A word from JoJo
JoJo offers relaxed yet elegant dining on two floors of a quaint, turn-of-the-century brownstone on the Upper East Side. The first of Jean-Georges’ restaurants in New York City, this neighborhood gem opened in 1991 to rave reviews. It was voted best new restaurant of the year by Esquire magazine and has retained its three-star status from the New York Times for 21 years. Regarding the name, JoJo was Chef Jean-Georges’ nickname as a young boy. Jojo is a hospitable setting for a casual dinner, special occasion, or private party. Guests can feel comfortable in jeans or in evening attire. The contemporary French menu still features some well-loved original dishes, including the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake.Continued

  • "JoJo is fine place for a few civilized folk to enjoy a break in the day - or for that matter to spend a cozy evening. I paticuay like the three tables in the front upstairs where the is lots of light."

  • "We went to this restaurant because it's 10 mints walking distance from where we live. Overall it's great. The food is fantastic, and service is top notch. I love the warm bread, too."

  • "the menu changes seasonally --- I loved it the last two times I was here but this time I thought I was ordering the same thing (crab cakes etc) but they were different (and I only realized once they arrived) --- they were still good but not as good as my original experiences."

  • "been to jojo's a few years ago and had a memorable meal. my recent visit was less memorable. but still good. the service was perfect. the meal was ok. not great. but the noise level was wonderfully quiet - a luxury not often allowed in ny restaurants on a saturday nite."

  • "Went for brunch on sunday with my mom, sister, and a friend. As always, the food was superb, the staff attentive but never instrusive, and ambiance refined and relaxed. I love jojos. My only surprise was that there were so few others in the restaurant. They usually have a bustling brunch service but today we nearly had the place to ourselves. Cannot recommend it highly enough. One of my favorite brunch spots in the neighborhood"

  • "Very good food. Cramped space... but expected in this location. Looks old and stuffy and getting shabby. Needs sprucing up."

  • "Still going strong after many years, Vongerichten's quiet cozy outpost on E. 64th Street continues to hit the mark. Food is perfectly prepared, the staff is attentive and professional. Not a scene at all. If you want to have an elegant if not ultra-fancy dinner in comfortable surroundings, have a conversation and hear your dinner companions this is a great choice. Wines are well selected. Prices are not inexpensive but what do you expect?"

  • "A very enjoyable sunday evening at Jojo's. Great service and ambience. Good food but not great. A tad overpriced, especially for the mains. The sour mash coctail with angostura bitters knocked my socks off!"

  • "It was a little difficult to find the entrance but JoJo was very nice. We had one spring menu, which had lobster risotto and lamb chop as main and chocolate cake as dessert and added one entree of duck breast. The food was amazing and the ambience was romantic. I had a great time here."

  • "Terrible all around. Computers broken, waiter was incoherent and rude. The food was so-so, jg is better than this."

  • "Work nearby & went for 3 gal celebratory lunch. The pre-fixe is amazing - lots of great choices & so very tasty. It really is a gem of a spot for a civilized, no rush, delightful meal. Cannot wait to go back. Thank you, JoJo"

  • "The menu is small but varied, hamburgers to Duck! No heavy sauces like the traditional french food I know, but what is served is packed with flavor. The service was perfect we were offered advice about the menu while staying polite and diligent. Happy to have dined at Jo-Jo and will keep it on the list to visit again!"

  • "This was our 1st Jean Georges restaurant & was not impressed. Our appetizers were fine, nothing to be thrilled by. My main course, the lamb chops, came out cold. I took a bite and it was very cold. First time I had to send a meal back at a restaurant. The waiter did not automatically say he'd take my husbands back to keep warm so I had to tell him to. What's the point of going out to eat if my husband would be eating without me?! We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and I would have thought it be proper that the waiter bring us complimentary drinks or deduct from our bill for the inconvenience of being served cold food. He did not. We've been to many upscale restaurants and this was a disappointment. We won't be back."

  • "There are too many table not enough room for people eating. I had ordered Veal and it is too dry no juice inside the meat."
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "It was our first experience at JoJo's and we were seat in the front "nobodies" section where they put people they don't know or who don't know enough to ask for in the back section or upstairs. So, we're at a tiny table not big enough for the plates backed up against the divider curtains. The menu was interesting enough but I can't comment on ambiance or anything else because we didn't experience anything other than being stuffed in a corner. Will we be back? Maybe since I know to ask for a better table. But, for this visit, we definitely spent less than we spend anywhere for dinner. Had only the JoJo burger and it was just OK."

  • "The experience at JoJo is always a time we enjoy from the food to the service and the feeling of being in a French bistro. We look forward to going again."

