A word from John J Jeffries at the Lancaster Arts Hotel
During renovations, workers found in the floor beams a signed inspection stamp--November 5, 1890--with the name of tobacco inspector John J. Jeffries. We named the restaurant after him.

We’ve designed our menu based on local, seasonal, sustainable and organic agriculture and delicious recipes. Please join us and taste the difference of local farm-to-table sustainable cuisine in one of Lancaster's best fine dining restaurants.

As the Chefs and Owners of John J Jeffries, we believe you will find our passion for supporting local businesses and preserving the land we live on, to be contagiously obvious in how we run our restaurant.
All of our meats are raised locally, confinement-free on fresh green grass pastures. No hormones, antibiotics, steroids or forced-fertilization occurs.
Our produce is local organic or chemical free. We use local grass fed cream, butter and eggs.
We also provide sustainable seafood and support sustainable fisheries.

Every small and/or large plate meal we have eaten has always been very pleasing to the palate and eyes. The food is always prepared and presented perfectly! We also like the fact that all food is purchased daily and locally, which supports the community and guarantees that the food is fresh! Prices are reasonable as well. It is a super place for special occasions, but also perfect for any non-occasion meal that one knows is always worth the time and costs!!! Service has always been excellent as well ... never left waiting as the server is always checking to make sure your needs are met and you are pleased with your meal. John J Jeffries is definitely one of Lancaster's best dining experiences!!!

Our first time to JJJ's & it was out of this world! We started at the bar with the perfectly concocted Mule & a Dark and Stormy. Nice and "ginger-y"! We started with the steak tartar and the shrimp and grits. The steak was pure magic, perfectly seasoned and 100% yummy. The shrimp & grits were smooth, succulent and an excellent partner that held their own against the steak. We almost licked the plates. For the large plates we ordered the pheasant with veggies and sweet potato/apple & my fella had the mackerel. Words cannot do it justice. Dessert was a chèvre cheesecake and some French press coffee. Our server, Hunter was fantastic, knowledgeable and an all-around super dude. Reasonably priced for the fresh and fabulously prepared food.

After a rough start, things went well until the end. After parking the car ,I scanned the restaurant unable to find my wife. I had to call her because the hostess was dealing with others and found her behind a curtained-off portion of the lobby. Our waiter, Carl was fantastic and so was the staff in general. the problem was with the hotel management. She insisted on having the front door open after several request to close it. The wine helped but my wife had to dine with her coat on and I asked for mine to be wrapped because it was cold due to the chilly draft provided by the front desk manager. We provide speaking engagements for area doctors and will pay close attention to details should we consider hosting an event at this establishment.

JJJ always has imaginative recipes made with locally-sourced foods. Great drinks and knowledgeable bartenders too! I appreciate that they put effort into creating vegetarian entrees instead of just throwing something meatless together like other restaurants often do. Its a smaller place so be sure to make reservations.

Had been a couple of years ago and had a great meal. I came on Saturday night for date night and was overall disappointed. We started with drinks at the bar, which was just what I hoped -- well made cocktails in an attractive and lively atmosphere. Service in the restaurant was good if a little intrusive. Salads were good. The entrees, however, were so over salted as to be virtually inedible. My date had duck and I had the skirt steak special-- neither of us ate more than a few bites. Too bad because the food was otherwise cooked well and the presentation inventive.

We were at the restaurant on Halloween night to celebrate my 50th birthday. We had never been there, looked forward to it based on reviews and what others have told us. We had a very nice table, very roomy and comfortable. Our server was Hunter - great guy! Very personable, took his time and reviewed lots of items for us in great detail as suggestions to consider. The food was very good, and while the dessert menu looked wonderful, we were too full to partake this time around. We'll be back to visit again - to try a different dish on menu. It was a little noisier in the dining room than I anticipated, but that seems to be the norm nowadays in most restaurants, even the more refined ones. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

This place is known for their local-sourced ingredients and making everything fresh. You can certainly tell this once you taste the food. We were there for a birthday dinner and they offered a few complementary items which was nice and unexpected. They don't have a huge menu, but it covers pretty much all tastes and everything we tried was amazing. The service was pretty good as well. The seating is fairly close though so you can overhear conversations of the people nearby, so we overheard some very annoying talk, but didn't ruin the night. This is a bit pricey, but compared to other similar places the portions are perfect, not too little or too much, and you really get what you pay for.

