Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of our favorite spots in the Portland area, and a spot we always take visiting friends and family for a special meal. Incredible farm to table food with a tremendous service staff. The grounds are also great for a short stroll after the meal."

  • "Dined here for dinner on a Wednesday night and had a great meal with excellent service. I had the duck which was excellent, but would order the wagyu steak next time as this must be their specialty. They have a huge open grill and burn different types of wood for the steaks. The grilling process produces some dramatic flare ups. Impressive wine list as well."

  • "Beautiful scenery, gorgeous decor, wonderful food --- BUT on the occasion we were there for lunch, hardly any customers. How can it continue to exist?"

  • "If you have never been, you're in for a culinary experience like no other. For the vegetarian, you will be pleased too-great menu!"

  • "We dined at Jory for Sunday Brunch and very much enjoyed our meal. We were there at 12:30 and sat on the patio. On this beautiful day and at this time of the day, we were the only ones seated on the patio so, it was relaxing and very pleasant. The service, as always, was very professional and efficient. It almost feels a bit too elegant for the location and for brunch but I'd rather it be this way than off handed and sloppy. We had a salad to share between the 3 of us (I don't recall the actual ingredients of the salad and it's not listed on the oline menu), we also tried the paella, one of the hash dishes and the lemon pancakes served with fresh blueberries. All of the food was wonderfuly prepared and full of flavor."

  • "I had the pork loin. It was a little dry (slightly overlooked) and was drowning in a corn mash. I had to search thru the mash to find the sunken slices of pork. My wife had the lamb chop. So rare she couldn't eat it when getting close to the bone. When paying premium prices, we expect a premium product. "

  • "We had a reservation months in advance, but were unable to get an outdoor table. The food was fabulous; the wait staff was friendly but not always available. The view was really nice, nice ambience."

  • "Lovely, outdoor dinner at Jory restaurant at the Allison Inn. We are repeat visitors of the Allison Inn and Jory restaurant. Such a lovely hotel and wonderful staff!!! Thank you for always making our visits so memorable."

  • "From the staff to the dinner, everything was excellent. Wine selection is extensive, food was outstanding - perhaps one of the best meals I have had. Everything was fresh. Waiter did a great job with recommendations on both wine and food. Fantastic. Can't wait to come back. "

  • "Simple salads to start turned exceptional with local ingredients matched well. My main was halibut with over a grain base with fiddle heads and other local vegs cooked crispy but not raw. Lovely. Partner had rabbit with risotto and was thrilled. All accompanied with a Pinot recommended by Mark to finish it off. Small neg- halibut was slightly overdone, just beyond flakey. This is a restaurant for those who enjoy trying standard raw materials prepared in an exquisite way. "

  • "I have been to the Allison numerous times. Every time is a 5 star experience except for this one???? Our server was great but her help was unfriendly, and made a lot of mistakes which no one cares but they acted as if their mistakes were our fault? Bizarre! We had to order 4 bottles of wine before one was available and asked 3 times for gluten free bread and I didn't get it until almost the end of the meal and it was horrible. Close to burnt and just bad. We were in the private dining room so that was beautiful. But many of us have been there a lot and all felt like this time was just "off". Not sure what happened. I/we will still go back, this was just a strange experience."

  • "We celebrated my wife's birthday at Jory on May 8. Great service and great food. Jory is the nicest restaurant in our region. Our waiter was friendly but not overly attentive. The food was very good and portions were perfect. "

  • "The service was impeccable ! Our lunch was 120.00 , that was the ONLY thing I didn't like. The food was great, desert was yummy, service was outstanding . It was really nice for a special occasion."

  • "Disappointed in the portions of the food for the price charged. Taste was very good but not exceptional. The Willamette Valley has so many good restaurants that I would seek out others first before going to Allison Inn. Service was not very professional and not timely. "

  • "The food was excellent, if a little pretentious. The presentation was gorgeous but one wondered if the chef actually tasted the food. Pea soup flavor speaks for itself - perhaps a little pop of seasoning - mint? but it s overwhelmed with the crab and not well seasoned. Too much attention to corporate and not individuals - such excellent and polished service deserves to be backed up with happy diners. Smiles are always good and welcomed, there was no engagement with the staff."

  • "This was our second visit to JORY, and we were as empressed as our first. Everything was delicious and the service was impeccable."

  • "Despite a "snafu regarding one guest's lunch (hamburger not delivered on time, then had to be returned to remove the cheese), the service and experience were excellent. Our server was very nice and tried very hard. The management corrected the errors with a complimentary meal for the guest who ordered the hamburger."

