John Howie SteakGreat for special occassionsWe brought my son to John Howie to celebrate his college graduation. The waiter acknowledged our son's special event on his first greeting. The food was superb from the deep fried bacon appetizer, continuing with the amazing steaks and to-die-for sides of lobster mashed potatoes and Beechers macaroni and cheese through the cherries jubilee (prepared tableside) finish. My husband and I spit a steak combo and instead of acting like we were cheap, they made a big fanfare of slicing it for us tableside. Yes, it is expensive, but John Howie has discovered the secret of making their restaurant exude elegance without feeling pretentious.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of best steakhouses in the areaThe tartares (steak & ahi) are both great as is the fried bacon. Have had the ribeye as well as filet here and they, too, are excellent!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNot for those on a lunch breakService was very attentive, but for those who need to be back within in a specific time frame, it's important to tell your server this. We didn't mention that I was on a lunch break and it was nearly 45 minutes from the time we were seated to the time our meals arrived. Great food, very knowledgable and attentive staff, but a very slow kitchen.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA high class restaurant withA high class restaurant with excellent food. A bit noisy.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA Graduates Night too Remember!!!What a wonderful experience...Again!!! John Howie , we salute you. This was a very special, and important day for my husband. After serving 25 years in the Navy, deploying on 6 tours, and starting his own company he was finally able to complete his education. Not with one degree, but 3. So when asked where he would like to go to celebrate, without any thought he said " duh, John Howie of course". Thanks to all the staff for making the evening a night too remember. The customer service was impeccable!! We can't wait to come back.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat High-End Steak House! This was our first visit to John Howie Steak (June 2013) and we were impressed. Service was friendly, helpful & prompt but not intrusive all throughout our meal. Everything we ordered was delicious, prepared just right. We had a 42-day custom-aged rib eye steak, a top sirloin, & Copper River salmon, plus appetizers (seafood chowder and french onion) & 2 sides with our meals (fried brussel sprouts and Yukon gold potato cakes). Add some wine & a yummy creme brulee dessert & it all came to quite a wonderful meal. The little extras were nice too - a taste/sample of a special chowder, a chocolate truffle to take home and eat later, etc. John Howie is too pricey for us to become frequent customers, but we will be back on other special occasions.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMJohn Howie always amazing!Back again for a Bday celebration for a friend....fantastic waiter and just as fantastic food.
Always a memorable experience!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific wait staff and theyTerrific wait staff and they gave us more iced tea even after we had cleared the bill. Most restaurants have policy against that. Steak salad is really good.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMJohn Howie BecauseGreat time. The food was good as always but Thomas our server was the best!!!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't be betterIf you want a steak on the Eastside there is not better place than John Howie Steak. Our steaks were prepared exactly as we had asked for and the side dishes were excellent. The service was perfect. Neither too much nor too little. Everything came exactly on time. There were several large groups there and we noticed that they were all served simultaneously. The ambience is nothing special; a view of the freeway but the food and service make up for it. It's expensive but worth it.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's all about the meat!meat good! service good! drinks good! don't come here if you are a vegetarian.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect!Best dinning in town! The steak is great and Twice baked is to die for!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I had a wonderfulMy wife and I had a wonderful experience at John Howie. Every bite of food was incredible. I strongly recommend the table-side caesar salad.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMCarnivores HeavenIf your anything like my fiancé and I where enjoying a good steak is something to be appreciated, you will definitely love John Howie Steakhouse. This establishment is priced accordingly for the experience. Some can argue and say that the cost of the steak could be too high or it should include a side but, being ordered a la carte is all tied into the ambiance where a side is ordered for two to share. The premium meat cuts along with the education make JHS an experience that you must enjoy. By the way, they do have King Salmon and King Crab - but people don't come here for the seafood! :)5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem for a special eveningAsked for and received a quiet table. Wonderful to be able to talk easily and feel like you're dining with your partner alone. Very romantic. Fabulous food and outstanding service. Loved the extra touches. And will return...soon!