We three high school friends came to Lancaster for a reunion and had a lovely dinner here. Be sure to make a reservation. The lamb shanks fell off the bone and the Squash soup was delicious. Two in our party had the chicken and thought it was delicious. The service was good and the waiter unobtrusive. The atmosphere is hip and the hotel itself lovely. I would definitely come back here.

This was our first time along with our friends and found the food to be very good, however the portions were a bit small and honestly for a 34.00 ribeye I didn't expect it to be so fatty. I've definitely had better for less. The service was great and very friendly. We arrived about ten minutes ahead of our reservation and had to renain standing at the doorway in the noisy bar area for about ten minutes and that was not enjoyable. I didn't quite understand that since the dining area was open and several open tables since it was early.

My husband and I ate here on Friday night. It was our second time here and it did not disappoint. We both had a wonderful pumpkin soup to start that was wonderful. Hubby had the steak for his entree which he enjoyed and I had the lamb shank that was to die for. The meat literally fell off the bone and the sauce was out of this world. The food here is from farm to table!

Dinner was so incredibly good on the first night of our stay at the hotel that we went back for our second night. The steak tartare appetizer was crazy good (ask for little or no siracha if you don't like heat...it doesn't list that ingredient on the menu) that we ordered "the truth" (full dinner size portion) the next night. Wow! So fresh, tender, flavorful. Really a delicacy. We also had the braised lamb shank (terrific), duck, poached beet salad, spinach salad (all great) and the vegetarian dish. Neither of us is a vegetarian. It just sounded so delectable that we had to try it. We were wildly impressed with the combo of flavors. This is a must-go when in Lancaster...or make a special trip. It's worth it!

My wife and I enjoyed dinner at the John J Jeffries recently and were impressed with the food and presentation. Staff were knowledgeable and efficient, and the food was for the most part wonderful. I had two small plates, the Shanker beef tacos and the Jim bim bop. She had the shrimp dish and we finished off with a flourless brownie and the chevre cheesecake. The only part of the meal that I had any reservations about was the taco dish, which while well seasoned was too greasy for my taste. The bim bop was very good, lots of interesting flavors and textures while the brownie was also terrific as was the cheesecake.

This is truly one of the hidden (or not-so hidden) gems of the city of Lancaster. Nestled inside the Arts Hotel, this truly farm to table restaurant is a hit. The menu is full of choices for all types of diets and preferences. Everything is served with a thought to presentation and taste. I really enjoyed the pumpkin soup and the pheasant. The wait service is top notich and the overall noise level was good for a Saturday evening in October. I strongly recommend this restaurant to those who are big on sustainable agriculture and ways to go back to a time when food was not wasted and effort went into working with area and local farmers. The owners/chefs have incorporated a solid way to have a good meal with farm fresh ingredients!

One of the best restaurants in Lancaster, PA! Don`t expect a mass quantity of food just great food, great service and great drinks. We prefer organic, non GMO, fresh non processed food so if your looking for big quantities of food and cheap drinks head on down to the Hungry Hefner...you know the place...large crowds, noisy, kids running around, bathrooms that need to be tidied up, etc. Big bonus, they serve till 10PM, most places in town roll in the sidewalk by 8 or 9 PM!! 4 stars in our book!!

Our dining at John J Jeffries was fantastic! I had read a lot of great reviews and I figured the food couldn't possibly stand up to my expectations, but everything was so delicious it exceeded them by far! The place was certainly hopping - we had to wait a few minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation, so make sure you make one. The Steak Tartare is one of their specialties, and I would highly recommend trying it if you're adventurous enough. I rarely eat meat, but it was so well done that I ate almost the entire appetizer! We tried some of the house cocktails, and they were fabulous as well. Everyone left pleased and in a great mood. I'm already planning to dine there again as soon as possible!
