A word from Johnnys Kitchen and Tap
When you walk through the front door of Johnny’s Kitchen and Tap, you inhale the delicious aroma of chicken cooking in a wood-roasting rotisserie oven. Cozy, casual, and nicely outfitted, Johnny’s in business since 1995, has a large bar that separates two dining rooms and offers something for everyone. We have a party room that accommodates up to 70 people.

Johnny’s is well known for their wood-roasted chicken, rotisserie-roasted pork, baby back ribs and real mashed potatoes. The menu also features steak and chops, fresh fish, pastas, salads and sandwiches. Specials are offered daily and include such favorites as charbroiled fresh fish, Chicken al Forno and Shrimp Fontinella. Johnny’s spacious bar offers a full wine list, a wide selection of beers on tap and an extensive martini list. Don’t forget to save room for dessert-the fresh baked Apple Pie with French vanilla ice cream and caramel is a favorite!

Diner Reviews
  • "Highly recommend. Food is excellent, generous portions and prices very reasonable. Excellent service, I do recommend reservations!!"

  • "Consistent good food at moderate prices. Have not had a bad meal in 20 years. Although Johnny's is neither upscale, not "north shore" it is steady, and reliable and the menu caters to diverse tastes. The addition of music on Fri and Sat nights is a nice extra touch. Portions are never skimpy and some are huge."

  • "The head waiter and table servers were very helpful and welcoming. We had a handicapped person in our party and they went out of their way to seat him and help him up. Our waitress was friendly. The food was up to par. We dine here often and have our favorites. They are always delicious."

  • "The food was great and the service excellent. Our entire group of six left satisfied. The French onion soup was excellent. "

  • "So sad, wanted it to be great but would have settled for good......neither happened. Food not up to par like it used to be....."

  • "Upon entering you can smell the aroma of the grill so was very excited. Overall feel was that of a supper club which is exactly what I was looking for. Started with ceasar salad - probably the worst I've ever had (too watery) so was disappointed with the first course. Parents had soup which they enjoyed. Ordered wood fired chicken (house specialty) and was underwhelmed because it was dry and al dente veggies were hard and couldn't be easily cut with steak knife. Best part of meal was mashed potatoes. I want to like it since I liked the ambiance so will try again and order something different. "

  • "This is our favorite place in Glenview and maybe even the North Shore. The food is great and the restaurant has a warm and friendly feeling. The service is always great and they make you feel welcome. The rotisserie chicken is outstanding."

  • "Six old friends (w/a variety of tastes and dietary preferences) were all happy. Something for everyone! Hearty and delicious food. I had Mary's Woodroasted chicken (w/peppers and balsamic reduction) and was truly some of the tastiest chix ever. Homemade salad dressings are fabulous, fish, fresh veggies, all prepared perfectly. My friend enjoyed the baked French Onion soup and noted that it was really rich and tasty (not overly-salty as FOS can often be). It's obviously a neighborhood gem -- filled to the brim on a Saturday night. We can see why. Prices very reasonable too. The live duet performing in the bar were very talented. Great musical repertoire. We will definitely go back."

  • "They did not have my reservation, in their system when I arrived. If I did not show them my confirmation, I would have been SOL. Please check to make sure this gets fixed. I go to this restaurant often."

  • "I enjoy this restaurant and the friendly staff. The food is tasty and the portions are large to feed the hungry man in you."

  • "Good food/service - but the manager did not honor the Open Table Reservation. We searched OT for the area and saw Johnnys was listed as having open reservation times. Wanted to try the restaurant so we booked on-line and "got" a 7PM reservation. Busy Saturday. Arrived on time for the reservation - received the pager - waited at the bar just like the walk-ins … finally seated 30 minutes later - after at least five couples without reservations were seated first (we know they were walk-ins because we talked with some as we waited to be seated). Nice place but would not go back ..."

  • "The dimmed lighting gives it a relaxing atmosphere and great climate to enjoy your favorite dish. I had fried calamari and London broil with mashed potato's. Kid had chicken tenders and the wife went for chicken and ribs way too large for her but you can always take it home ;) Overall the place is great."

  • "Our group of six adults had a wonderful dinner out. Two of us had the liver & onions, which is the best I've tasted from local restaurants. Other dinners included pork tenderloin, barbeque chicken, steak & lobster combos. We all agreed that our entrees were as expected and we took home leftovers. The atmosphere is comfortable and the service, excellent."

  • "Went there because we could get a reservation at the time we wanted. Got there & we still had a 30-minute wait, which was not good for our daughter."

