A word from John Barleycorn - Lincoln Park
The original John Barleycorn, which opened nearly 50 years ago at 658 W. Belden Avenue, has become a Chicago classic. From its debut as a neighborhood haunt featuring classical music and art slides to its current format as a sports-focused neighborhood bar and restaurant, the core of the concept remains the same: quality food at reasonable prices, a full-service bar with a stellar beer list and an eclectic interior which is both welcoming and comfortable.

We didn't actually get to eat there... Ratings above are there only because they are required to post. We arrived early with a confirmed reservation from Open Table for our party of six. The hostess said they were not taking reservations that day. She did walk back to see if she could seat us, but couldn't. We were limited on time, since one of us was an actor performing at the Biograph that night, so we headed to the theater and found a place for dinner before the show. Manager Guadalupe Ibarra contacted me with an apology for the botched reservation, and sent a gift card to help defer the cost of a meal. Since they realized their mistake, and seem to want customers satisfied, we will give them another try.

When I made the reservation I expected bar food. The food was way better than I expected, it was wonderful. The bar and restaurant are beautiful. Lots of woodwork and TVs. We chose this place because we were going to the theater down the street. The hostess was not very friendly. We were in a hurry and she waited for the large party to all come in and seat them first, she could of seated us while they were tracking in. We decided not to wait and sit a the bar. Good choice. Our bartender was on his toes and very friendly. Got our drinks and put our order right in, he was great. The mini burgers were good but the spinach dip was delicious. I love the area and hope to get back up there soon.

This is my fav Barleycorn by far. That being said, I was disappointed this past Friday. I purchased the wristband for the buffet and all you can drink BL's, bloodys, & vodka drinks for $30. The buffet was definitely worth it, nothing super special but for what I paid it was delish. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, pizza, etc. Where I found the problem was the drinks. After 5-6 drinks I wasn't feeling anything so when I went to the bar to get my drink I watched the bartender pour literally a SPLASH of vodka in a tall glass of energy drink. No wonder. I understand not wanting ppl to get hammered or go thru too much alcohol but its ridic when I pay for unlimited drinks & cant even get a buzz on. I was forced to buy other drinks eventually...
