A word from JoJo
JoJo offers relaxed yet elegant dining on two floors of a quaint, turn-of-the-century brownstone on the Upper East Side. The first of Jean-Georges’ restaurants in New York City, this neighborhood gem opened in 1991 to rave reviews. It was voted best new restaurant of the year by Esquire magazine and has retained its three-star status from the New York Times for 21 years. Regarding the name, JoJo was Chef Jean-Georges’ nickname as a young boy. Jojo is a hospitable setting for a casual dinner, special occasion, or private party. Guests can feel comfortable in jeans or in evening attire. The contemporary French menu still features some well-loved original dishes, including the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant charges quite a lot for very average food. My friend and I had dinner here and it was almost completely empty. It was early but still.. The ambiance is as unimpressive as the food. Can't complain about the service. But there are so many good restaurants in NY- this one is not worth the time."

  • "We needed to eat early to make a curtain, two out of four were disabled, everyone was accommodated and both food and wine--a lovely Gewurtztraminer from Alsace--was perfect for all. We've been coming back to JoJo's for many years, and this evening provided all the evidence why."

  • "Went for a date with my girlfriend. Food was nothing short of amazing. Started with the bread, reminiscent of a baguette in paris. Then on to the Sweet Pea soup served out of a tea pot. Delicious and wish that I had a whole tourine of it! Then the tuna app. Perfect. She had duck, and I had lobster. The duck was presented so perfectly, and the puff pastry with the fois gras had the perfect crisp and there was just enough sauce left over for it. The lobster was A-MAZE-ING! Perfect portion. The fingerling potatoes were cooked perfectly, but the roasted corn, thank you for putting so much, it set the lobster off. It was like popcorn at the movies. I cant wait to go back. Im salivating as I re-read this!"

  • "We eat out here every time we're in New York- the quality of the food is completely reliable, the menu updates and is always seasonal, and the experience of the charming brownstone and friendly professional service is always fun. And the chocolate lava cake of course."

  • " Jean George's first restaurant is still a favorite of ours. Pumpkin soup and then chicken for me, risotto of some kind for Dale. All desserts are yum. Staff is terrific. It was quiet last night and we got into a discussion about Shakespeare offerings in NY with our server who was really knowledgeable. I know this sounds unprofessional but it really wasn't."

  • "We made reservations for 11:00pm. When we arrived, the hostess made a bad humored face, as if she wasn't expecting us, and said we should order soon because their kitchen was about do close. We ordered the Summer Menu, which was divine, but everything, from appetizers to coffee, was served in a hurry, in less than 45 minutes. It was not a pleasant experience. I would not recomend."

  • "I went to JoJo's by myself as I was visiting from out of town. It is a charming restaurant and the food was outstanding. I had the halibut with steamed vegetables. It was piping hot and the garlic lemon butter sauce was truly delicious. I had the blueberry crumble for dessert and practically licked my plate. The service was excellent, attentive, prompt, courteous, but unobtrusive. I loved this restaurant!"

  • "Great spot for that special occasion, as my wife and I celebrated our 24th anniversary. Courses were top shelf, as all our dishes were very good. Quaint, french style interior, comfy. Good job JoJo!"

  • "Perfect Townhouse feel. The food was good but nothing extraordinary. The service was lovely as was the presentation. Took my teenage daughters for graduation lunch."

  • "Food was good; not excellent. Had the chicken (a dish they have been serving since opening). Very good and plenty of it. Went early and was disapointed to be seated at a very small table in the middle. There was plenty of better seating options available. An elderly couple left because they were not comfortable with the seating (the gentleman was using a walker). The smallest bathroom I have ever used."

  • "Looking for a romantic and comfortable place to dine before a show at the Armory, Jojo offered just that and more. The dining experience was well handled from the moment of walking in, to the well guided and handled flow of time."

  • "This was a late night find after a summerstage concert in Central Park, and well worth the slightly more expensive menu. Food was excellent and service was quick and professional if a bit impersonal."

  • "We were seated downstairs in a cramped table across from three business men who were loud throughout our meal...both factors made what could have been a fine evening celebrating my wife's 75tth birthday, a poor evening..locals seemed to get upstairs preference...Open Table folks were seated below"

  • "We attended a concert in the area and found JoJo able to make us a reservation following. This was our first visit to JoJo and we were pleased with excellent service and food that was distinctive, delicious and handsomely presented at an hour when the place was quiet enough for good conversation- the way we like it. Will return. Thank you."