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day DinnerOur service was excellent and the food was the same. I had a filet mignon and my husband had prime rib. Both were cooked perfectly. It was a very nice dinner, very enjoyable.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service. Great steaks.Excellent service. Great steaks. Wonderful food. The view was amazing. We had a great night.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMa memorable birthday dinner!it was beyond my expectation and the service were amazing.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat steakIf you're in the mood for a truly amazing high end steakhouse experience, this is the place to go. We both had the American Wagyu fillet, easily the best steak I've ever had.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNice evening in BellevueWe were a little delayed in getting to our table at the time of our reservation but the manager was nice to come out and talk to us and let us know. One member in our party was a vegetarian and there was a separate printed menu for her. The table side preparation of the ahi tuna tartare was great and the taste was even better. Same with the table side spinach salad. The filet was cooked perfectly for everyone at the table and was delicious. Only 1 error in the evening. One of the vegetarian side dishes, sauté spinach, was incorrectly made with bacon in it which was the way it was prepared on the main menu. They comped the entire vegetarian meal because of that. All turned out at the end. Wine selection very good and reasonably priced.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMYum!!We had a wonderful dinner here starting with drinks and appetizers...try the tempura bacon! followed by a tableside spinach salad and the best rib eye cap ever!! The stuffed baked potato is to die for!! I don't know how we had room for dessert, but the salted caramel/chocolate ganache tart and tableside bananas foster w/vanilla ice cream were wonderful!!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food. Went recentlyExcellent food. Went recently for a birthday celebration with a little trepidation, as finances were tight after tax season! We were quite pleasantly surprised to find that on Sundays, John Howie offers a 'family style dinner for four' option. It was perfect for us. I appreciate that John Howie is fine dining without the snootiness in service that sometimes accompanies it. Our server and the sommelier were down to earth, friendly, and obviously experienced without being haughty: thank you!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was outstanding. The service was outstanding. The food was incredible. Finally tried the Wagyu beef and WOW!!!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for my husband's birthdayWe went for my husband's birthday and everything was amazing - from the moment we walked in, to the moment we left. The servers were all excellent. We had a wonderful wine, delicious food, excellent service and a wonderful and relaxed evening! We will be back for sure!!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful.Great food and great service. Our special occasion place4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe stereotypical expense-accountThe stereotypical expense-account steak house. Huge portions of everything from sides to steaks (their smallest sized steaks are more than filling). Pretty impressive wine list (at similarly impressive prices). We got an 1996 Bordeaux that was perfectly decanted by the sommelier at the table with the requisite ceremony for such a wine. The food was very good, but nothing was exceptional. We sampled the scallops, french onion soup, green salad, American Wagyu NY strip, Prime and American Wagyu fillet combination. All were well prepared and well presented. Service was attentive, but tended toward chatty and intrusive instead of the paragon of efficient and unobtrusive.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic setting and great food!Very nice staff and romantic setting. We had a lot of questions about the different steaks, and Heather was patient and very knowledgable. Her recommendations were spot on. We had a wonderful evening and the dinner and dessert were flawless. Exceeded our expectations.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a lovely meal, howeverWe had a lovely meal, however we had to wait for awhile before we were able to ask for a second drink. With all the staff in the restaurant, there was no reason for this.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom the bread basket to theFrom the bread basket to the service, from the Tuna Tartare to the American Waygu, John Howie Steak gets 2 thumbs up.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat as usual, consistentGreat as usual, consistent food, service and atmosphere.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMy work team and I had lunchMy work team and I had lunch at John Howie last week to celebrate an important milestone. We had an awesome time! The service was impeccable (thanks much Reggie!) and our meals were to die for.
The foodies in our group were impressed and can't wait to dine again. Have been to John Howie many times and have always had a great experience.
