Diner Reviews
  • "Shocked that this is a Bartolotta Restaurant! This spot was chosen for meeting someone at a halfway point. Sunday Morning Dining Room feels like cheap hotel conference room. Food was bland. Really almost sad. Maybe eggs or waffles is the way to go? $30 something for 2. I wish I had a positive comment about the food or drink. Unless you live near there -- forget brunch. Very casual. Young families."

  • "As always, the fish fry was delicious. My fish was tasty and the coating crispy. Love the relish tray, although the carrots were swimming in water. We overlooked that! I was content with my favorite popovers and strawberry schaumtorte."

  • "I was a little afraid to try Joey's but we had a gift certificate use. We heard some good reviews and some bad reviews, but our experience was great."

  • "We ate here on a Saturday night suggest making a reservation. The restaurant is very keen. Leather booths low lighting very romantic.Service was outstanding. She was very helpful and attentive with a great smile. The food though was the very best part. The menu is pricey and ala carte. With the price of $40 per person it did not disappoint. We ordered the Chefs special and it was fantastic. Dinner was a fork tender filet, 2 sweet scallops to die for,a huge baked potato and button mushrooms. Very much worth the money."

  • "A good experience. Liver and onions with cooked carrots was delicious although next time I might ask for medium rather than well done. One person had a filet and said it was excellent. Another companion enjoyed the kabob which featured lamb meatballs. The chopped salad was also very good. Large selection of side dishes to please anyone. We all enjoyed our cocktails Mojito, Mai Tais!"

  • "Joey Gerard's reminds Baby Boomers of the restaurants that our parents took us to for special occasions as kids. It was fun to take my mom (a little turn about). I have been there 3 times in the last year and the food and service is always excellent. Next we are going to bring our 20-something kids and introduce them to the "supper club"."

  • "We were looking for a special place to celebrate our Birthdays! We chose well, the atmosphere was great, the food was great and the desserts were scrumptious! We don't go out much but will remember this visit when choosing for our next special occasion."

  • "The service was pretty good, but the waitress did not ask if I wanted the bone from my Prime Rib. I left the meat on it and forgot to mention to her that I wanted to take it home. Steaks were excellent, potatoes awesome, salad great. Pretty good service all around. Easy to find and nice bar area."

  • "We will go back again! We had the prime, ribs and steak Diane, the food was great! Our server, Sharon did a wonderful job."

  • "Birthday dinner at Joey's! I start it off with the most delicious Old Fashion. Our first time guests raved about the tenderness of the steak (you can cut it with your fork)! Steak Diane is my favorite. Love it."

  • "Thought the servers congregated at the patio doors in front of my table for the whole evening. The food was very plain ( beef Wellington and fish fry ) and not very hot. The server Valerie kept calling us Hun, and honey and seemed like she was on 10 cups of coffee. A bit overpriced for a so called 'supper club.'"

  • "We have been to Joey Gerard's a few times. The food and service are always excellant! The wine selections are superb, something for everyone. Might I recommend a dirty martini to start and finish with the carrot cake...Yum!"

  • "The food was excellent, our Servers were very polite and knowledgeable of the menu and specials. Server made good recommendations based on her knowledge. My only complaint is the dining area was really loud. It was louder than the bar area. Overall a great place to eat, hard to hold a conversation."

  • "I wanted to give Joey Gerards a second chance just because we need quality restaurants on the southside. Basically, the food (1 cod fish fry and 1 perch) was good. Couldn't believe they have an upcharge for a potato pancake instead of fries. The service was very slow . We were seated for 1 1/2 hr. for a fish fry! To be fair, ordered one french onion soup (very good) one coffee (not hot) and one pecan pie (mediocre). The total bill (including tip) was $90.00. I tried to redeem the evening by enjoying the wonderful pictures they have on the walls...great nostalgia from the 50's. Basically, very expensive for a mediocre dining experience."

  • "Joey Gerard's in Greendale is a much needed addition of fine dining in this part of Milwaukee County. Our Friday entrees of Filet and Shrimp Combo and Maine Lobster stuffed with a crab cake were excellent. Service from the hostess, bartender, and waitress were friendly, efficient, and genuine. Perfectly attentive without annoyance. I really like the option of adding a soup or salad, and dessert to your entree for a relatively inexpensive upgrade in price. We are very happy customers."

