We wish we could recommend this restaurant for lunch but we cannot. There is a big difference between eating here for dinner and eating here for lunch. Doesn't seem like the same restaurant. Food at dinner is vastly superior although at much higher prices. Two of us had steak salads that were close to inedible. Meat in the salad was very tough. Combination with various greens was poor. Go for dinner instead when the restaurant has had delicious steaks.

We met friends for lunch. The menu was ecletic. Service superb- The meal would have been one to die for, but one does not die for lunch- Appetizers of brussels sprouts/mozzarella superb. You won't find the bahn mi in China Town. It wa an experiece. The lamb burger had all the plus of lamb and no negative Everything worked and the finale of bananna fosters was a coup. SUgar fruit rum and icream- all basic sensory groups were met

Hubby and I were in Bellevue for a business trip which coincided with our anniversary. Went to Howie's and got the Wagyu beef, which was worth every penny. Also crossed off a bucket list item by getting the kopi luwak. Also, worth it. Great place, great food and ambiance.

Salmon was just that - a piece of salmon on a plate - nothing else...nothing to make it appetizing - one piece of salmon for $40! Also ordered the Beechers mac n' cheese (al a carte) which was too hard - mac should have been cooked a bit longer!

I have not seen such expensive prices for steak on a menu like this, but even the moderate priced steak was definitely worth it. Amazing flavor and perfectly cooked. Everything is al la cart so it is a rather sad sight to see a piece of meat all alone on the white plate, but after all, the meat is the star at this restaurant. The other stand out was the fois gras, absolutely fabulous and worth a visit just for that.

We were told this restaurant was so incredible. Went for our anniversary. It was OK, nothing spectacular. The tableside Caesar was awful. Heavy on the mustard and lemon and way to much oil instead of the traditional creaminess Caesar typically has. While the steak was good, it was definitely not work the price. The Chocolate Molten Cake was hard and dry. Best thing we had were the rolls and the veggies. The wait staff hovered way too much. It was uncomfortable

Thanks to help from the Sommelier, we bought a moderate ($68) bottle of wine called TERMES from Spain and it tasted like a very expensive re blend. We ordered the Australian WABYGU, I had zabuton cut and hubby had the NY strip. The steak was unbelievable, as was the twice baked potato, the strawberry and pea salad and just everything. We were treated like royalty. It beats the Seastar on noise level and is a cut above food wise but they are definitely my 2 favorite restaurants of all time. This is the best meal I have ever had in a restaurant or otherwise.

Came here with my wife to celebrate a special milestone and turned out into an amazing experience. Everything was outstanding: food, service, ambience. They were really helpful in finding the best food for me and my pregnant wife, all the recommendations were spot on and our steaks were perfect. They really went above and beyond in creating an experience for us. Great investment of our time and money.

We were seated in the passage way/hallway just as you first come into the main seating area and it is not a very good area to sit in our opinion, too much foot traffic to/from bar and restrooms, should've asked to be seated in the main seating area. Sitting where we did just felt uncomfortable, especially since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Next time, we'll ask to be seated in the main area.

Metropolitan Grill, Ruths Chris, Mortons, Daniels, El Gaucho (original and current) - this beats them all. Vast array of steak options on the menu as well as non-steak items. Presentation was extremely well done and not ostentatious at all. Service was fantastic will all wait staff being extremely friendly and attentive. Waiter even filled our water glasses rather than getting the person whose responsibility it was to do it.

Of all the places to eat in the Seattle area, this was the right balance between elegance, exotic and comfort. The service was beyond outstanding and accompanied by an exceptional menu elegantly prepared and presented offered the most romantic, inviting experience I've had in the area, and perhaps the country. I will be returning many times and encourage my friends and colleagues to do the same.

The steak was excellent, everything else was meh. Sunday night, not crowded, and we're seated in a booth in the hall (we had reservations made weeks in advance). When spending $150.00+ pp on Dinner I expect to sit in the dining room. Starters of Tempura Fried Bacon (which was ok, but more of a gimmick than anything) and the Crab Cake (very nice). Caesar was very good. The steaks were excellent, as you would expect. Sides were mixed but ultimately didn't live up to the steak. Crème Brule and coffee to close were very good. Service was acceptable, but we did wait for the check.

I've asked to go to John Howie Steak for Father's Day the past two years. This year, we learned that my daughter has food allergies. The staff at John Howie Steak was extremely accomodating and worked with us to modify dishes to avoid any issues. We were extremely grateful for their willingness to work with us and make it a pleasurable experience for the whole family. This was all on top of the great food and great service that you'd expect from a great steak house.

We had the bone in rib eye. Was quite delicious. The sides were good, (asparagus and yukon mashed swimming in delicious butter) but came out a bit cold and the sauces a tad coagulated. Still quite tasty, though. The wait staff was very friendly and quite knowledgeable and informative regarding the cuts of beef. The ambience left a little to be desired. I asked for a booth in my Opentable reservation and was a bit disappointed when it wasn't available (I requested a booth as it was our Anniversary and I mentioned I wanted a "romantic" experience). We were offered a "lovely window seat" which overlooked the freeway. Was not the romantic experience I was hoping for.

This restaurant is quite expensive. However, as compared with its peers in Bellevue and Seattle it is head and shoulders above the rest. The service was very personable and not at all haughty, the steak was exquisite, you could drown in the wine and cocktail list, and the ambiance was absolutely perfect. It may not be as well known as El Gaucho or the Met Grille, but we would rather go here any time.

We are very disappointed this time when we went back to John Howie. We have ordered a Family Dinner for 4 and picked the 26 oz USDA Prime Chateaubriand. The steak came out very very salty, believed when it get marinated, the chef put too much salt. We asked for medium rare. The edge of the steak was dried and tough. The manager apologized and make us another chateaubriand but that is not the point. With a restaurant famous for its steak, this shouldn't have happened. The lobster potato salad was not as good as it used to be. Considered the price we paid we can go some other steak house or restaurants around the block and get better food quality. Really, really really, very disappointed.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at John Howie Steak. We ordered the oysters to start then American Wagyu (Filet and Sirloin) with their famous Mac & Cheese (Beecher's Flagship Reserve Cheddar) and lobster mashed potatoes. BTW, I am still dreaming about that mac and cheese. The food was top notch and the service even better. Absolutely no complaints, will definitely dine there again.
