first time in other than for a private event. We enjoyed it at that time and were looking forward to a great dinner. We ordered the Halibut special with anticipation. Unfortunately, what we received was a piece of pan seared Halibut (plain) and three mushroom ravioli's also plain...nothing on the plate but white fish and boiled ravioli. No sauce, no vegetable, no color, no flavor. The food wasn't bad it was just plain boring. I could easily have prepared a meal like this at home with no experience. The "Special" was not special, Very disappointing. $30 for this dish...not a reasonable price."

  • "Restaurant had a fantastic first impression. Clean and very inviting. Staff was great. Spring roll was devoid of taste and the lamb shank was so plain and tasteless. The duck was super tasty so i will end on a good note."

  • "Dining at Jo's was a first. We were there on a snowy night and everything was terrific. Hospitable and friendly. We had a nice seat and all was well.. I ordered a dish and it was okay ... certainly tasty. I ate as much as I felt like. While I wouldn't order it again there was nothing wrong with it. Prepared well, flavorful, fresh, just not my absolute cup of tea. When the server came to clear up she asked if there was anything wrong and I said no. The manager came over and asked if the dish was okay and I said yes. nothing wrong with it, I just didn't care for it but knew it was still a good meal. Then, without asking or complaining at all the dish was removed from the bill."

  • "This was my second visit. Both times the food was really scrumptious although one must question the ingredients of a dish. They tend to adulterate some dishes with hot spices when you would not expect it."

  • "We were very impressed with our first experience. The ambiance is cozy, well thought trough and elegant. The food is outstanding in taste, unbelievably huge in portion size, and well presented visually. The service was nice and efficient, the prices are very low for the quality and quantity of what you get. $19.99 Prix fix on Sunday was unbeatable deal. Hurry if you still didn't try this gem, you will thank me later."

  • "Not that we are tired of all the other fine eateries in Newport but a new hot spot is exciting and fun to visit. That's the way we feel about Jo's Bistro with it's beautiful new interior, friendly service and yummy food. They offer special events which are fun to try...the last wine tasting featuring Rutherford wines was extraordinary....the wine.....and all FIVE courses...superlative evening. We love it and encourage everyone to try it out."

  • "The food was outstanding, the service was good, ambience was good, adding up to a fine dining experience. The noise level in the bar area, where our table was, was fairly high, but otherwise the experience was great."

  • "Tried Jo's for the first time. The restaurant is stylish and had recently been expanded. The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. We shared appetizers (lightly breaded fried calamari with a delicious red pepper Aoli. Their clam chowder was well balanced with a perfect amount of fresh clams, potatoes and cream. Entree selections were diverse and left us wishing we could try more than one. Each that we ordered were perfectly executed and portions were large enough while allowing enough room for dessert. The apple galette and flourless chocolate torte were wonderful leave us with smiles on our faces. A birthday meal/experience that will be remember for a long time."

  • "The short rib appetizer was a disappointment. They were neither tender nor tasty and were over salted. The big eye tuna was a disappointment. It was absolutely flavorless and only edible when slathered in the red sauce on the pasta."

  • "Just thought I'd say I had the same Sancerre the following evening at a restaurant on the water, and paid 30% more there. It tasted FAR better at Jo's!"

  • "As one of the newest restaurants to open in Newport, Jo's American Bistro should be one of your restaurant stops. Newly renovated and simply chic decorated, this restaurant offers a great selection of delicious and well prepared food. The ambiance is good for small groups or larger ones. Definitely a must!"
