Diner Reviews
  • "Ate here before the opera because my mother was set on going here. Ate the chicken fajita salad. Lettuce not fresh, slightly toilety taste--I could taste the plate cleaning material. Chicken moist and warm but not seasoned properly. Overall super disappointed. Decent place if you're having a casual cafe/lunch and outside area is nice. But not what I was hoping for my pre opera dinner."

  • "My wife and I have now eaten at every place within walking distance of the Wiley and Jorge's was easily the worst. Ambiance is incredibly uninteresting. The service was underwhelming and the food was boring. On the positive side, the price was reasonable considering the location."

  • "Very decent Tex/Mex very close to all the arts of the city. Ate here before the opera with family. The food was very good, the service excellent, the outdoor patio bustling but quiet. Highly recommended before a show, a concert, or any other artistic event--all within walking distance. And don't forget the cheap car park nearby."

  • "I'd never been before and chose the restuarant because of the close proximity to the Winspear. We ordered martinis which was a mistake. The martinis were filled with crushed ice and very watery. Considering the fact that we ordered them with Grey Goose, all three of us sent them back and requested no ice. The second round was a slight improvement but hardly a good martini considering the price. The food was fine. The waitress didn't seem overly concerned with our table and took her time with food and drinks."

  • "But the lady at the table next to us was super annoying!! Not the restaurants fault obviously but it did effect our experience. We had ordered guacamole as an appetizer and a couple of Margaritas. The guacamole was good but we barely had two bites in and our entrees arrived super duper quick. Since this restaurant is near the theater district I'm sure the quickness is a result in most diners wanting to eat quick and go to their shows. But unfortunately for us, we weren't looking for a dine and dash night and the quickness made us wonder if our food was made to order or if it was pre-made and just scooped up and served. :( However the quick dinner did get us away faster from the extremely loud and chatty lady next to us."

  • "Dined here with friends after a day in the Arts District. It was not crowded, food and service were good!"

  • "It was a cold and wet evening when we dined there prior to a DTC performance, and it was nice to come in from the weather. The service was good and quick, and the menu was varied enough to justify returning to try something different . We would like to come back and sit outside the next time!"

  • "My girlfriend and I went to Jorge's Tex Mex Restaurant for Valentine's Day. She loves delicious food. The waiter knew I am deaf person and great communicate with me and my girlfriend. I saw beautiful outdoor with light. There had great view when I saw Red Box Light on Art Plaza near us. When we arrived, then the waiter asked us for drink then food. They were fast service. We loves delicious dessert and drink. I would recommended to my family, friends, deaf people, and YOU."

  • "Made a reservation, showed up to the restaurant and was told that they were closed not taking anymore reservations and that I never made any reservations on open table. Seriously?"

  • "Our party (7) had early reservations (in advance of a recital at city performance hall). Arriving a few minutes early, we were greeted in a very friendly manner and were taken immediately to our table, which was perfectly appointed in an alcove within the main dining area - private yet not secluded. We were given plenty of time to decide on plates and suggestions were offered as requested. As it happened, we all selected different plates. Everything came out hot and at the same time. But some were more happy with their selections than others - the mole, in particular, was a bit too sweet for our tastes. Three different margaritas were sampled- none were found to be above par. The service was quite attentive throughout, but never obtrusive."

  • "This was our first time to dine there. The service and food was great. The waiter was attentive, but not overly intrusive. We were a bit surprised that it was not packed for New Years Eve, but that actually worked out quite nice and allowed us to be very leisurely. We never felt pressured to leave. It is a very good and convenient place to eat prior to any events in the Arts District. The prices are quite reasonable. We will certainly go there again."

  • "Everything was basically ok but nothing that would bring me back, except for the margurettas? Small space, uncomfortable tables, and very warm!!"

  • "Another, on the way to DSO adventure. Young hostess seemed more together than past adventures... courteous & efficient. Quiet upon arrival, moderate noise level by departure, but still able to have great table conversation. We now have a name to go with the waiter we like and ask for his area at the time of reservation. His service was great, VERY attentive without being intrusive, and an infectious smile [Joswae(sp?)] . Food and beverage was excellent, once again (although we tried a round of the house pre-made margaritas for the first time, they were sent back - and are not recommended, stick with top shelf and you will be very pleased). Brisket enchiladas were very... very good again. All food items were attractive and tasty."

  • "We visited Jorge's downtown Dallas location prior to an evening at the City Performance Hall. The food was typical tex-mex, nothing particularly new or exciting, but not bad either. The restaurant itself is small and was full, but not overcrowded nor overly noisy. I'm glad we made reservations, however; not sure we'd have gotten in otherwise with a party of six. The service was nice, but not extraordinary. In other words, an okay dinner venue, but I won't rush back downtown just to eat there."

  • "Felt a little rushed. We were in and out in 35 min. I was still eating when check was brought & chips taken away. We had plenty of time & never said we were in a hurry. Food was good, waiter was nice but since it wasn't busy he rushed us along."

  • "While our food was fresh and light (something you often cannot say about Mexican food) we were very surprised when the bill came and our skinny margaritas were $13 each. They were quite small and in no way worth that price. That will not keep me from returning but I will quiz my waiter more next time."

  • "Jorge's is so convenient to the arts districts performance venues and they do a great job of getting folks in and out pre-show without making you feel rushed. Great margaritas, superior salsa (I could drink the stuff), and love the salmon tacos, brisket tacos and veggie enchiladas! Also love to stop in and sit at the bar for a drink and snack when I am down in the arts district during the week."