  • "Food is exceptional, menu selection is wonderful, and love the atmosphere. However, in my reservation through Open Table, and in our interaction with my wait staff, I had highlighted that we were on a time schedule as we eating before a privent event at the same place, and needed to be done by a specific time. The wait time to take our order was too long, with less time to eat at a pace that would have been more enjoyable. Love my meal, but just a bit too long."

  • "Third time to the restaurant and best experience yet. Excellent steak sandwich and broasted chicken dinner. Service as always was top shelf but unlike the other times there were in hiccups in the food (minor issues on other visits). Will be back."

  • "DJ's popovers could have been more cheesy inside the popover. The outside crust of the popover was nice and flaky but found no flavor to the popover after biting into them. If the popovers were more favorable they may also make a nice lead into dinner instead of the chibata roll that came with the relish tray. I don't think it makes a good appetizer option. Combo and beef stroganoff dinners were excellent. Sautéed zucchini was also very good and a nice option to other sides. Cream cheese cake for dessert had a good graham cracker crust but was kind of bland to the taste."

  • "I decided on this restaurant for my wife's birthday because she had seemed interested in coming here and from advertizing I have heard. The restaurant is obviously well run and the building itself is very nice. I usually stay away from restaurants that are A la Carte and charge premium $$ for everything. I usually settle on restaurants like The Packing House or Diamond Jim's where you usually get what you pay for but because it was my wife's birthday I over looked it. The prices were steep, $7.50 for a house salad and a soup. Our main entrees, scallops, steak Diane and for my daughter; broasted chicken was nothing special. My wife liked the scallops, but only 4 for $27?."

  • "Food is excellent! But I would like to talk about the service. Everyone from the hostess, bartender, waitress, etc.are so attentive and friendly. You can have good food but the staff can ruin your experience. Not the case here. In fact they heighten it!"

  • "If you're looking for a great, cozy neighborhood restaurant for brunch, you have to give Joey Gerard's a try: you'll be back again! Upon checking in, we were greeted by a friendly staff member who checked us in and said it would be just a moment. And it was just that...a moment. We were quickly seated in a spacious, well light and bustling dining area. The noise level wasn't horrible at all. Upon reviewing the menu, which had many delicious options, we started our brunch off with mimosa's. They were delivered in a timely manner and the waitress kindly asked if we were ready to order....(continued below)"

  • "This was the second time we visited Joey Gerard's but it certainly won't be the last!! My husband and I have been to many steak houses, so-called "supper clubs", etc. during the 32 years we've been together and I must say, Joey Gerard's has been the best one!! I just can't get over how nice and friendly each and every employee that crossed our path was! I just love this place! The food is just delicious, the wine was awesome, the Schaumtorte was fantastic! It was my birthday and everyone from our hostess to our waiter, to the bartender, and even the young man who brought out our relish tray wished me a happy birthday! They were all very sincere, too. Not that phony, baloney "just say it to be nice" business. LOVE IT!!!"

  • "The dining took 1 hour and 50 minutes with the dinner room only 1/3 full. Waitstaff was talking with other customers for over 10 minutes about how much they make pure hour. We timed it because we could hear them and we left unattended for most of the evening. They messed up our dinner order and when they fixed it, did not come back and check how things were since they fixed their problem. Being this is the 3rd time we have been here, we tried again just to see if any thing has changed or would warrant us to come back. For the money spent, I would not see much reason to come back being there is so many other restaurants to choose from."

  • "My husband and I were very pleased with the atmosphere. We have truly missed the traditional "supper club" genre that has long been gone - until now. The décor is outstanding and the background music a sheer joy. It brings back many memories of my parents and the restaurants that they enjoyed and took me to years ago. The food was delicious and prepared to perfection. The menu was wonderful and not too overwhelming. I had the bone-in rib eye and my husband had a filet with scallops. Oftentimes, there are so many choices that a menu can become confusing. We will definitely come back and bring friends and family with us."

