  • " On Easter at 1:00 we (2 people) were seated in the main dining room in a dark corner. I looked around and there were lots of tables opened in the outside areas and asked if we could be seated there. The answer was a "curt/rude" NO. …I pointed at a table close to ours but with more sunlight, again "NO"….. The waiter was nice, finally got some drinks and ordered. Food came out within minutes , which is great when you are starving and/or in a hurry. We were neither.. We were there for about an hour and NONE of the outside seats were ever filled. The ironic thing is I have worked as a hostess for years, including John Ash (in its original location) so aware how a hostess has to balance the seating, etc. "

  • "We took our adult children and their spouses to John Ash for Easter. We wanted something special. It exceeded our expectations as usual. During the week days, we will bring friends to the happy hour there. I guess for me, the best part of John Ash is the ambience. The luxurious accommodations, great service, and fine food, nestled in a beautiful area. It is there for us when we want to get out of the hustle and bustle of Healdsburg, yet close enough that we don't feel like we are having to drive far at all. For us, it is our hidden treasure. "

The excellent cuisine is complemented by fine service with a nice feeling of the wine country while just on the outskirts of Santa Rosa. We have been dining at John Ash for many many years beginning with their first location in Montgomery Village. It remains a wonderful restaurant for special occasions as well as a perfect quick stop at the bar, known as the Front Room, for a drink and food after work or for an informal evening out. "

  • "We had reservations for our anniversary. We were promptly seated. Took a little long for our wine to come. Food was average - too expensive for the quality. I had the halibut which had too much dressing on it and the fish was a little cool and maybe even fishy. My husband had the scallops and shrimp over white beans.... weird combination - they should change that. The waitress was okay but seemed tense. We have been here before with a large group and we sat in the garden room.... that event was great. I would still come again but hope for better food and little more attentive service."

  • "Overall experience was very positive. Table was ready a few minutes later than our reservation but it was no big deal. Service was excellent. Gnocchi app was great, bread served was also delicious. Main courses were cooked to perfection, the steak & twice baked potato stood out. The dessert's including the special one the server brought to us to celebrate our anniversary were perfect. They also decanted a older bottle of Jordan Cabernet that made the whole meal."

  • "This is not a young, hip spot. If you are looking for the young crowd then this is not the place to go. However, the food is great, service is impeccable, and the wine list shines to support local wineries. My mister and I had a wonderful evening here that was filled with delicious food and great service. It was a fantastic experience and everything we ordered was perfectly cooked. This was not my first time here and probably won't be my last. I like that you can dress it up or down depending on your occasion for being there. We both gussied up a pair of jeans and I felt quite comfortable and not under dressed. I have also known people to go there for prom, so it can be what you make of it. The patio is super romantic at night."

  • "Our server was excellent. We looked forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary with our family and enjoying a memorable meal. Our appetizers were creative and good. The person who ordered the rib eye was pleased. Four of us ordered the shrimp and scallops on a bed of white beans and spinach. It was so salty I could hardly eat it . Three other people ordered the same dish and said the same thing. The spinach and white bean layer made the dish soggy, not appetizing with shrimp and scallops. We were both disappointed and somewhat embarrassed that several people from our party did not have an enjoyable meal. The following day I did not feel well. My hands and feet were bloated from the salt. What a disappointing anniversary meal : ("

  • "Very accommodating hostess and terrific waiter complimented the patio dinning experience at John Ash. There were three selections of an entry and salad/soup with two desert selections as well. Monday night was also a no-corkage night as many of the quests arrived with a bottle or two. Overall the food was very good. My swordfish may have been slightly overcooked, but with everything else done to perfection I'm not going to complain."

Perhaps I should have dined inside, although when leaving, it seemed inside was a little noisy as well. Overall, a great place to dine. Food is delicious and service is outstanding. The Front Room Bar, attached to John Ash Restaurant, is also a great place. Happy Hour is awesome....went there two nights oout of two!!!!! Would definitely recommend to anyone!"

The dining room was decorated nicely with red and white balloons, and confetti on the tables, so it felt like a party atmosphere. The raspberry meltdown flourless chocolate cake was superb!! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience."

We managed to get out with our guests without disrupting the rest of the diners. We'll come back soon to order another memorable meal, maybe with the same couple.
