Diner Reviews
  • "A bit on the expensive side, but my wife and I love this restaurant. If you want a beef dinner, this is the place to go. You're steak will be cooked to perfection and will be delicious! Awesome side dishes too! Too bad there's no longer prime rib during the week..."

  • "Great dinner with OUTSTANDING service! A very energetic place on Friday night."

  • "The food was good, service was great too. We didn't get much of a view as we ended up getting seated in a quieter area. I would have enjoyed sitting next to the window but didn't request it but maybe next time. Perhaps the main area was full. Made for a quiet evening, which was fine as well. Oysters were delish and so were the steaks."

  • "We celebrated our 19 year wedding anniversary here and it was perfect. It's gotten to the point where we don't even bother trying new restaurants. We just rotate between JHS and Seastar. You can't beat perfect!"

  • "My steak salad was delicious and seasoned superbly. The waitstaff was friendly, attentive and informative."

  • "We sat along the windows and it was just beautiful! Very romantic. The service was amazing you definitely get what you pay for! The steak was perfect, the veggies were okay but you come for the steak so it was fine. A great date night place."

  • "What a great dining experience I had my first time at John Howie. We were a group of 7 - four of us Chefs. So, there was a lot of expectations; and they were more than lived up to. The Service was formal, but friendly. The food was delicious and presented in such a creative and enticing way. I cannot say enough how good this restaurant experience was; and I will recommend it to everyone I know. Thank you!"

  • "Have eaten at John Howie several times and always tend to be very consistent. Had the large porterhouse and it was great."

  • "I have been hearing about the restaurant for a while and decided to give it a try. Very nice place and great service but the steak was not as impressive as I expected ( do a more flavorful one in my own BBQ from the one I buy is Costco). We had a 36 day and a 42 Day Aged cut and it was like any normal plain steak. Very diss appointed after spending 300 on a dinner for two"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 10th Anniversary here as a special occasion. We both had the Filet Mignon, she had the USDA Prime and I had the American/Japanese crossbreed version, and we both absolutely loved it. Definitely the best Filet Mignon I've ever had. The ambience isn't quite as nice as Daniel's, but the Filet was better. I though it was a bit loud and it was hard to understand the waiter, but he really did a great job and the sommelier was great in helping us decide between the 3 Cabs we were deliberating over. We settled on the Abeja and it was very good."

  • "The staff are very well educated on the menu and food intolerances. They take it really seriously. The steak is amazing, and ask the server for recommendations on which one to get if you are overwhelmed. The lamb was just perfect, highly recommended. The server was extremely knowledgable and polite. The meal service was very quick, we certainly could have drawn it out if we wanted to, but we weren't drinking and we were there to eat. Its an expensive dinner, but well worth it for special occassions."

  • "Went for our 31st wedding anniversary. We were treated well by waiter; the steaks were amazing (eye of rib best rib eye ever). The crab cakes were so yummy. The deep fried bacon everyone talks about...meh it's deep fried bacon. Highly recommend the Banana Foster, great show at table side and so yummy."

  • "Great as usual! The staff is totally wonderful and are always on time to cater to your needs.... When you need something there is no long wait and I have noticed this even when the restaurant is totally busy! and the Wygu Beef is simply to die for!!!!!! My wife and I love John Howie's and we do our special occasions there. I have also heard wonderful things about the lunch as well."

  • "We ordered the australian wagyu steaks. They are a bit pricey but, I've never tasted a steak as creamy & flavorful as this. Definitely the best steak in town!"

  • "Each and every time we have gone to John Howie over the past several years, we have always left very happy with our decision to come here."

  • "Recently had lunch there. Steak frites and steak salad at our table. The steak on both was quite fatty and poorly prepared. The salad was alright, very little cheese or dressing. Unusual, not what we've previously experienced. The service was great. Waiter and floor manager tried to make things better but if the food isn't there, then it's hard to make it right."

  • "A colleague and I hit John Howie for lunch this week. I'm a fan of the prime sirloin steak with mushrooms. Our waiter arranged for the steak to be served "blue", or barely warm in the middle, and it was fabulous. I had asked for as rare as was legal. Service was solicitous, friendly, courteous and prompt. My only knock is that the nose level in the main dining room made it a little tough for me to hear the wait staff once I was seated."

