We were lucky enough to be the second-to-last patrons to John's at their current location on Pearl Street in the small red house. We are sad that they will be moving their location, but look forward to MANY more meals with them at their new location. Really a must try-- and don't forget to ask for wine parings!!

New Years Eve at Johns was loveley. The staff was attentive but respectful, for a full house, the food was well done and beautifully presented. I would like to go back for a night when its a little slower with just my husband and more money for wine.

Restaurants today don't respond too often with reservations as well as caring about the customer and food quality. John's cared about every aspect of dining, from reservation flexibility to follow up notifications and excellent dining. Staff was friendly, courteous helpful caring and flexible. I could not believe how excellent they treated me as a customer. it's a nice and wonderful change from the usual dining. And the food was beyond expectations. Well presented and prepared to perfection for French food. I highly recommend John's to friends and family and strangers. Qualify as 5 stars.

We ate at John's for the first time on Saturday. It was my husband's birthday, so we opted for the tasting menu as a special treat. The tuna sashimi and mushroom rissoto were absolutely outstanding! Other courses were very good as well. Wine pairings went nicely with each course. This was not an inexpensive meal, but was worth it for a special occasion. Next time we go back (to their new location, in the Spring!) we'll order from the regular menu. From comments we heard around us, it sounded as if we may be ordering the lamb!

Overall very good - but inconsistent in some departments. Amazing first courses (mushrooms, foie gras) and second courses (salad) great as well. The strip steak was excellent, but the lobster tail fine. However, the dish was served with a potato puree, which is unpleasant - tastes as though it came out of a box! No problems with the curry scallops and tuna, the tuna a notable prize!

We were looking forward to going to John's as we have heard such great things! Unfortunately, there was a large party in the other room and our food was EXTREMELY delayed. There was no mention of the delay - just took forever! The waiter's service/attentiveness was good, just would have appreciated some mention of WHY it was taking so long! Once the food arrived - we really enjoyed the meal. Just too long of an evening...

My husband and I have lived in Boulder since the mid-90's and have always wondered about John's Restaurant. We finally went there this past weekend to celebrate his birthday and we were amazed at how delicious the food is. I've already told my friends and co-workers about it so I'm hoping they will get the chance to enjoy the restaurant as much as we did.

Simply one of the very (VERY!) best dining experiences in Boulder. Although the menu has become perhaps a little more restrained through the down-turn than in the past, all the items are in my opinion simply exquisite; the food is beautifully prepared and presented and beyond delicious. Although the restaurant is small (aka "cozy") it is not overly noisy and the ambiance is refined. My very good friend from LA was floored that The Wild West could support such refinement. Please keep it up. Thank you!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

The restaurant is cozy and welcoming - rustic wooden beams, subtle decor, amazingly hospitable (not snobby) staff. The attention to every minute detail is impressive. The only downside is that with lots of small rooms, it's a hit-or-miss on ambiance. You could have a quiet, secluded, and romantic dinner (first part of our experience), but if a batty woman with a shrill laugh and her slightly hard-of-hearing friends get seated in the same room, you're stuck with their conversation interrupting yours for the rest of the evening... The food is amazing. Not much to say - it's foodie heaven. Tastes and textures were exciting and perfectly-executed. Nothing here made me think "I could make this better." Another plus: the use of local ingredients

I made a reservation online during the first bite boulder event. It was really disappointing we had to wait for 30 minutes outside the dining room because they were not able to arrange the time properly. And we were not alone, there were several couples in front of us waiting. If the restaurant was not able to handle so many guests, simply disable reservation option for this time period after it's full, then we would look for other opportunities. Letting guests wait for half an hour is NOT a solution! Also after it was our turn, they did not ask if you reserved a table or not, then what is the point of making a reservation? After all, the food was great and catering was nice. So I give 4 stars overall.

We went to John's Restaurant on the last night of First Bite Boulder. We were seated at the exact time of our reservation and immediately were attended to by wait staff. All the wait staff could not have been nicer and were very pleasant. The gnocchi appetizer melted in my mouth as was wonderful. Also loved the pork belly entree and my husband was very pleased with his steak as well. The food was some of the best I've had in Boulder and the service was spot on -- it was a very nice evening.

Went for Boulder's restaurant week and the food was out of this world/fantastic. Here's the problem: Portion size. My wife and I ordered their "special" bottle of wine for $52 and of course the dinner itself for $52 but we had to order an additional dessert because we were still hungry. With tip dinner for two was over $150 and we still left hungry. So, the food was fantastic, but you'll need to fix the portion size before we'll ever go back.

We went for First Bite Boulder and were impressed that the service was consistent, warm and prompt. Although the restaurant was busy, we didn't feel at all rushed. We had dessert and coffee in addition to the three course menu. The quality of food was as good as we have come to expect from John's. The wine that were matched with our selections were excellent. Another all around wonderful meal! If you have never been to John's, you have to try it you don't know what you are missing.

The food was absolutely amazing and I have zero complaints about that. Our server, however, seemed irritated that we took time looking over the menu. She never smiled and was much more attentive to other tables. She removed beverage glasses without asking if we wanted a refill. Three times we were asked if we wanted bread and when we said yes, it never came. I have experience dining and working in fine dining restaurants and did not appreciate being treated in the same regard as if we were poor University students who intended on dining and ditching. The service did not match the amazing cuisine or my other experiences at John's.

Dessert was cherries with cream and chocolate fondue, meringues, wow. Just fantastic from start to finish. Service was the most attentive in Boulder, not a town where service is the focus.
