Diner Reviews
  • "We came with a large group which they accommodated with no problem. Food and service were terrific!!!"
    Dined on 4/14/2014
  • "Menu item combination was odd, Chicken Picata came with Garlic Mashed, steam brocolli and Cumin Glazed Carrots, just was a strange flavor profile. I had asked for a quiet table and was seated in a room with 8-10 female diners who were very loud and at times verbaly rude. I believe they were asked once to quiet down, but never did. It really ruined the romantic dinner I had planned."

  • "Food was good but not outstanding. Waiter was sub-par. However, it is technically off season so not as good as my experience in season."

  • "We got there early so we had plenty of time to get up to our show! The meal was delicious! We were so happy that when we asked they gave a gluten free menu! The food did take a little time to get out to us, we were concerned with getting upstairs on time. But our server was very quick towards the end of dinner to package our meal and get our check! The food was outstanding!!! I would recommend this to all my friends!"

  • "The noise level was off the charts... Couldn't carry on a conversation at all. Every sentenced was followed by "WHAT?" The menu was very limited and expensive. About 8-10 entrees all approx $30. Food that I chose, Seafood Pasta was good, but cost $29. No salad... mushy vegetables in a strange sauce. Good garlic bread and a tiny (smaller than a child's teacup) taste of fresh tomato basil soup. Soup was ok, nothing outrageous. Service was good when the server was there, but it took her quite a while to actually come to our table and take our order. Food came somewhat quickly 10-15 minutes after we placed our order. Didn't see the waitress again until the end of the meal. Nice dining room, but way too expensive & noisy. Not enjoyable"

  • "The food & service was so below par that I am writing my first review ever!. Show upstairs was very good & seem to consistantly draw a wide variety of good quality acts. Food was very disappointing.... I would highly recommend eating at one of the other fine local restaurants & then just coming for the shows ...Server one word answers to questions...rude & misleading....for the food, a beef medallion special over pasta with a creamy gorganzola sauce...horrible presentation, no cream sauce (rather beef sauce) tiny sprinkle of gorganzola in the center as garnish & worse of all the beef (not tender...super tough & chewy!!!!)...stuffed haddock w/ thin end of filet folded over ( small portion & overcooked)...there's more to share/just stay away!"

  • "My husband and I recently attended a concert at Jonathan's. We purchased the dinner package which included two $25 vouchers toward dinner as well as free valet parking and drink/dessert tickets for the show. Excellent food, great concert. We would definitely go back again."

  • "Food was very good. Lobster tail ----add-on was a little small Service/Sarah and Leo were the best. Thank you both My wife and I had the dinner/show combo--$25.00 x 2 went towards the bill The show was upstairs after we had dinner.Jeff Pitchell and Charles Neville was great time for my birthday"

  • "We had dinner tickets included with our show tickets. Good Caesar salad made at table. Both of us had the Salmon entree and it was moist and delicious. The broccoli and carrots were perfectly done, not over or under cooked. The Jamison's mousse pie was OK, too frozen for my taste. It was a lovely dinner overall and the convenience of walking upstairs to the show made it perfect."

  • "Had dinner before attending the Irish Rovers Concert at Jonathan's. As always, food was very good and service attentive. the menu is a bit limited during the "off season" but well prepared. One can always expect a nice night out at Jonathan's. The Club upstairs offers a great selection of entertainment; quite remarkable for a spot away from the big cities. Jonathan greeted us as always and is a great host."

  • "Appetizer {squid) was under cooked. when we complained the waitress almost argued with us. We had to ask for refills on water and my soda more than once. The waitress was talking with another couple incessantly."

  • "This was a great combination of dining out, at a great restaurant, with great food, service and ambiance, in combination with a great show by the Irish Rovers. My wife and I had a great time."

  • "Our servers were polite, friendly and knowledgable, as was the young lady at the podium that received us. Our server went above and beyond, as we had left our tickets in the dining room. She found us and returned them to us!"

  • "This is the 2nd birthday this year, that we have celebrated here! The concert upstairs was a great end to an awesome evening. Staff and owner are very friendly and very involved with making your experience a great one. We look forward to another dinner soon~"

  • "When ever we go to the Ogunquit region we always make reservations at Jonathan's. It looks OK on the outside but the inside is beautiful. First time we went was as part of a package deal with the Anchorage ( a great place to stay) when we pulled up we hesitated but said lets check it out anyway. Great food, great staff and a fun place to go."

  • "We had a great evening out. Jonathan's is a wonderful place overall. People were friendly and helpful, the food was good, and afterwards we went upstairs to hear one of our favorite performers in a great setting."

  • "Loved the selection of meats and fish, stuffed mushroom appetizer very good as well. Atmosphere was great, and tables were not stacked on top of each other like so many 'upscale' restaurants do. Very friendly and accomodating staff. My wife's only complaint was the lack of alternatives to potato (rice, orzo, etc) in many of the dishes. Worked for me but I love potato!"

  • "The minute you walk in you feel like your at a close friends house, it has a charm,a warmth and a cozy feel. It is fine dinning in a very relaxed atmosphere. I had the lamb sausage. Wonderful! it was done in a red sauce over pasta and vegetables. My sister had the baked stuffed haddock. Also wonderful. the fish was cooked to perfection! The staff was great. The menu had a good variety to choose from and the prices where in the mid $20.00 range. To top the night off we went up stairs for the comedy show. A great and reasonable night to entertain family and friends. Don't miss it!"

  • "Disappointed that after we had made a reservation, that they had run out of prime rib. When there is a selection put on the menu for a special occasion, such as Valentine's day, there is no need of running out of that item."