  • "I took my sister there for her birthday and she was very pleased with her rib-eye steak and her side of creamed spinach. She said the steak was cooked to perfection with a char on the outside and juicy tenderness the rest of the way. I had ribs that were perfect from subtle barbecue sauce to fall off the bone tenderness. I was somewhat disappointed in that the ribs were served atop a large serving of French fries, I wasn't expecting that, perhaps I misread the menu. The ambiance was just right and not so loud that you could not have a conversation . I also had pre-ordered flowers to the table that were in place when we sat down. The server Heidi was outstanding, attentive, knowledgeable, timely, without being intrusive."

  • "We love Bartolotta restaurants and have been to them all....except Joey Gerard's so we thought we'd give it a try. The atmosphere and service was outstanding, the food...subpar. My husband ordered the beef brisket and it was very fatty and nothing like the brisket we've enjoyed at other restaurants. His potato pancakes didn't taste homemade like the ones we are use to. Our daughters spaghetti was brought to the table warm (at best) with no meat sauce and not much flavor. We would not recommend Joey Gerard's to friends or family."

  • "A birthday dinner turned into the most wonderful evening ever! The wait staff Jody, was very tentative and explained every question we had about the menu items. The best part about the night was when Chef James came out to visit with us at our table. Everything was to our liking and we were in for a great birthday surprise at the end of our dinner. Thank you Joey Gerard's for a memorable birthday!"

  • "The dining room we ate in seemed crowded and noisy. The room reminded us of a cafeteria style eatery. The waiter was pleasant enough and the food was good (not good enough for those prices in my opinion), but it took so long to get the food I think I would have liked anything they put in front of me."

  • "This was our second time dining here and I was pleased yet again. The petite filet was just as delicious as the last time I had it and we tried the broccoli cheese soup this time...delicious! Both times we've dined here with a group so I'm not sure how dining for two would be. The rolls and relish tray are definitely my least favorite. Oh, and beware of the Mai Thai, VERY strong!"

  • "Fun! It was great to reminisce about the old supperclub days with the experience at Joey Gerards's. The relish tray was a fun touch and a nice addition to the bread before dinner. The Old Fashioneds were tastey and a good start to the evening. The caesar salad was nothing special but the french onion soup was quite good. Entrees were pan-fried perch and a petit filet. Both were great tasting and just the right amount that left us a little room for dessert. While the bananas foster was good, the grasshopper was fantastic! Would recommend skipping the traditional desserts and going right to the ice cream drinks! A great way to end the meal. The service was great and very attentive. The noise level was low on a weekday."

  • "We have heard about this restaurant but this was our first visit. From the moment we stepped in the air of the place was casual elegance. You received immediate attention and the staff there was above and beyond friendly. I was impressed that they have Beef Wellington on the menu and admitted to my server that it has been years since I found a place that prepares it where I enjoyed it. They certainly over delivered! I was so very pleased by the entree. The place is truly a supper club and I enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back."

  • "The bar service was good. The dining service was fair at best. Ordered a steak, medium, supposed to be their specialty. Steak was very well done and lacked favor. I couldn't even finish it. Baked potato was OK but I have had better. When I told them about the quality of my steak they gave me a free desert, ordered the carrot cake which is normally my favorite. Again the cake was OK, definitely not great. For the price you would expect great food and service, Joey Gerard's has neither. I had a much better steak and service the night before at Outback for a fraction of the cost."

  • "Great atmosphere & service. Food was fair at best. The best part of the meal was the dessert. We would not go there for a meal again, but it would be a nice place to have a glass of wine in the bar area."

  • "I pointed out to my guest who had never been there that the restaurant had filled up and he didn't even notice. The booths give you the atmosphere to have a meal and conversation without even noticing that others are in the room. He love his whole meal and for someone not big on desserts, he at the whole thing. Thanks for giving him a great 60th BD dinner."

  • "First time dining at Joey Gerard's. What a great time we had. Our server, Kim, was wonderful, and the food was Awesome! One thing that stands out, is that we were not rushed from course to course. We enjoy having time between courses to enjoy the moment, and to just relax. We will definitely choose JG's again in the future!!"
