I had been longing to try John Howie Steak and a must honestly say that it exceeded my expectation. I’ve been to some great steak restaurants in the PNW. John Howie Steak is definitely in the Top 3 if not the best of all. They have a magnificent selection of steaks. The Wagyu beef is especially tasty. The steaks arrive at your table perfectly prepared and seasoned. Their side dishes are stars by them self. The lobster mashed potatoes are a must have. The restaurant also has a wide selections of wines that fit every price point. Service is 5 star. The staff is very engaging and attentive without being “clingy”. The knowledge of their beef and the various preparation techniques is exceptional.

  • OMG - Best Dinner in My Life!!!

It was the most AMAZING dinner ever! Both the water and food servers (both awesome) recommended the Tempura Fried Kurobuta Bacon with Sambal Maple Dipping Sauce (maple syrup, soy sauce and chili pepper). It was TO...DIE...FOR!! Our palates were cleansed with a little creamy, delicious Lobster Bisque. Mmmmmm! I had the 8 oz Filet Mignon and Maine Lobster Mashed Potatoes. Again, TO...DIE...FOR!! There were HUGE pieces of Maine Lobster in the mashed potatoes which were covered with the same creamy, delicious Lobster Bisque. I ate half my meal to save room for dessert - Bourbon Soaked Black Cherry Bread Pudding (black cherries, caramelized pears, toasted hazelnuts, caramel, and Maker's Mark ice cream). Again, TO...DIE...FOR!! Still in Heaven!!!

I decided to take my wife somewhere different for our anniversary this year, and I'd always heard great things about John Howie and his restaurants. The things I'd heard fell utterly short of reality. The service was fantastic, the food was phenomenal. We stuffed ourselves until we couldn't eat another bite--the food was so good we would gladly of kept going if we could have. We started with the tableside prepared Caesar salad. My wife had the Filet, cooked to perfection. I tried the 42-day dry aged rib-eye steak. It was like nothing I've ever eaten before--exquisite! We shared a side of Yukon Gold potato cakes with Creme Fraische. At that point we had to tap out...no room left for dessert. Simply Amazing Dinner!

Although I've eaten numerous time at John Howie's other exceptional restaurant, SeaStar, this was my first visit to the steakhouse. The bar had already been set high, and I'm happy to say that the steakhouse reached that standard, easily. Service, ambience, and food were all exceptional – I started in the bar with appetizers (deviled eggs ) and a drink, and then moved into the dining room. I had an amazing baseball-style top sirloin, mushrooms and twice baked potato. The dinner was very filling, so my only regret is that I didn't have room to try any of the amazing desserts. Although fairly spendy, I will certainly return to John Howie Steak in the future.

This was the first time we had tried John Howie. We were celebrating our 20 year anniversary. The waitress suggested a combination steak in order to try two difference kinds of beef. We were glad to have tried both, but did love the Wagyu Beef the best. The roasted corn and potato cakes were delicious as well. For dessert, the salted caramel tart was delicious! All staff were so attentive and helpful throughout the dining experience. We would suggest John Howie for others who really want to enjoy a special night out.

First, we had great service from all the wait staff. But the food and the price simply do not match up. We split everything and had one of the cheapest wines on the menu, but the meal came to $250 (2 people). For that, we need a knockout steak and other dishes. That didn't happen. Everything was good, but not great.

It was my second time there, but this time I didn't get treated as nicely as the first time I was there. We celebrated our anniversary there that night, but the waitress didn't ask us about whether we're celebrating anything. We wore something more casual, so she probably just assumed that we aren't celebrating anything. She also treated other guests better because they dressed up. I don't think I enjoyed being treated differently, and I will not go there again. The food was just okay, definitely not special anymore. You think you would be treated fairly when you go to fancy restaurants, but unfortunately that's not the case.

We went to John Howie for my husband's birthday with another couple this year and this restaurant did not disappoint! The service was absolutely perfect and the food was divine. The husband got a free full-size dessert of his choice which we were all able to share. The price of the food is pretty high, albeit worth it, so we were happy to have found a Groupon.

While the service was tip top, my wife and I found the food to be good but not one of the greatest dining experiences ever. There are certain restaurants like SeaStar and Wild Ginger where the food is as memorable as the company. The appetizers were really great, but being a bit of a grill master myself, the steak wasn't anything amazing. Not for the $50+ we paid for each entree. The drinks were incredible and the dessert was outstanding, but the main part of the meal was just okay. If you don't cook steak yourself, then you probably would have rated it higher than this, but I expected a mouth watering experience and just got a good (not great) steak. April, our server, was probably one of the best servers we have ever had. Top marks!

We wish we could recommend this restaurant for lunch but we cannot. There is a big difference between eating here for dinner and eating here for lunch. Doesn't seem like the same restaurant. Food at dinner is vastly superior although at much higher prices. Two of us had steak salads that were close to inedible. Meat in the salad was very tough. Combination with various greens was poor. Go for dinner instead when the restaurant has had delicious steaks.

I have not seen such expensive prices for steak on a menu like this, but even the moderate priced steak was definitely worth it. Amazing flavor and perfectly cooked. Everything is al la cart so it is a rather sad sight to see a piece of meat all alone on the white plate, but after all, the meat is the star at this restaurant. The other stand out was the fois gras, absolutely fabulous and worth a visit just for that.

We were told this restaurant was so incredible. Went for our anniversary. It was OK, nothing spectacular. The tableside Caesar was awful. Heavy on the mustard and lemon and way to much oil instead of the traditional creaminess Caesar typically has. While the steak was good, it was definitely not work the price. The Chocolate Molten Cake was hard and dry. Best thing we had were the rolls and the veggies. The wait staff hovered way too much. It was uncomfortable

Thanks to help from the Sommelier, we bought a moderate ($68) bottle of wine called TERMES from Spain and it tasted like a very expensive re blend. We ordered the Australian WABYGU, I had zabuton cut and hubby had the NY strip. The steak was unbelievable, as was the twice baked potato, the strawberry and pea salad and just everything. We were treated like royalty. It beats the Seastar on noise level and is a cut above food wise but they are definitely my 2 favorite restaurants of all time. This is the best meal I have ever had in a restaurant or otherwise.
