John D BistroMust try!Such an treat to have a place like this in the area. I've been to many of the other establishments in the area, but none of them compare to John D. The food was great, drinks were tasty, and service was professional and friendly. I'll definitely be back. Do yourselves a favor and try it. You won't be disappointed5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day Brunch--Excellent!Was here for Mother's Day Brunch, late. Even though we were the last reservation for the day, the service was outstanding and the food is always impeccable. Never have had a bad experience or a bad meal. Plus you can't go wrong with the bottomless Mimosa's or Bloody Mary's.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat restaurant!!This little neighbor hood gem is quite surprising, this is one great chef, and i liked the menu!! The noise level is very loud, and
that would be my only complaint, definitely worth a try, i highly recommend it!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had reservatonsfor 8. WeWe had reservatonsfor 8. We arrived 2 friends that we did not think were going to show were at our table. I asked the hostess for a couple more chairs. You would of thought I had asked her to pay our bill or something. She was very rude and talked 'down to all of us'. Stating there was no more chairs, no more room, you made reservations for 8 and thats it you are not getting another chair. I understand the place may have been booked full but she could of been nicer about it. Once done with her everything was good. The waiter did his best to fit us all in. The waiter gave us great service from start to end. The food was good. An odd thing was an added $2 charge if you ordered a drink on the rocks.? All and all it was a good outing.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest place in townI agree with a prior review, this place is straight out of NYC! We arrived early and it wasnt very busy, but it quickly filled up. We sat at an elevated table, on a stage, that overlooked the entire restaurant. We began with the caprese (that looked like sushi), mac & cheese, asparagus and the duck confit. Must haves. Delicious!! We ordered a couple Lamb Chops, a Filet oscar, Lamb Sliders, Bleu Ribbon Burger and Scallops. Presentation and taste were outstanding! We also ordered a bottle of Chimney Rock, which was priced to sell. I've seen it at other restaurants for easily double the price. Service was on point. Enough attention without bothering us. If it sounds like I like this place, you'd be wrong. I love this place. Best place in town!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I went to anMy husband and I went to an early dinner on saturday night. Both of us thought the food was fantastic. I had a veggie tower, and my husband had the onion soup and turkey sandwhich. I thought the prices were fair. We can't wait to go back.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe gathered for an anniversaryWe gathered for an anniversary party for "brunch" . Atmosphere was cool. Our group like the cozy seating with low tables but may not be for all. The "bottomless" mimosas & bloody Mary's were tasty. Brunch menu had a nice variety & was better than actual brunch buffet ( where you eat too much). My vegetable crossiant was delicious & very filling. Only ate half. Prices were very reasonable. We would definitely return.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable evening atVery enjoyable evening at John D's. The food is great every time, the service is good and the presentation is always beautiful. I normally bring out of town guests to John D's and they are always very happy with my selection. Glad to have such a great place in Ferndale.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMbellydance nitelove the diversity of last nites bellydance show....very nice!!!!!! nice bar, good lighting...not too bright...love the roll up garage door...like that you kept configuration of entertainment behind the bar!!!!!! chicken lollipops great...i watched food come out all nite....presentation outstanding!!!!!!one negative...$10 chop salad was so small i had to reorder...entree salads should be big enough to fill you up...it was a side salad basically for $10....either too much money or too small of salad...other than that...excellent service...very nice...thank u....wendy anderson....ps entertainment was excellent...bellydancers and musicians!!!!!!!!!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMJohn D Bistro was a greatJohn D Bistro was a great experience. We did have to wait a half hour for a table even though we had a reservation. BUT, when we explained to the manager that we had tickets to an event in RO, the server was there immediately and pushed our order through. We had a marvelous dinner (lamb chops and scallops) and still made it to RO with out rushing. We will definately go back. It is a small place a little crowded and more on the noisy side. If you are looking for a quiet place you would need to go when it is not so busy.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique Fun Restaurant in FerndaleThe service was really informative and helpful as well as friendly. The ambiance is unique and very chicago-esq with exposed brick and a somewhat industrial look on the inside. The vintage garage door give the place character and I'm curious to see if they open it up once it warms up, like restaurants in chicago do. The drinks were very tasty but a little on the weak side perhaps.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Brunch :-)John D Bistro is a wonderful brunch spot! I was there with friends before a matinee at The Fox Theater. The food was wonderful, we all ended up with the same Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque. The grilled cheese was made on delicious homemade bread with three types of cheese, basil, apple and more; along with homemade bisque, wonderful! I look forward to John De Bistro for dinner!3/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had our first date thereWe had our first date there when it was called club Bart. Wanted to come back to the place where it all started for us! Was our Valentines dinner(day after). Wonderful,we will be back2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMe and my husband celebratedMe and my husband celebrated valentines day there. There was live music that got a little too loud a few times. But it was ok. The server was so nice and patient. I'm pregnant so I had to alter a few menu items.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis cozy venue was one we'veThis cozy venue was one we've passed multiple times on the way to more familiar places, but when a special event came along I'm glad we made reservations (easy to do through the app, and the place filled up quickly). The servers were very attentive and helpful; the table was wobbly, which didn't bother us, but one offered to help correct it. The cabernet was reasonably priced and exquisite. We started with the buffalo mac and cheese and both ordered a salad. Everything well very well-presented and tasted excellent. I would definitely return for happy hour or a meal. It's worth mentioning that in addition to the fancier fare, there are more standard options like burgers and sandwiches for anyone's budget.2/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place is something straightThe place is something straight out of NYC or Chicago. The atmosphere is very cool. The food was amazing. The prices were very reasonable. 2 entrees, appetizer and a full bottle of wine for 72 bucks... That's VERY reasonable for this style of place. The band up above the bar was such a pleasent suprise. I was expecting the music to be too loud, however it was perfect. I was able to still have a conversation. I am planning on becoming a regular customer.1/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