  • "First time to visit Jory Restaurant at the Allison Inn…service was disjointed. Specifically asked if the smoked chicken salad was white meat chicken and was told it was. It was not. All dark meat, which I know some prefer but had I been given the correct information, I would have ordered something else. Thing seemed off in general. Will try again at some point."

  • "Everything was fabulous, once again, from the atmosphere, to the service and the food. Whenever we have the opportunity to head through Newberg we make plans to stop for lunch at the Jory Restaurant!"
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "Jory was outstanding in every respect. Elegant ambiance, perfectly prepared dishes, and extremely knowledgeable and accommodating wait-staff. Service is brigade-style so everyone at the table receives their courses at exactly the same time, which I love. Meal is complete with Amuse Bouche starter, pallet cleansers between courses, mini-dessert with the check - everything you'd expect in a four-star dining experience. Jory reminded us of the best locales in Manhattan or Frisco. If you're in Oregon wine country and looking for a wonderful dining experience, this is it. Local wine list is, of course, fantastic as well, and reasonably priced for the quality-level."

  • "Great dining experience except for service. Waitress was rushing us the whole time and restaurant was not even full. Wait staff had just put our plates down and she appeared to ask how our dinners were tasting, before we even touched our food with knife and fork."

  • "Jory was an absolutely surpurb experience! The food and service were both 5 star! Can't wait to return for a dinner experience there."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a terrific lunch after spending the morning at the spa. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. The chef even promised to email the biscuit recipe to my wife! My only concern...I hope that someone is drinking all of that "Congrats" wine in the restaurant that is on display. It would kill me to think that all that great wine would go to waste."

  • "This place has everything. Great food, service, and it is simply beautiful. I love staying at the Allison which means I get to visit jory more. On this visit, we just were there for dinner. We started in the lounge by the huge, roaring fire with a glass of wine. Then moved to the restaurant. Both spots were comfortable. We had a great visit and can't wait until we can return."

  • "A gal-pal and myself were looking for a quiet restaurant, that served beyond-the-ordinary food, in a setting different from what we have in our local area so we could enjoy lunch, and exchange our Christmas gifts. The Jory Restaurant filled all our needs, and, upon leaving, decided to make JORY our annual destination restaurant."

  • "Was very disappointed in the seating arrangement. Saved all year to go to this renowned expensive restaurant for a romantic dinner with my husband. We were squeezed in on a bench seat with other diners on each side of us, within three feet. I will never go ago for dinner nor will I recommend it."
    Dined on 12/8/2013
  • "Our family had heard about Jory and decided to check it out one morning for breakfast. The location and view are beautiful. The service is amazing, but, the food was not worth the price. $17 for pancakes....$19 for a scrambler....neither of which were anything to write home about. We dine out a lot, and I can honestly say the food here was just as good at the $10 plates at Marco's, Gravy, Jam, Screen Door or Tasty n Sons. For the price, I expected a higher level of food, however, this was not the case. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, just not $17-$20 for a breakfast plate delicious. I would maybe come back to see how their dinner plates are, but with so many closer options, probably not."

  • "We've lived in Portland for just over seven years and while most of the fine dining establishments we've tried have been good, none have truly rivaled some of those we found when we lived in Washington, DC. This place was spectacular. All the food was cooked to perfection and the service was equally top-notch. Great wine selection as well. We can't wait to come back and stay at the inn!"

  • "I've been three times (for breakfast, lunch, and brunch) and have had great meals every time. Pricey brunch, but it's worth it. Amazingly good burgers, though between both the bun and the burger are so thick I couldn't get my mouth around the whole thing!"

  • "Great food and service, wonderful view. We had dinner and breakfast at the Jory and it was exceptional. The wine list is incredible."

  • "The salmon and quinoa entry I had for lunch was delicious and very well seasoned, however it was barely warm. The other person in our party said the same. The chili ken was hot and delicious. The desserts were wonderful. Service was fine. Not too much fussing. The setting inside was ok but not spectacular. The evening seating might be better. Heat the food and I would rate it as an excellent restaurant."

  • "This was one of our best dining experiences. Every course was seasoned correctly and the service was excellent. We were skeptical Eating in a hotel but this was different. We split a salad and each had a dinner. I had the pork and my husband the salmon. The wood fired entrees hit the spot on a cool fall night. The vegetables and starches that came with the meal were exceptional as well. I asked the waiter about them and he was knowledgable about the preparation. The dessert ( butterscotch boudin) was the perfect ending to a great meal."