  • "Great menu selection for lunch but definitely focused on beef as expected. Good for a business lunch as there is an organized professionalism to the ambience. Nice views through big windows. Food was a mixed bag. I had the sirloin with mushrooms which was excellent but my lunch partner's hanger steak (steak frites) was not that notable. Some high end 28, 35, and 42 days aged cuts are available but at astronomical prices. Apparently, you can also order the really good stuff, Wagyu beef, off the dinner menu if you are so inclined. Be prepared to sell your Maserati to pay for it though."

  • "Need to try other steaks, had the sirloin one time it was totally awesome. Twice thereafter. Not so. Their side items are really special"
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "I just didn't like when the food was served to me, the server had his finger in my burger when placing the plate on the table. It kept me from enjoying my meal."

  • "John Howie restaurants consistently deliver the finest steak dining in this area. Far superior to the many chain steak restaruants in the area. If you want the best of the best, then John Howie is the stand out restaurant in Seattle metro area."

  • "The table side Caesar is always a favorite and unlike other places our server asked if we had any dietary concerns, (for me bell Peppers of any color) so when I ordered the lobster chowder the server came back with alternatives based on Red Bell Pepper usage. The tomato soup was a nice alternative , not as good as Alexas diner in Bothell but good. At John Howie the Beef source is the selling point, my wife's Australian raised tenderloin didn't disappoint, however RibEye did, and regardless of the cooking temp instructions , Med Rare was inconsistent. Perfect for my wife and more toward med for mine. So overall i would come back for another occasion but more for the service than the food based on this trip."

  • "A great hostess/server. She made the evening enjoyable dealing with the four of us. All the staff were great; some better than others but Rachel was really wonderful. Food was great. Recommendations were on par. We were having multiple celebrations so it was a good restaurant at which to celebrate."

  • "John Howie is THE best steakhouse in the Seattle area. I've been to all the top steakhouses (El Gaucho, Daniels Broiler, The Met, Canlis, etc.) and this is the place my husband and I go to for a special occasion. The food is always delicious and service is always impeccable. Yes, you pay for it, but again, it's a special occasion place for us. I recall at a previous position when we would have colleagues visiting from out of town who wanted to take our team to a meal and would always choose this place because it was even a favorite among non-locals. The one ding against the restaurant is I feel the price of their wines by the glass is a bit steep, but they do make up for it by generous pours. Always a highly recommended spot."

  • "This was our first time visiting a John Howie Steakhouse, and after examining the menu we knew what was in store. Understandably, we arrived with fairly high expectations, and the restaurant and staff hit the mark on almost all accounts. Aside from an above average starch and some asparagus which was a little overcooked to my liking, the rest of the evening was outstanding. The steaks were fabulous, salad and chowder outstanding, and the beverage service top notch. The service was wonderful and we were pampered at every step."

  • "My husband and I had an outstanding dining experience at John Howie Steak. The atmosphere here is romantic, staff was outstanding, and our server knew the menu well and made top-notch recommendations for steaks, sides and dessert! We both ordered our steaks off the fresh sheet, mine a 4 oz American Wagyu filet, and my husband's an 8 oz Zabuton, which we were not familiar with. I have never tasted steak this good. For sides we shared a wedge salad (delicious), lobster mashed potatoes (to die for) and asparagus with lemon hollandaise. Champagne and wine, and flourless chocolate lava cake. Nothing could be better. Highly recommend for special occasions."

  • "John Howie Steak provides all the right little details and special touches - amuse bouche, fresh silverware for each course, attentive but not overly bearing service, and love the little chocolate truffle that gets sent home. The one caveat is that the meat is cooked on the rare side - their medium cooked steak is my rare - still red in the middle so helps to know this in advance. Our waiter suggested we consider the "meal for four" even though we were a table for two - turned out to be a great deal with soup/salad, steak, sides, and dessert at a price that was the same or less than two steaks a la carte. Definitely will be back."

  • "My wife asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday this year. We had been to John Howie Steak when it first opened and have enjoyed Mr. Howie's restaurants for years, but when we went before we had an ok dining experiece and just chalked it up to their having just opened. I cannot believe that they actually when downhill in the years since we dined there. The caesar salad was horrible and tasted like it was dressed in just fishy oil. My New York steak ($60) had a giant slab of fat along the side and was so tough that my jaws got tired of chewing it. The waiter just kept running past our table and smiling. The ONLY bright spot in this dining experience was the gentleman clearing our table and keeping our water glasses full."

  • "Great portion sizes which are easy to share. The tempura bacon was very delicious and a great way to start our meat devouring night. The steak was perfectly cooked and definitely to my expectations. I think I was most impressed with the amount of staff on hand. It felt like there were at least 7 people supporting our table of two and I felt well attended for the entire evening."
