  • "This was my first time visiting this restaurant. My bf was coming into town and I needed to find a nice romantic restaurant with live music. According to yelp, this was one of the best restaurants in dc. I loved the food and my bf loved his. We both ordered pasta but his portion was very small. His pasta was about half of what I had and both dishes were about the same amount. I wanted to ask why the dish was so small but he encouraged me not to. Other than that, the service was good. The live music was great. My bf really enjoyed the live music. We were seated on the ground level and it was a small space so I think next time I go, I will definitely go upstairs. Overall, it was a very quiet, romantic, and intimate date night."

  • "I went to JoJo's for a first date. I had the Cajun Pasta. It was good not great however menu selections are superb. My date had the lamb, garlic potatoes and spinach. They have a strong wine selection and their cocktails and sparkling champagne are great. I was there when Kaleidoscope band was playing, they are really good and set a fun and energetic tone."

  • "The food is good and the live music on Friday nights at 10:30 PM is great"

  • "We had reservations for 6:30 on a Friday night and were greeted with a smile. There was an excellent jazz band playing in the bar area which we could hear perfectly from our cozy corner table upstairs. The waiter was a sweetheart, the rolls were warm and the food was homey. I had the chicken with mushroom sauce, very yummy. My partner has the snapper with shrimp which was very good except for the salty jus on the plate, but he just ignored it and said the rest was really good. i would go back when in the neighborhood."

  • "My wife and I were looking for a new experience in the "U" Renaissance. We had planned for Blues Alley, but missed tickets and decided to explore JoJo for a dinner and music. Very unassuming and easily missed.but we got lucky with parking and hopped in. There was a large group already enjoying a party and it felt more like a house party before we were seated. However the live music was great and I was surprised to get served an outstanding shrimp fettuccine. Very romantic environment with a lot of couple quietly dancing and enjoying the ambience. Very nice way to start off an evening with a decent menu and well prepared appetizers and meals."

  • "I found JoJo's through a general search on Open Table. The restaurant has an Caribbean theme (?) and the cocktail menu follows suit with a number of rum-based drinks. I had a Voodoo Juice, which was a little too sweet, but good nonetheless. I highly recommend the blue cheese steak, served with great mixed vegetables and decent mashed potatoes."

  • "My son plays the trumpet and we all love live music, especially jazz. My son and I had dinner together here after looking at colleges and had a wonderful dinner. The wings were delicious. We really enjoyed the music and had a great time. This place is a gem - make the time to eat here!!"

  • "Awesome food and music experience. My 12 year old son and I ate here on a Thursday night and enjoyed the great live jazz, lobster ravioli and a perfectly cooked hanger steak. Great friendly service. Cool cool place. An experience we won't forget."

  • "Overall good experience. But on Friday nights, JoJo is VERY CROWDED. Make sure you are ON TIME or reservation will be canceled. Service needs to be improved. Great live music."

  • "This restaurant had a live Jazz band. The ambience is perfect for a romantic date or to hear some great music."

  • "FOOD WAS AMAZING!!! Space was kinda tight, but if u dont mind interacting with strangers, while having a good time, this place is perfect!! food is to die for. Very flavorful, portions kinda small. Reservation was honored even though place was jammed packed. Only had to wait about 10 minute. A MUST every time im in DC!!!"

  • "JoJo's was recommended by a long time DC resident. I can't thank her enough! Great location, food, live music and service."

  • "It was just perfect! The food was amazing, the music was lovely, and the service was great! I can not wait to bring all of my friends and recommend this restaraunt to all! Also, reserving a table was very easy and effective."

  • "Downstairs, where the band plays there's no way you can have a conversation with your companion. Upstairs is nice, you can clearly hear the band and the food is EXCELLENT. The place is cramped and service can be slow. But ill go again, definitely!"

  • "I did not dine therefore I cannot rate the food. I went from 10:00PM to 2:00AM for the live R&B band. It was loud, fun, entertaining and everything that I expected in that regard. The band that night was great. The crowd was equally as excited and energetic. This is a great spot for late night, loud music, grooving for music lovers. My only negative comment is about reservations. If someone calls to make a reservation for 10PM, it is clearly to hear and see the band. When I arrived I was told that my table was upstairs. They eventually moved me downstairs when a table opened. I suggest asking over the phone what the reservation is for, music o r dining and do a seating chart based on that."

  • "I come to Jojo all the time so it was the perfect meeting spot for some old friends to meet up that I had not seen in awhile. Neither of my friends had been there before and one lives in the neighborhood. It was nice to sit upstairs for a change and sit against the back wall and window. We had a blast! Our server was amazing and the food was on point as usual. Ill be back within a couple weeks I'm sure."

  • "Excellent service, accommodating to my gluten allergy, food was amazing, band was great, the place is small and you need reservations but it's cozy and romantic and the ambiance is warm and inviting. Will go back again soon!"

  • "I took my fiancé here to celebrate his 30th birthday and he loved it. His lamb chops were excellent and my flank steak was cooked to perfection. The rum punch is also delicious. The singer, Colie Williams, provided wonderful entertainment. The only disappointment was that JoJo's is tiny and I had specifically requested a well-located table since this was a special celebration, yet we were instead squeezed into an awkward spot where my chair was constantly bounced by patrons and staff."

  • "JoJo's is a hole in the wall spot that makes your senses awaken to the possibilities. And we all know the possibilities are what make life worth living for. So, when I'm in the city to chill, JoJo is my primary destination."

