JoLeFood and wineWe went to Jole on the last night of our honeymoon, we were staying in the hotel in which it's located. We had the four course tasting with wine pairings and it was great. We got to choose which plates we wanted to have which was a nice change from the typical "unknown" tasting selection. Being from DC we're used to pretty great food and this was right up there with some if our best meals. It's fun, romantic and allows us to really get into the food were eating. JoLe was a perfect place for us to enjoy, explore and eat. Each dish had the right amount of flare and sauces to offset, compliment and highlight the flavor of the main ingredient. We chose to Kompachi with uni and olive tapenade, Snapper with chilled mussels and the sweetbreads and some veggies to share. The waiter made great recommendations and did not rush us. Jole has a very relaxed but hip atmosphere with wonderful background music. It cost us a little more but we knew it would be well worth it. We've been to JoLe several times and have never been disappointed. You really have to spread out 5 glasses of wine. As a couple, we each picked 5 items & their paired wine, so tasted 10 different wonderful flavors.
Really is an exciting way to experience new & interesting wines& food. Bacon wrapped veal sweet bread or Rabbit Loin or grilled Quail or grilled Octopus, several bits & sips of each to prepair the diner for dinner. Each matched with wine to accent smooth round of finish. aroma of the dish when it hits the table, nose the wine, small sip. Silverware the dish to prepair the fork with each ingredient for a mouthful. Savor the food, chew lightly. They allowed us to pick the six courses and we even picked different ones between us, no problem! They were also flexible on the wine pairings, they brought out a chardonnay, a varietal neither of us care for in the States, and they were more than happy to provide a very good substitution. The food was excellent, perfectly executed, and that was only matched by the service which was outstanding. Our server, Jamie?, was phenomenal, and all of the staff really took pride in their restaurant. Received H2o but were then left unattended for about fifteen minutes. I had brought a bottle of wine and it was clearly on the table. We could see staff moving about, passing us by but none came to us. I finally got up and went to the bar to get the wine opened and poured, at which time we received immediate attention. Josh was our waiter and the manner in which he conducted himself made the wrong right. I later found out He did not start until 6:00, he had great suggestions and made the five course tasting a success. The food here is fantastic and the staff are excellent too, very helpful and knowledgeable. We ate at JoLe to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the staff made our experience extra special. Our server, James, helped us decide on the tasting menu with the paired wine menu and it turned out to be an excellent choice. We sampled so many delicious dishes and the wine was paired perfectly. Heirloom carrot Salad, Burmese Red Chili Octopus, Striped Sea Bass and Roasted Quail were my choices. Often small plates are larger than they should be with sauces that over power the dishes. The kitchen was a bit backed up, but their customer service minded wait staff provided an explaination and a complimentary refill on our wine as we waited. We were there twice in one week and both meals were off the chart for taste, variety and presentation--and we are Pescatarian!!