  • "We had high expectations for Jojo and were very disappointed. We arrived on time for our reservations yet had to wait in a crowded entrance. Our dishes were all mediocre, one of our parties' dishes was barely warm on arrival. We were a lll disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "I went to Jojo last month and I just loved it. The staff is so polite and friendly, the ambience is elegante and the good is perfect! I went to many others reaturants in New York, but this was the best in general. I will definitely come back and recommend this restaurant. The word that defines this restaurant is: impecable!"

  • "the food was excellent, loved the variety and composition of the menu, the service was not in line with the rating of the restaurant the food at the restaurant was excellent, unfortunately the restaurant has several seating areas, we where first offered a table at the lower level and it was impossible to even hear your partner speak, unimaginable for such an exclusive and very expensive place, we fortunately where offered a table upstairs after complaining that booking with open table would give us a place where you could have a private conversation."

  • "I haven't had the chance to try Jean-Jorges restaurants before, and this was my first experience. It was a satisfying one. Members of my party all decided to try the lunch pre-fixe for $28. This is a great deal and gives you ability to sample courses. The portion sizes were perfect, vegetables served were in season and fish melted in my mouth. Sit upstairs as it is a brighter room and more quiet. Dining rooms are elegant yet relaxed. Wait service was excellent, although waiter wasn't overly friendly yet professional. I would certainly recommend to try if you are in the area."

  • "The wait staff was attentive and personable. The dining experience was great and I enjoyed all 3 courses plus our wine/cocktails. Had been here previously years ago and was glad to see it has maintained its standard."

  • "O restaurante é muito charmoso e tem um clima real de bistrô parisiense. A comida é deliciosa.

  • "Everything at Jojo is impeccable. The food is so fresh and well done. The service is outstanding and the atmosphere is beautiful, comfortable, elegant and yet homey. It's everything you would expect from a Jean-Georges restaurant. Love this place."

  • "Dining here was a memorable experience. Our meals were highly creative but never came near the silliness so many chefs are embracing today. The ingredients were stunningly fresh and the preparation perfect. Service was outstanding. Outstanding."

  • "I loved Jojo as soon as I walked in. It's pretty without being fussy, special without being stuffy or formal. Our waiter was lovely, friendly but not hovering. The food was excellent. I admit that I was at first disappointed by the two selections for the prix fixe dessert, zucchini cake or molten lava cake. I really feel that Molten Lava has been done to death, but not being in the mood for zucchini, I chose it anyway. I am so glad I did! This particular Molten Lava cake is what the fuss is all about! Great lunch, added to my list of favorite restaurants."

  • "We were a little skeptical based on first impressions. Old tired little tables outside the restaurant and a dark dingy entrance. Inside the decor is nice but a little tired. We stayed and were glad we did. Excellent food - well presented and top notch in a quiet atmosphere that left a good lasting impression."

  • "We had lamb and duck and they were so delicious. The dessert, warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream is a must, and we have discovered another surprise, I think it's the "PASSION PAVLOVA with whipped cream, passion seeds" (from the website), we loved it! Thank you, JoJo!"

  • "Live in UK and went to NY for a 4 night stay. Meal was to be a birthday celebration. Was very disappointed with the food which was main reason for going to Jo Jo . Loved the room - service was Ok. I had veal in bread crumbs - 2 slices in bread crumbs on some lettuce leaves - nothing special. Presentation and meal itself not up to Michelin Star in UK !!!!!!!asked about Michelin Stars and was told in was American Michelin stars 4 or 5 ?????????? Restaurant knew it was birthday and did put an iced chocolate sign on our dessert. Thanks. Loved the room décor -sort of old French style in New York ????"

  • "The green pea soup, morel ravioli, and zucchini cake were all excellent. The combination of butter and balsamic vinegar in the ravioli was unusual and worked well. The restaurant is vegetarian friendly, but be sure to call ahead in case you want to order one of the vegetarian appetizers as an entree-sized portion."

  • "Time has enhanced rather than diminished the greatness of this restaurant. The food is delicious, the service excellent, and the ambience superb. Best prix fixe lunch in New York"

  • "This is a nice restaurant in a nice neighborhood and quiet. Some prior visits but this was our first visit for a number of years and was quite disappointing. The food is good and the atmosphere is romantic and quiet but my wife ordered a Veal dish and the server came back and verified it while we were having our appetizer but when the meals came she was given the Chicken. Not sure how they could screw that up as they were not that busy. They didn't charge for the desert we ordered but that doesn't mean much for a restaurant that is somewhat pricey, upper class and this was a special night. We also felt that it is pretty "tired" inside and could use a good re-do. In NYC there are a lot better restaurants [try Brassiere 8 1/2] a great place. "
