John Bentley's is a foodies' find in a quiet area near Redwood City. It's location is right off a main street, but doesn't affect the ambiance or clientele. Each menu option from soup and starter to entree and dessert is perfectly prepared and picked according to season and local availability. The service is more than outstanding. My server showed a unique and wonderful love of the menu options and always had a great recommendation for a dish that suited my tastes. The wine list is extensive and has an option for everyone, whether you're looking for wine by the glass, 1/2 glass, or bottle. John Bentley's is a great choice for the foodie in you, or for a great and impressive date or business meeting.

I love this place! The food is amazing, the service unsurpassed. As for a romantic place to go, John Bentley's is great. There is careful consideration paid to making your meal as intimate and special as you'd care to have it, but you don't feel like you have to speak in a whispered hush like some other swanky restaurants. Excellent for parties, or business meetings. I've had two lunch meetings with clients here and we were very well accommodated. I can't recommend John Bentleys highly enough!

Special-occasion restaurants in this area tend to provide consistently good service and atmosphere. The unpredictable variables are noise and service. This restaurant exceeded expectations in both areas. Service was warm, friendly and informed. When dining peaked, there was no lapse in service thanks to the attentive teamwork of the waitstaff. Also, they handled the birthday portion of our dinner celebration thoughtfully and discreetly. And, no one called my wife and me "you guys." Although we sat near the bar, our leisurely dining was never disturbed by bar noise. Special thanks to Rebecca! We'll see you soon.

I was referred to John Bentley's by a co-worker whose taste in cuisine I admire. Upon entering, I was pleased by the candle light level of lighting. The white cloth tables gave a formal look to the medium sized restaurant. Not knowing what to order, I asked our server what she liked most on the menu. I was very impressed by how much the server knew about the menu and even the fine details of the ingredients. She offered to share both her favorites on the menu as well as customer favorites. I didn't feel rushed throughout my two hours there and actually enjoyed seeing a long-time friend for the first time in two years. My only complaint is that I wish the portion sizes were bigger-especially the great dessert.

We had a 6pm reservation for 2 which was romantic because it hadn't started to fill up yet so we felt we had the restaurant to ourselves for a little while. I wanted to order the crispy sweetbread because you don't often see that on a menu. It was very crispy but I didn't feel I got to taste sweetbread. My husband ordered the seared ahi entree and that looked and tasted special. The apple streudel was a bit too sour for me but the vanilla gelato accompanying it was heavenly. I would definitely give it another try since the menu and specials of the day sound delicious. The service and atmosphere does make this a special dining experience so I would recommend this restaurant.

We always love going to restaurants where the staff is knowledgeable about the food. John Bentley's is a small gem tucked away in Redwood City where the staff seem to know the regulars as well as the menu. The bartender and waiter didn't steer us wrong with appetizer and dinner recommendations, respectively: the pulled pork and green apple crepe, and the terrine of goat cheese with fig tomato jam started us off with a delicious mix of flavors. Our dinners of the panko-crusted halibut over sweet potato and the double-cut pork chop with Yukon Gold mash were similarly outstanding, the halibut tender and light, the pork soft and juicy. We loved the bread, too, but sadly had no room left for dessert. We'll definitely be back, though!

The food here is fantastic. I feel like it's a hidden gem. It's very cozy, there is a great menu with plenty of awesome choices for any palate. Some things are traditional with a twist and some things are just plain a twist. And their sticky toffee pudding cake with ice cream is the dessert standard I hold up all other desserts to.

An attorney I work with highly recommended this place to me. I was really impressed with the service and ambiance, but most of all very pleased with the food (specially the dessert). We had asked for a quiet spot for a relaxing dinner. When we arrived, we were shown to just such a table, but our server warned that a large group was coming in and that if they were too noisy, she would move us. They were. She did. And all was handled with great graciousness and speed. The food was -- as it has always been on our visits to this spot -- excellent. The Spiced Lamb Sirloin with a Vegetable Tagine and Veal Jus was stellar, as was the luscious Lemon and Blueberry Cheesecake with gingersnap crust. Our server recommended a LESS expensive wine than the one we thought we wanted, and it was indeed a better match with our food. We'll go back again...and again...and again.

Our favorite place to dine when we want good food, good service, quiet & peaceful ambiance & these are always consistent here at John Bentley's! There are the stand-outs on the menu that we keep ordering because they're so good; but every once in awhile we try something new on the menu or on offer that particular time, & have NEVER been disappointed. In fact, we really have a difficult time in making choices, there are so many favorites on our list now. Thank you, John Bentley, & your staff for giving us a fine dining experience each time we come.

My second lunch was just as wonderful as my first -- we loved the ambience as well as the food. Creative and delicious uses of seasonal and local produce -- and even the most decorous of our party was reduced to sopping up the last bit of sauce with bread... I still haven't been there for dinner, but I love this place.

I love this place! The menu is small so you know that what is offered is the absolute BEST! The cozy booths are private and intimate, in addition, to the subtle lighting. Overall, this is one of my most absolute favorite places. Excellent meal, great service, what more can you ask for? John Bentley adds a big city dining experience to Redwood City. With a party of five, we each tried something different and everyone at the table was very happy with their choice. The fish was fresh and moist, the beef was tender and flavorful. Ours was a business lunch, but the ambiance could just as easily offer a romantic dinner. We even discovered that they have a business lunch room specifically set up for presentations and client meetings. I've found my new favorite local restaurant!

John Bentley consistently puts out incredible food which is worthy of any high priced San Francisco restaurant. The menu is wide ranging to suite many tastes and changes frequently. This was our first experience at John Bentley's. While the service was informal (friendly), our server, Danielle was amazing. She was charming, attentive' and could answer detail questions about the food, even to the point of comparing those details with other restaurants' preparations. I cannot remember having a better server anywhere. We will be back and ask to be seated at her table. I had the Hanger Steak. It could be cut with a fork and was sauced beautifully. The Caesar Salad used Asiago instead of Parmesan and was excellent.

Wow! Their prices for a neighborhood restaurant were worse than some San Francisco prices! We paid $8.50 each for a normal glass of wine. But the "insult" was paying $20 each for a small 3/4 cup of squash with ravioli/spaghetti sauce that was the smallest amount of food we have ever been served...no decoration, no vegetables, nothing! We felt insulted because we felt all they wanted us for was "profit." The only thing that saved our experience was our lovely waitress Amanda. We were offered a free dessert each which eased some of the pain. We would never consider going back there again. There are too many other great, less expensive neighborhood restaurants with nice ambiances out there.

I have eaten at John Bentley's in Woodside several times for dinner, and the fare was better executed there. While the food was quite good, my crab-cake sandwich was a bit heavy/soft. The napkins, however, smelled like mold, and I'm not sure why. That was a bit unappetizing. Overall, I believe in John Bentley's, and chalk up these flaws to an aberration. I was there for a business lunch, and the group was pleased overall.