  • "Been to JoJo three times. The for first two were much better. Sorry to say, won't be going back. The space is beautiful and romantic but the food was less than spectacular."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "When making a reservation; there is a huge difference between the front room and the back room. Tables are close together, so your dining experience can depend on who you are next to in the back room. The food is exceptional."

  • "it was an amazing experience in here. the food was good, server was good"

  • "Food is very common, no personality. And the tables are so close to each other. We had a big party next to ours, and I couldn't hear what my friend asking me. The only reason I go to that place is for their tasting size glass wine, which is reasonable and unique."

  • "Overall, I would say place is about 3.5 star. Food was okay but nothing special and restaurant week menu for dinner was little disappointing. I had chicken and it wasn't dry but it was somewhat lacking in flavor and my wife's hake was similar. The service was excellent two thumbs up for service."

  • "JoJo consistently satisfies even during Restuarant Week! Congenial service and great food make for an enjoyable winter's weeknight evening. While it's been around for some time, it is a "keeper!""

  • "I had high hopes for this place as it is one of Jean George's restaurants. The decor inside was nice and very romantic. Butternut squash soup was very done as that was the recommended dish to start with. I had the sea bass which was a little fishy to be honest and I had to drench it in sauce in order for the taste to be hidden. We sat next to a large party which as really loud which somewhat ruined our evening."

  • "I dine at Jojo approximately once a year and always come away with mixed feelings. The decor is lovely, the service is solid, the food is always disappointing. The server encouraged me to order the signature chicken dish. It was not terrible but not worth finishing, The chick pea fries that accompanied the chicken were bland and dry, I had one bite. Over the years, I have ordered the salmon, the tenderloin and the pork which I would rate as average as well. If there was one home run entree at Jojo, I would eat here biweekly as it is in my neighborhood and has such a warm and inviting atmosphere."

  • "Quite a cute little red building, 2 floors in it. Tables are close but acceptable. It is a simple menu for restaurant week, not much to select from. However food is indeed impressive. I love the mushroom soup much, flavor, texture, golden color, especially the pepper in it. Dessert is common. Overall it is not expensive a place. The quality of food here is actually very good. I enjoyed a lunch with one of my friends."

  • "Went during restaurant week with that goal in mind, ended up ordering from their pre fixe lunch menu $28 for 3 courses & way more options. All very delicious, good portions. Fresh ingredients. Loved the cucumber mint martini. Very quaint, mature atmosphere. In a brownstone, so it's cozy & personal. Subtle French decor, def recommend."

  • "I have been to JoJo recently and it was great but during restaurant week I guess it was just too busy to be able to accomodate timely. The service was slow but polite. The restaurant week menu was also just a little limited and inexpensive like they were trying to cut corners to cover the price. In all a good choice but not during restaurant week ."

  • "Service, very good. Food, outstanding. Ambience, left nothing to desire. Upper East Side gem. However, all stemware and plates were dirty; we could feel the texture of dishwasher remnants on the outside of wine glasses, dinner plates, etc. Either way, it was a lovely evening."

  • "JoJo will always have great food, they are very consistent and the parmesan crusted chicken was sensational. On the other hand, it took more than two hours for a 3-course meal."

  • "I'm not often in the E. 60's. So, I did not know of Jo Jo. What I missed!! I loved the ambiance of this east side brownstone. It was furnished such that you felt you were in someone's home. And do I need to say how wonderful Jean George's food is? We chose the prie-fixe lunch and enjoyed every bite. The service was superb; perfectly timed. I had asked, as a special request, to have the table shown in the picture on the website. And lo and behold, that's the table I got. I plan to go out of my way to get up to the east 60's more often to eat there again."

  • "Having been to several other restaurants of Jean George, I was surprised by this one. Very small rooms means little noise which I appreciated, but also very small tables. The lobster and lemon risotto was outstanding. Service was exceptional and attention to my elderly mother very much appreciated."

  • "So glad I discovered Jo Jo. I'm a huge Jean George fan and he never disappoints! The food and service was outstanding!"

  • "Jojo was such a pleasant dining experience. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. The food was delicious and the decor was elegant but cozy. My only disappointment was the restaurant week menu was rather small- only two choice of each course. Overall a place I'd go back to again for an intimate dinner."

  • "Had a great time here. Came as a party of four. The tables they put were two small round tables so it was a bit awkward sitting. The bread they gave us was like a small baguettes, delicious! And we asked for more and they obliged. For starter I had the fluke crudo- it was pretty mild and might have brightened up with more citrus or acids in it. For the entree I had the salmon in citrus with parsnip purée. The fish was well cooked the sauce delicious and the parsnip purée I could eat a whole gallon it was that good. For dessert u had the profiteroles- nutty and chocholaty.. Yum. Service was attentive and friendly and no complaints when the check had to be split into four. Everyone had a great time here."