  • "This is the second time we have come here before a show. We are never rushed, the service is great, and the prices are fine (it's the cheapest place to eat in Arts Square). Our waitor recommended the brisket tacos; yum! It's not the fanciest place you'll ever go, but if you're looking for a quick bite before a show it's perfect."

  • "We had a 6:00 reservation on a Sunday night prior to a performance at the AT&T Winspear Opera House, and arrived about 15 minutes early. There was another couple in front of us, and the hostess seemed at a loss as to how to proceed with seating them. The place was not full inside, and the patio outside was about half occupied. When we were finally seated, we had to flag down a server after 10 min. of waiting, just to get water and menus. We were then told we had to order everything at once because "the kitchen is very busy." Looking around, it was apparent the restaurant was not. We told the server that service to this point was poor and needed to improve, to which he replied "we are very busy." We left at that point."

  • "Great food with friendly, prompt service. The weather was wonderful and we ate outside on the patio. A terrific night for all. We'll be back and bring other friends to share the experience with us."

  • "We ate here as for preshow dining. Through open table, we could only get an early reservation. The staff acted very rushed throughout the whole dinner. Our waiter was nice, but seemed as though he wanted us to order quickly and eat quickly. I had the lettuce wraps which were mainly beans with a small bit of beef and very small amount of cheese. The lettuce was cut incorrectly to make a taco, so I cut it into smaller pieces and made it a salad. The tall, thin glass with the margarita was so full of ice there was very little margarita to it. I would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "This time running much later than planned (almost an hour of construction zone nonsense). In and out in 25 minutes, very good brunch, great service, very attentive, and did not feel like we were rushing... even though we were. This will continue to be our pre or post DSO spot."

  • "Jorge's is always an easy choice for pre-performance dining in the Arts District. Food is good, service accommodating and service is quick, but not rushed to make sure you make your performance time."
    Dined on 11/9/2013
  • "I've eaten at Jorge's many times and always like it. The service is fast and the food comes out quickly, so if you have a 6:00 dinner reservation you will have plenty of time for a nice meal before a 7:30 or 8:00 performance in the arts district."

  • "Wife had chorizo / eggs, and enchiladas w/ green sauce and 2OE for me. I had them substitute brisket rather than ground beef (very good choice for a few $ more). Both were done very well. Side potatoes were a crispy and tasty addition. Sever was respectful, attentive, and engaged (seems hard to find in this area, or maybe anywhere now). Nice quiet atmosphere prior to DSO prelude (which was obnoxiously crammed this time). We will plan on this for our next DSO outing again next week."

  • "We have eaten at Jorge's on several occasions and have always enjoyed our meals. The asado for example is absolutely the best I have had anywhere. The food in fact, is not an issue. It is consistently very good. It is the service and the atmosphere that could use some attention. There just isn't any energy to the place. The service is alright but it entails taking your order, bringing the food and then the check. There is no interaction from the servers. A little small talk could trick me into thinking they care. It is not that they are rude. They just do the minimum and move on. We like the food so much that we do go back on occasion but it's certainly not for the fun atmosphere."

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Jorge's before heading to the Wyly theather on a Friday night. Dining room was busy but not loud, which was nice. Service was slow though, our waiter would disappear for several minutes at a time. We noticed that the table next to us had the same problem since they flagged a different waiter at some point. It took longer than expected for our food to come out and when it did, I had to wait for a side dish for a few more minutes and my husband for his second beer. Food was warm but not hot. Overall, a fair experience for an inexpensive dinner. Not bad, not great."

  • "This is the second time we have gone to Jorge's, and I have ordered the chicken flautitas both times. They are the best I have ever eaten. My husband had the brisket enchilada, and it was average."

  • "Made reservation during a busy evening in the arts district. Service was rudiculously slow and poor. Only allowed to order off of miniature "menu into" due to busy crowd. Few selections, 30 minutes before order was taken. Food ok, but not great. Wanted to order guacamole but waitress's never returned. Prices fair, food decent, but do not go during peak times!"

  • "Unfair to rate service as "poor" since our group of 4 visited on a massive event night in Dallas' Arts District. The restaurant was slammed with guests (we had reservations), but was overwhelmingly understaffed. The servers did their best amid the bustle, but long periods between sitting down, getting chips/salsa, getting our orders taken, etc. Again, due to poor staffing, not the energy/professionalism of the sparse servers. Loud, blaring music to the point of near-crazy. Really. It was a relief to go outside, away from the salsa trumpets. Would like to try Jorge's again; its food was delicious, and its waiters were kind and hard-working."

  • "We had a 6:30 reservation on a Fri night but arrived about 10 mins. late so we called ahead. They did not record that we showed up for our reservation even though we gave our names. The restaurant was practically empty, a few people showed up while we were there. Chips & salsa slow to get to the table. I had a top shelf margarita and wife had a flavored one, both were excellent. I had the Asado de Pureco which was good, my wife had Caldo de Pazol that she said was very good. We told the waitress we had an 8 p.m. show to catch so she did a great job of getting our food and check quickly. The good thing about this restaurant is how close it is to the Art District Theatres, the bad is that the prices are just too high for basic Tex-Mex."

  • "Any resturant which is walking distance from the Arts District concert halls has my vote already. But the food was delicious, the service perfect, and the price very, very good for a downtown location. We'll be back."