  • "I do not live in the DC area however because I had such a great experience the 1st two times I visited jojos it's a must I visit when I'm in town. Great music and food. However this last experience was a little off due to the fact that we were so close to our neighbors that we were basically sharing a table. We had to turn our table a different way and ask for another chair in order to have privacy. Our food/wine,service, and music experience was exceptionally well overall"

  • "Very good food, very positive and responsive service, and very good music. Noisy, but that's what I expected -- it's a bar/restaurant with live music! I've already recommended it to several friends!"

  • "Delicious food, cozy setting. Reservations are a must. Sat upstairs where music wasn't too loud."

  • "We live less than 2 minutes walk from the restaurant so there is no "special feel" but we keep on coming back! The food is always very good. My husband ordered red snapper with shrimp and I ordered crab cakes. They were both excellent. The server was nice and smily. The only reason why service is three stars is that she brought a wrong drink to my husband and then later on she forgot my second drink order. Not a huge deal but could be improved. Music starts at 8pm on the first floor. We like dining on the 2nd floor and listening to the music - this way we can't see the musicians but the volume of the sound is just right. (We can still converse - somewhat)."

  • "It was my second time there...I brought in a three friends before seeing a concert. We took advantage of Valentine's Day per-fix menu. Simply put, the food was awesome and the service was excellent. Recommend!!"

  • "I went there on a first date, and we arrived a few minutes late due to traffic. Although we didn't get a seat downstairs it turned out to be better. We were given a table upstairs next to the window, which proved to be the best spot in the house! It can get a lil loud for conversation downstairs, so upstairs was just right. We could feel the music perfectly and talk. We were expecting the advertised Brazilian Jazz, but it was more like regular Latin, which was a different vibe. We ordered a few drinks, and the service was very good. The food was excellent, and I recommend the blackened salmon. We actually ended up spending about 5 hours there and the environment, food, and service were all part of our long stay. I would definitely go back."

  • "We ended up at JoJo's simply because of a coupon we wanted to use and are SO glad we did! The food from beginning to end was REALLY good and we are picky eaters, so I mean what I say. We are really glad to know about this sweet venue close by where we know we can get a dependable meal."

  • "Delectable spot for live jazz. Excellent food but don't go too hungry, portions on the small side. Bar area gets congested when band starts to play but overall lovely evening."

  • "I visited Jo-Jos for a co-workers bday. I ended up being the coordinator (lord knows why), but we ended up having a great time. Making a reservation with open table was very fast and easy. We arrived during happy hour so the restaurant was not busy nor uncomfortable. We initially wanted a reservation for 15, although this place is very small and would not allow more than 10. The Happy Hour pricing was great, and I really enjoyed our server who was prompt and friendly. The live jazz music started alittle after 8 and was a perfect addition to our celebration. I would recommend Jo-Jos for a date night with someone special or for people who like live entertainment with not alot of noise and people. Hope this helps."

  • "tuesday night; friend's birthday. neighborhood hangout with live jazz; food delivered on SO MANY levels; taste, quality, portions, freshness, creativity, even price. with the LIVE jazz band, you can't enjoy your time or conversation and the music too; as a jazz bar, very cool. as a restaurant - GREAT but hard to do both. upstairs but not opened due to weekday and not filled which I get but since the kitchen was upstairs. would be GREAT place for weekends, food and vibe really good if you can sit upstairs and have the live music downstairs for the club folks to enjoy and those having dinner with great background music, great food and good conversation! I would have loved the option to eat upstairs, then go downstairs for cocktails and music"

  • "I made reservations via open table for 4;Upon arriving, hostess wanted to seat us downstairs at closest table to band; freezing cold on that basement level (other guests at tables still had on their down jackets, as did the hostess),jazz band was extremely loud for that very small space. I declined, asked to be seated upstairs; hostess informed me you have to reserve a table upstairs; I told her there is no request preference asked; I insisted to be seated out of the cold and the noise; asked to see the owner, who I never did see and was on site, she sat us upstairs and stated we could not stay long because she would need that table. Attitude very bad; wait staff nice but rushed us;food superb."

  • "I had a date last Saturday; and after doing a search for "live music DC", I came across Jo Jo's off of the U street Corridor. It had live music, perfect ambiance/lighting, eager to please/friendly staff and fantastic food. I will definitely be going there again!"

  • "My hubby and I sat on the first floor and it was nice and romantic - candlelight tables. It got hopping around 10pm when the old school band started. They were good. Prior to that, it was kaleidoscope jazz until 8:30pm. They were great as well. The hostess and server were nice and accommodating."

  • "My group was on the second floor, away from the music. We were still able to hear the music a little bit and carry on conversation with each other, so we liked being on the second floor. The food was delicious, our server was friendly and very helpful. The down-side to the restaurant is that it is tiny and can get very loud. Our table was near the bar upstairs and there were a lot of people standing around the bar, which meant they were standing/hovering right above our table. Most of these were people were fine, it was just awkward to have them standing so close to us. However, some of the people became obnoxiously loud and took some of the fun out of our relaxing dinner. Other than that, we really enjoyed the restaurant and would return."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to JoJo's to celebrate his birthday and we had a beautiful time. The musicians were engaging, talented and interactive. The service was good enough. The ambiance was dimly lit and romantic. I did take issue however, with how closely we were seated to the musicians. We had to yell our sweet nothing's across the table. The food was very tasty and the drinks potent. All in all, I would both recommend and revisit."
