  • "for this restaurant...not saying it isn't worth it but just saying that it would be for a special occasion for me"

  • "Celebrating or son's good greats with a special dinner at John Howie steak. Excellent table side Caesar and our steaks were perfect. my wife appreciated the waiter's suggestion of the scallop appetizer for dinner. My absolute favorite though was the Yukon gold potato pancakes."

  • "Great food, great service, good wine and ambience is not bad. For steak lovers, a perfect place to dine you love to come back !"

  • "We were seated in the passage way/hallway just as you first come into the main seating area and it is not a very good area to sit in our opinion, too much foot traffic to/from bar and restrooms, should've asked to be seated in the main seating area. Sitting where we did just felt uncomfortable, especially since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Next time, we'll ask to be seated in the main area."

  • "Excellent food with (occasionally) less than attentive service."

  • "Metropolitan Grill, Ruths Chris, Mortons, Daniels, El Gaucho (original and current) - this beats them all. Vast array of steak options on the menu as well as non-steak items. Presentation was extremely well done and not ostentatious at all. Service was fantastic will all wait staff being extremely friendly and attentive. Waiter even filled our water glasses rather than getting the person whose responsibility it was to do it."

  • "I eat here as regularly as my budget will allow and so that is the only draw-back. That being said, it's worth every dime! The food is always delicious, the service is impeccable (they re-fold your napkin if you go to the restroom!) and they never rush you. There is a bit of entertainment value (not super flashy but fun) if you order the tableside salads or desserts."

  • "I have eaten here for dinner personally and for business and have never been disappointed. Amazing food paired with outstanding service is hard to beat. Well worth your money!!"

  • "Of all the places to eat in the Seattle area, this was the right balance between elegance, exotic and comfort. The service was beyond outstanding and accompanied by an exceptional menu elegantly prepared and presented offered the most romantic, inviting experience I've had in the area, and perhaps the country. I will be returning many times and encourage my friends and colleagues to do the same."

  • "In our books, Nothing before has compared with the quality, service and deliciousness of the Metropolitan Grill . . . and then we came to John Howie and it is definitely on the same level as the Met . . . . also matches the prices!! lol"

  • "I've asked to go to John Howie Steak for Father's Day the past two years. This year, we learned that my daughter has food allergies. The staff at John Howie Steak was extremely accomodating and worked with us to modify dishes to avoid any issues. We were extremely grateful for their willingness to work with us and make it a pleasurable experience for the whole family. This was all on top of the great food and great service that you'd expect from a great steak house."

  • "The steak was excellent, everything else was meh. Sunday night, not crowded, and we're seated in a booth in the hall (we had reservations made weeks in advance). When spending $150.00+ pp on Dinner I expect to sit in the dining room. Starters of Tempura Fried Bacon (which was ok, but more of a gimmick than anything) and the Crab Cake (very nice). Caesar was very good. The steaks were excellent, as you would expect. Sides were mixed but ultimately didn't live up to the steak. Crème Brule and coffee to close were very good. Service was acceptable, but we did wait for the check."

  • "a group of 6 went to lunch and the service could not have better and food was excellent!"
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "We had the bone in rib eye. Was quite delicious. The sides were good, (asparagus and yukon mashed swimming in delicious butter) but came out a bit cold and the sauces a tad coagulated. Still quite tasty, though. The wait staff was very friendly and quite knowledgeable and informative regarding the cuts of beef. The ambience left a little to be desired. I asked for a booth in my Opentable reservation and was a bit disappointed when it wasn't available (I requested a booth as it was our Anniversary and I mentioned I wanted a "romantic" experience). We were offered a "lovely window seat" which overlooked the freeway. Was not the romantic experience I was hoping for."

  • "This restaurant is quite expensive. However, as compared with its peers in Bellevue and Seattle it is head and shoulders above the rest. The service was very personable and not at all haughty, the steak was exquisite, you could drown in the wine and cocktail list, and the ambiance was absolutely perfect. It may not be as well known as El Gaucho or the Met Grille, but we would rather go here any time."