  • "We vare long time customers of Johnnys but despite being told New Years Eve the service would be good, we found the opposite and did not appreviate the " mass early" produced food. Our chicken rib/ combo plates were dry,,overcooked .The chicken 1/2 looked like a half of a cornish hen for the cost on the speciall menu. My wine was old and Iweasked 4 times for a water refill. No one came to our table to ask if everything was ok, depsite our waiter walking around just looking at tables It was not busy in our section. With credit card out to pay our bill, we held it until we could get one reflil on water!"

  • "Weve eaten at Johnny's on numerous occasions over the years, including last New Year's Eve, and decided to bring friends there this New Year's Eve since we have always been happy with the our dining experience. The service has always been excellent. Unfortunately, this year our group was disappointed with the food. Two of our party ordered the filet mignon. It had little, if any taste. They ordered the smaller portion, but it was so small you couldn't really taste anything in what turned out to be two to three small bites. Half of the plate was mashed potatoes. A portion of the broccoli was cold-- like it just came out of the refrigerator. We will give it another try, but will more than likely rethink going there again next New Year's Eve."

  • "Johnny's is known for their oven roasted chicken and it is THE BEST. Regular, Greek or BBQ. Chicken and mashed potatoes are great. Burgers are great as well. Pasta is not so good. I'd stick with chicken or burgers if you choose to dine here."

  • "Our party really enjoyed the great steaks and food. And, it was a Monday, so they were running a half-off wine special, allowing us to indulge more at a great value. The service was excellent; the greeting of the owner/magaer genuine on entry and departure; and the overall feeling was very jovial. We will return!"

  • "Johnny's can always be counted on to deliver, good food, good service, and apleasant atmosphere. One of our favorite places to meet friends for dinner."

  • "Prime rib was not that good, too much grissle, very surprising. The onions on my liver and onions were not done, pieces sliced too thick, they're not supposed to be "raw". Usually the food is very good, out of the 4 of us dining, 2 meals, not so much."

  • "Johnny's Kitchen and Tap is a comfortable, friendly place with quality food and good beverages. The live music on Friday night, when we went, was a nice touch. The beverages were very effective at the end of a long week. The quality of the food was in line with the price and the booth was comfortable. Although the restaurant was busy, it was not too noisy and we had no problem having a conversation. This is probably not a place for those expecting haute cuisine, but a good straightforward Chicago/Midwestern restaurant for an easygoing dinner. We will go back."

  • "I have 2 or 3 favorite dishes at Johnny's. This time I tried the Chicken Kabob and was totally pleased with my choice. It was tender and juicy and loaded with flavor. The 1000 Island dressing is always good, but was particularly outstanding on the night I was there."

  • "I kept hearing radio commercials for Johnny's Kitchen and Tap and decided to give it a try. We usuallly go out with our neighbors on Friday night for dinner so I suggested this restauarant to the group. We had a party of 8 so went in a couple cars. One group got to the restaurant a little early so they were sittting at the bar waiting for the rest of us and had already gotten a beeper. We just had time to sit down and order a drink and get it before our buzzer went off. The only thing that I didn't like was that we were just outside of the kitchen so had wait people going back and forth constantly. The group ordered a variety of items and everything was very good."

  • "Always reliable, good solid food. There may be few outstanding or creative items but the always tasty, very plentiful, consistent food and moderate prices have kept us coming back for almost 20 years. The wood roasted chicken is always wonderful, the fish fresh tasting and the veggies are never overlooked. Good for families and almost anyone else who wants a good meal and doesn't seek a gourmet or special romantic evening."

  • "Very reasonable prices for good quantity of food. My wife had an excellent, inexpensive steak. I had Mediterranean Shrimp which I probably wouldn't get again -- too much feta cheese -- but with a huge number of shrimp. Service was excellent."

  • "the chicken was good but service was a little off We had to ask twice for bread and drinks got confused It is good for a neighborhood place but not the best such place I have eaten in"

  • "I have come here a couple time for Lamp chops and as always they are excellent. My kids like to come here as they can find things that appeal to each of them. I will warn you that the tables are a bit close together, but the food makes it ok."

  • "We love going to Johnny's with friends. There is never any rushing when your're there. You can sit and have a drink with friends and conversation. The staff and owner (Mary) are wnderful. We look forward to always going there."

  • "Our four dinners were very good. I had the pork chops and they were very tender and and has a lot of flavor. Hubby had chopped steak and he loved it. The couple we treated had fried shimp and skirt steak and both enjoyed their meal."

  • "First time there for 3 out of 4 of us. Reminiscent of a Wisconsin dinner club. Seems dated but so what. A vast menu including plenty of comfort food. Roasted Chicken dish with sauteed peppers was delicious; liver and onions like "mom's". Nice salad with homemade dressings. Blue cheese was worth it. Wine list very basic but you go here for the food. Definitely worth a return."
