Had the lamb chops. The vegetables served were a nice change from the regular green beans or broccoli most restaurants serve. Food was delicious and the staff was friendly. Great drinks also. Good job.

Was a bit worried after seeing some of the review on yelp. But we were pleasantly surprised; we had a Groupon deal and after the waitress explained that they go out and select fresh fish each day my wife ordered the Halibit and it was very fresh and good. I had the lamb loin chops and it was also very good. We had buffalo wings for an appetizer and ordered the signature martinia which was also very good. Service was a bit slow, they could use one more wait staff. It took like 20 minutes to get our cheesecake.

Where are people getting all this great food from in reference to Johnnie Blue?? Went on Valentine Day, it was DEAD! I was shocked and that actually gave me a funny feeling right at the start. We were told to sit where ever we like and the moment we sat down, it was a light disturbing aroma of sewer mixed with tidy bowl in the air. Wait staff was nice, the ambiance was not the best for a Valentine, the drinks were shabby, The music was not great, they need to pick a genre and stick to it also they should play the music according to the crowd. It was not "Valentine" music. The food was NOT GOOD. Walmart steaks and porch chops, box mash potato's, frozen veggies, the shrimp were good BUT they should offer a sauce or two with it.

I bought a groupon for our anniversary based on the description...I should have read the reviews first. "Live music every night" = random staff playlist (Michael Jackson followed by Barry White followed by REM). The staff were talking very loud, about beer and how training was going. "Cozy couches by the fire" = modern stiff couches at the opposite end of the restaurant. My plate was dirty, glass cracked and chipped, fish was tough and veggies were cold. My boyfriend's "medium rare steak" was mostly pink. The decor was the same small 3x5 rug repeated in various spots around the room, they were all crooked, and random pics of mobsters and old actors. Way overpriced, even at the 50% off groupon level, for the quality, service, and ambiance.

I made a reservation for 8:30 on Open Table, and when we showed up the host/server looked at us like that was impossible. OK, no worries that they did not "get" our reservation. We sat at the bar and the seats were very uncomfortable because they sank down as you sat in them, so my friend who is heavier than I am sat quite a bit lower than I did. Our main courses were a beef dish and a fish dish and both were over-cooked. Both were plated with the same mixed veggies that looked and tasted like they had freezer burn. Yuck. The dessert - cheesecake - was good, and our server was nice. With all of the GREAT restaurants in Chicago - We won't go back to Johnnie Blue.

My wife and I had a good night out. The place was not crowded so the service was outstanding. My lamb was prepared nicely, but my wife's bison burger was overdone. The owner or manager stopped by and wished us a happy anniversary and gave us a tasety, complimentary dish that included fresh fruit and caviar. Overall, a nice neighborhood spot with a stocked bar.

This was my first visit to the restaurant & I was wowed by the food! The place is small so make a reservation. But it's worth it! Staff is upbeat & attentive and the food was delicious. It's a real sleeper and I will definitely go back!

Main courses were all good. Apps and dessert only fair. Our server was also bartender and although she was extremely nice, she did not have the ability to do both jobs in a timely manner. They were not crowded, but they need more help or diners will be turned off.

We found Johnnie Blue via Groupon in this unlikely location. The food is excellent. Lamb chops, prime rib and tilapia, all were done to perfection. Tilapia was one of the best I've ever tasted. The sauce was delicate, adding a nice flavor, without being overpowering. The deserts - cheesecake was fabulous, triamisu just OK. Service was slow, but it was a Saturday just before Christmas and the place was understaffed for slow times. It is a uniquely styled restaurant. A very high old style tin ceiling joins the more contemporary interior. Something though is lacking in the atmosphere and ambiance. You feel somewhat lost in space in what seem like a cavernous space, generated by the ceiling heights, very dim lighting and general grayish coloring.

While it still looks like it can have a bustling bar, the food is as much of an attraction. Both the almon and the lamb chops were excellent quality, were well prepared and the portions were generous. The service was very professional and friendly. We will definately go back.

Just a weird restaurant. They are trying to be a high end club/lounge that has great food...but the food was average and the club feel was forced. It smelled bad too. The table was really uncomfortable and there are Scarface movie pictures all over the place. It's really cheesy.

When we walked in there was only one other couple in the place so naturally I at first thought, oh oh. Our waitress at first seemed like she was a little new at the job but we had patience and she turned out to be very nice and friendly. We tried the spinach and artichoke for the appetizer which was a little bland. Our drinks however were made just right and strong. I had the JB martini and my girl had the Marilyn maker. The best part of the meal were the steaks, mmmmm. They were cooked exactly how we asked and the cuts of beef were top quality. We had the newyork strip and the ribeye. They come with delicious fresh veggies and we ordered a side of tasty mashed potatoes. Cheesecake for desert was very good and toped with fresh strawberries.

Overall, my trip here wasn't bad but either they were short staffed or the bartender/waiter/busser was new. I think he needed more help and was trying to do his best. The food was excellent though but i don't know if i would go back but I do farther away. My meat was slightly over cooked from how I asked though and a little too salty.

Place has 15 tables, and 5 were filled when we arrived. One wait person who was not very efficient. Then the "boss" showed up, and dragged her away to handle some other stuff. 2 hours for a meal without coffee or dessert! Now the food was good! If you are not in a hurry, go here for steak or seafood. Veggies were al dente, and not oily. Potatoes great. Fish was best tilapia I have had in some time. Steak was seasoned just right and cooked to requested temp. Wings were good, too.

We ordered a steak and Red Snapper...The steak was overcooked (ordered Med rare came to the table med well..but was tasty) we did't have time to have it redone (since it took so long for our meal to arrive and we had an engagement we had to be on time for) so we had to deal with what came. The snapper was gdecent, but not chef quality to me. Service was very slow and we were the only people in the place at 7pm on a Saturday - don't think we will be returning..We were hoping to find a great neighborhood place for steaks ...but we were disappointed...

Based on reviews on OpenTable we decided to try this restaurant. We were very disappointed. The service was poor. Waited a long time for order to be taken and for our food to come in an empty restaurant. When it did come, the order was wrong. Food was fair. Chicken and steak were overcooked, salad was very oily, eggplant spread was bland. Bison burger and lamb were good.

The restaurant/bar/night club has a bit of a 80's ambiance with Mob Movie posters on the wall. In the evening they serve small plates for sides and serves several meats as kabobs. Our server was friendly and knowledgable (she may have been the manager or owner). She suggested the the Porterhouse Steak kebab and the chicken kebab, so we got them. We also shared the asparagus and mashed potatoes sides. The servings were on the small side, but tasty. I thought the Porterhouse steak was a little overdone. Service was a little slow, but I was told they were setting up for Greek Night- they had a whole pig and lamb roasting. Would like to have come to that.