Let's hear it for working in downtown Bellevue!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMNot badAppetizers and bread were great. My $52 filet steak was suprisingly overcooked. The waiter was gracious and got me another one, with was cooked better, but overseasoned. Lava cake was rich, but didnt have much 'lava' in it. I would probably try dinner instead of lunch next time4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThere’s a reason why JohnThere’s a reason why John Howie’s Steak was recently voted Readers' Choice "Best Steak" in Seattle Magazine. The quality and variety of steak cuts is unequalled, and the grill master nailed the temperature for all my party’s steaks. The level of detail in table set-up between courses by both the server and back waiter was extremely good. We also enjoyed many of the old school table side preparations for salads, sauces, and dessert. The bacon tempura appetizer is a must try.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy experience was excellentMy experience was excellent at John Howie. I was looking for a nice upscale Steak House and succeeded in my efforts. They exceeded every expectation that I had.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTook the family for an anniversaryTook the family for an anniversary celebration (children 6 & 8 years old). Staff were friendly and accommodating with the children. Food was excellent, the Waygu beef melted on the tongue.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellentWas my 21st birthday, I didn't get the table I had asked for in my reservation, but at the end of the night it didnt matter as the service, food and people were excellent. I had gotten a free glass of wine and my dessert was free as well. The people there know how to take care of their customers. The food is so filling I got steak and a side of mashed potatoes I couldn't finish it. I suggest going here its sets a high standard now that i've been there.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fabulous night atWe had a fabulous night at the restaurant. we had an issue with the heat of our steaks which was handled wonderfully.
A very professional and friendly team - we will definitely be back for more.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and Amazing service!!!Our server was great, service through out our lunch was amazing.

Everything was AMAZING! Loved the crab cakes and the steak tartare, the foie gras dish was too sweet for my liking. The steaks were the highlight of the evening: tender, cooked to perfection. Table side desserts were such a treat!
Brian and the captains offered the absolute best in service! Will come back when in Bellevue again.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall I thought our dinnerOverall I thought our dinner was really good but I'm extremely picky about having my food prepared properly. I ordered the lamb and although it was very tasty it was cooked to a med-med well. Everyone good lamb eater knows it should be prepared rare-med rare. I was sharing the plate with a friend so I didn't ask them to remake it. My salad was over dressed as well. For the prices at this restaurant I expected the food preparation to be spot on! The tuna tartar was excellent as well as the banana foster.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMJohn Howie is always a greatJohn Howie is always a great experience. nuff said.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMService was impeccable andService was impeccable and food was outstanding. We had eaten at John Howie's in the past, but this by far was a much better visit. We would have preferred a seat with a view versus one in the walkway, but other than that, it was great.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeFood and service is always good. Love this place. The steak just melt into your mouth. We go back every time we are in Bellevue.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Outstanding service.Great food (yes, try the tempura bacon starter), as was expected. Everything from a simple icebergs wedge salad to my prime rib was perfect. The service far exceeded our expectations, which were high to begin with. Prompt, attentive but not overbearing. Accommodating (my wife was given a completely vegetarian menu-what idiot takes a vegetarian to a steakhouse? Me!) Now I need to go back and work through the amazing selection og steaks (Nebraska, Australian & Japanese),3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter have a fat wallet forBetter have a fat wallet for this treat - their steaks are over-the-top expensive and ala-carte. the service was impeccable though!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery expensive, but very good.Very expensive, but very good. My only beef is with the $58 lobster tail that was kind of dry and stringy. This place is a special occasion destination, but they sure make you feel special!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Absolutely wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived we received impeccable service. The hospitality, knowledge, and attentiveness were excellent. We had a party of 5 and each member was able to converse as the noise level was moderate. Each person in our party remarked at how well the food and the service were. I highly recommend John Howie for any occasion where quality of food, experience, and great night are on order.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOne word: Unbelieveable! One word: Unbelieveable! No one can cook a steak like John Howie. The service is impeccable - attentive, courteous and friendly.
