A word from Jonathan's Bar and Grille
Jonathan’s Bar & Grille is a sophisticated and vibrant American restaurant conveniently located on Needham Street in Newton. Jonathan Glick, a Newton native, created this comfortable yet fashionable setting with a contemporary American menu and energetic bar scene. Jonathan’s is a Back Bay style restaurant…without the hassle of going into the city. The food is of the highest quality, but at a reasonable price point – a rarity these days. We will be serving lunch, dinner, and late night menus, as well as hosting a live jazz brunch on Sundays. There is a 138 car parking garage available, as well as an uncovered parking lot. Come and experience what a sophisticated neighborhood restaurant should be.

Hadn't been in a year, and what a surprise! he menu had something for everyone, and can't beat $5.99 chicken and beef burgers on Monday nights! Portions were very generous, service was terrific, and we can't wait for Monday to roll around again!!

We made a reservation on OpenTable for brunch at 11:30. When we arrived, the doors were locked and no one was visible in the restaurant. After, wondering if they were out of business, a person came to the door and said they no longer serve brunch and they won't open until 12;00. We came back at noon and had a simple lunch.

My only "complaint" was that my Mai Tai was too strong! As I was the driver, I was unable to enjoy much of it, which I regretted, as it was delicious. Otherwise, everything was great.

I pride myself in finding the best of the best metro boston food finds fit for foodies like myself. I was referred by a friend who spoke highly of the place so I was in the area and decided to go in. The interiot had a sophisticated feel with a contemporary design which I liked a lot. Now the menu is not expansive but there is plenty to suit every palate. I have been here 4 times in the last month so that alone can give you a solid idea about the place. Daphne is a gem and an asset to Jonathan's she knows the menu and can pair every dish with a fantastic wine selection. In addition she is extremely personable and makes you feel like you as are her only guestd even when you know your not!

Jonathans is a happy, fun, and delicious place. We love the menu that offers big portion dinners or lighter sandwiches and great original healthy salads. Tonight the place was buzzing. We met up with lots of old friends. Had salads and martinis. It was a blast.

Nice presentation of the entrees and good quality ingredients. Service was very good except that they started to vacuum the floor near us at 8:45 p.m. in the middle of our dinner! Ambiance is quite sterile. Perhaps appears different when filled with customers.

We come here often because the food is always great. The staff goes out of their way to make sure we are happy. We had the outstanding onion soup filled with delicious melted cheese. I had the double cut pork chop and my husband had the filet steak. Both were cooked perfect and juicy. Lovely place. Busy but not to busy to take good care of us.

We tried a few different things: onion soup ( good), onion rings ( greasy and good), pasta with bologneses ( ok), sliders ( mediocre- small meat and not so tasty lobster meat and lots of bread) and banana cream pie ( not a pie at all but a pudding like thing with a banana cut up on the side). Would be a good bar place but a bit pricey ( 12 for hamburgers, 13 for slides assorted,) Really great service. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

  • Jonathan's (not) for Brunch
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013
    Dined on 3/17/2013
There were very few diners at Jonathan's for the Sunday brunch, so that I assumed that the service would be excellent. It was difficult to get the waitress's attention on 2 occasions, and the service was not great. As for the food: one of our diners had scrambled eggs which were fine. However, the "hash brown potatoes{?}" were pitifully greasy. I had eggs benedict, which probably would have been OK if the English muffin had a bit of crispness instead of sogginess; and if the hollandaise sauce appeared fresh, with a taste of lemon - neither was so. Here again, I tried to find a bite of potato which was not greasy - an impossible task. In addition, the 3 greasy ones that I did consume felt as though they were heavy for the day.

We had an early reservation on a Sunday evening. Not too crowded. The beet salad with added shrimp was very good. My partner had salmon over rice and veggies. Maybe thanks to the early hour and few other patrons, service was excellent. Meals were solidly good, but not memorable.

Fine, but not spectacular dining in a cool (i.e., decoration) and cold (need to work on insulation for cold nights) room. Staff was attentive, although amateur. Probably best as a place to grab a drink and eat at the bar. Beer list controlled by InBev, so all you'll see is the kind of premium beers you would get at an airport. Food was decent and (thankfully) not overly ambitious. Larger portions and lower prices than in town.

We had a great dinner wednesday night. There were two large parties having a ball yet the service was ecxellent. The tomato soup was a great start for a cold night. We had the salmon which was a large portion of a perfectly cooked piece of fish, juicy and great flavor. We left feeling full and looking forward to returning again.