  • "All was fine until 3 or 4 mom's showed up with 6 children. Seemed more like 20! Real noisy unbehaved brats running all over the place! Wait staff was helpless to gain any control and the "mom's" we're of no help whatsoever, in fact, they were the problem! Way too loud to even have any normal conversations at our table which was way on the other side of the room. Made for a dissapointing evening at an establishment where we have had many great experiences before. Not their fault at all. They tried to situate that group away from everyone to no avail. Food and service were excellent. Just too bad about inconsiderate people which seem to be multiplying far too rapidly in my opinion. They're inconsiderate to the point of not even knowing it."

  • "I picked this restaurant, sight unseen, for a birthday dinner for my husband. We were headed to Maine for the weekend and I took a shot because they were having a band there that evening. When we walked in there was a blazing fire and a wonderful piano and sax player playing dinner music. There was also a huge fishtank in the middle of the dining room.It was a very warm and inviting atmosphere. Our waitresses,Sara and Jen, were personable and very helpful. Honestly, they were a very good coupling. One had a bit of a bubbly personality and one was a bit more dry; both were helpful and wonderful to work with. They put a candle in my husband's dessert and had the sax player play Happy Birthday! First time that ever happened to him! Very memorable."

  • "Loved the concert venue. Small, great acoustics, good music. Restaurant was pleasant but a bit noisy. Service was very good- polite and prompt. Food was overpriced - no outstanding flavors or memorable dishes. We had rib eye dinner and Maine seafood pasta. Rib eye was well cooked but not outstanding. Pasta dish was mostly pasta and bland. Seafood chowder tasted of Worcestershire sauce."

  • "This was just the right choice for a special dinner! The service was impeccable. The ambiance set the mood for a relaxing dining experience to suit even the most discerning "foodie" and the food was amazing! Clearly the owners, the chef and all the employees share the same vision of providing a welcoming, sensory experience for their guests. We were there in August and enjoyed a variety of summer specialties. We even had a tour of the garden after our meal. Kudos to the chef for the unique menu items and the exquisite presentation. The next time we are in the area, we will certainly be back and we will recommend Jonathan's to our friends who will be traveling in the area."

  • "The food and service were both excellent. The ambiance for my wife's birthday was fitting."

  • "Lamb Pot Pie delicious. Lobster/shrimp perfect inSeafood Pasta; cherrystone clams dry/chewy like jerky. Our terrific waiter dispatched to other area during meal & bartender took over. Bartender was attentive & provided timely service, but no offer for overcooked clams. Should have replaced with properly cooked clams, substitution with lobster or shrimp, or small discount on bill. 2nd dinner: onion soup & jaeger schnitzel. Soup very flavorful, right amount of cheese. Pork schnitzel uniformly sliced, very tender, but a bit scorched. Sides well cooked & appropriately sized. Will dine here again. Much good here with potential for excellence. Kitchen needs to pay bit more attention. Wait staff needs to react proactively to correct mishaps."

  • "I really enjoyed the vegetarian eggplant dish, a pleasant variety of textures and flavors. My wife loved the chowder and mushrooms and wouldn't stop taking my gnocci!"

  • "Jonathan's did an excellent job with serving a nice dinner in combination with a musical performance in their upstairs cabaret. The salads were excellent. My vegetarian dinner of eggplant, spinach and gnocchi was fabulous, though my wife's chicken piccata was just OK. The staff was well organized using tickets, dinner coupons and coupons good for drinks upstairs. We would certainly return herefor another dinner and performance"

  • "We went specifically to have dinner and see Marc Cohn’s performance after. The atmosphere was pleasant and a new coating of snow outside the well lit windows added greatly to that. The service was prompt and friendly and the gluten free menu was a welcome addition however it was mostly restricted to beef offerings and needs to be diversified. Our meals were nice but not exceptional and a little pricy for the offering. The show after was in an intimate setting upstairs and the closeness of the performers made it feel very personal. The room was understandably full and moving around was slow but not impossible. The biggest drawback to the show room was the folding wooden chairs were very uncomfortable."

  • "We booked Jonanthan's to have Thanksgiving Dinner with our parents. Booking via Open Table was easy. When we arrived there we waited about 30 minutes for our table (booked 2 months out). We all ordered some appetizers, they brought some bread and we had to ask for more butter a couple of times since there were 2 pieces for a party of 5. They also served this little dish of a slice of cranberry sauce (jellied), a couple of pickles, a couple of olives as well as pickled onions...for 5 people. It was a bit embarrassing and I was shocked they served this. We all god the traditional turkey meal which was okay - not amazing. Dessert was good but they had run out of basics like apple pie, pecan pie and pumpkin pie (for a 4:30pm reservation)."

  • "Very accommodating! Seated us near the glowing wood fire at our request on a cool, dreary, rainy Maine night. Lobster was excellent! Chef provided a complimentary appetizer; we weren't that hungry but it was a smoked salmon and haddock fish cake that was excellent."

  • "My wife and I have lived in the Seacoast area for 20 years. We had known about Jonathan's but had never tried it because it was a bit out of the way (We live in Hampton NH, about 30 miles away). The truth is, is that we were attracted by the prime rib special on last Thursday night. How bad could it be for $8.95? It was Great! Far better than our expectations ! Presentation a 10 out of 10 Taste a 10 out of 10 Service a 10 out 10 A Prime Rib dinner for the price of a decent 'burger? We'll be back to try other meals, and we'll bring friends with us."