  • "Our dining experience was exceptional at John Howie Steak! We had always heard it was great. Now we know first hand what a wonderful place it is. "

  • "Always enjoyable. Foid is good, the decor lacks flavor. Looks like a diner. Lobster salad is good to try, twice baked potato looks great(didn't have it) depending on the type of steak u get it could be good to great"
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "Always a good meal here. Lobster salad is very good, I usually ask to add more greens. Potato cakes delish(with caviar of course!) steak is good and the flourless choc dessert is a must!!!!"

  • "Had a great anniversary dinner, tried a couple of the different steak options. Sides were great too. Service was off the charts outstanding - attentive and helpful but never intrusive. Had happy hour appetizers and drinks in the bar beforehand - great value in a more uptempo atmosphere."

  • "We had a very good experience! Menu was varied and pleasantly interesting. Very good efficient service."

  • "We are very disappointed this time when we went back to John Howie. We have ordered a Family Dinner for 4 and picked the 26 oz USDA Prime Chateaubriand. The steak came out very very salty, believed when it get marinated, the chef put too much salt. We asked for medium rare. The edge of the steak was dried and tough. The manager apologized and make us another chateaubriand but that is not the point. With a restaurant famous for its steak, this shouldn't have happened. The lobster potato salad was not as good as it used to be. Considered the price we paid we can go some other steak house or restaurants around the block and get better food quality. Really, really really, very disappointed."

  • "We all agreed that this was the best steak that you can get in the Seattle area!"

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful experience at John Howie Steak. We ordered the oysters to start then American Wagyu (Filet and Sirloin) with their famous Mac & Cheese (Beecher's Flagship Reserve Cheddar) and lobster mashed potatoes. BTW, I am still dreaming about that mac and cheese. The food was top notch and the service even better. Absolutely no complaints, will definitely dine there again."

  • "An amazing dinner with friends, fabulous food and outstanding service (Mark M)... Cannot wait to be back... Just wish they had a rewards program!"

  • "Food was very good - but not better than what you might pay elsewhere for less in my opinion at other Bellevue establishments like Bis on Main or even John Howie's Seastar restaurant. Ambiance is nice. Service was outstanding. They went out of their way to make us feel special for celebrating our recent marathon completion and anniversary both. Overall a great time but hard to justify the price. "

  • "Took the wife and kids for Mother's day. Wife's steak was supposed to be med. well, came back very well done. My steak was supposed to be a American Waygu Sirloin, turned out to be a filet, also cooked well done. This is the first time this has happened, the manager and server took care of the issue and offered a free desert and took my steak off the bill. Good service always wins repeat customers, even after a fail."

  • "Dinner at John Howie has become a "travel tradition" for us whenever we visit Seattle. We enjoy the ambience, service and above all, the excellent steaks! We've tried "famous" steak houses in other cities, but none has come close to the level of John Howie. It must be that you have set the bar so high that the "others" cannot hope to achieve your level of excellence! We look forward to seeing you again, but until then we'll have fond memories of yet another fantastic dining experience to tide us over. "

  • "This was one of the best steak dinners I have ever had, service was by the most professional I have ever experienced with chefs and wait staff going out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant and memorable night."

  • "Overall a decent food list but, the at table preparation was extraordinary. Very well presented dishes. Janette was knowledgeable and friendly. Very nice staff, and excellent cocktails. Steak was prepared well and the lamb was superb. I am not much on Steak houses as they tend to be very much alike...John Howie lives up to a excellent reputation. Recommend dishes that are prepared at the table as it expands the dining experience and is plain fun! Did not participate in the dessert round as we were too full and satisfied. Well done. "

  • "This was our first time at John Howie steak, and they lived up to their reputation. My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary @ John Howie Steak and it was wonderful! We each had a Filet Mignon and they were cooked perfect. It was a nice relaxing dinner, and our waiter was great. Will definitely be going again."

  • "Used to be a good steak house 35 day aged New York looked great bad cut tough texture service with an attitude Corporate dinner with guests Our waiter did not seem to really care that we had $70 steaks that tasted like leather saddle"

  • "A must do. Their beef is amazing. They cooked to perfection and the sides are well portioned and well prepared. The table side Caesar salad is AMAZING!!"
