Diner Reviews
  • "The Bar was great although avoid specialty drinks. Terrific woman bartender - Fun and helpful. Seated 30 minutes after our reservation. Once seated, our server acted bored and offered no suggestions. Motivation was to steer us to higher priced items. Bus service was intrusive and took drinks before done. We ordered Select Stone Claws and received miniature. I eat Stone Crabs a lot (Trulucks and Joes in FL), and the Select ones we received here were the dregs of the barrel. Small, stringy & looked bad. Way overpriced for what we got. Steak & lobster cooked and tasted okay, but a very small rock lobster tail. Key lime pie was the highlight. We were really excited about going and were sorely disappointed. Will not be going again."

  • "Dinner was great, appreciated late hours. Great cocktails."

  • "We were not seated until 45 minutes after our reservation time. Service was so slow that we felt forgotten. A neighboring table required 4 servers for 15 minutes to clean crab legs but we sat for over an hour waiting to have food order taken. Food was good but for prices charged, one expects to be checked on at least once an hour."

  • "We love Joe's, the food is always great and the bread basket is to die for!"

  • "Our waiter was awesome and new the menu to a tee. He recommended some great choices. I was pleased with my meal but some of the food could have used additional seasoning."

  • "What a great find in our nation's capital! Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab is conveniently located, has a diverse menu and a great atmosphere. I took a group of clients for dinner and everyone was very pleased with the service. I will definitely add this to my list of "go-to-restaurants" when entertaining clients or dining with friends."

  • "I cannot stress how delicious the food was. We had a table around 5:30 so it wasn't noisy. The food was AWESOME for how average their prices were. The only caveat is that if you're coming here for dinner, dress up. Their clientele is mostly businessmen/women after work."

  • "Second visit was very enjoyable, as was the first, but I took them down a star on food and service for this reason: stuffy attitude about special requests. The menu is heavy and when I asked that our asparagus side dish sautéed in lemon butter be prepared with olive oil in place of the butter, the waiter seemed to grudgingly agree and then brought out plain steamed asparagus with olive oil on the side, which was ok, but a bit dull. The cod, however, was delicious. Service was previously first rate, so I'm chalking this one up to an inflexible chef or off day for this waiter."

  • "We had a great time at Joes. Many things reminded me of visits to the original in Miami. Large groups are handled really well. Never had it before, but loved the rock crab our server Jose did a great job explaining. I have been going to DC restaurants for years and was excited to see familiar faces in new places, Ryan from Bourbon Steak and Harold from Rogue 24."

  • "As a Miamian, I was reticent about a dillution of a Miami institution from my childhood. This is a DC version, seemingly an old bank building. I liked the terrazo floors, a nod to Miami. I wasn't as crazy about the dining room in the back without natural light but thats me being picky. Food was delicious. Its pricey there but you know that going in so accept it. My key lime pie slice was the size of a 1/2 of piece of pie.I wasn't hungry but it looked paltry. My dining partner loved their shrimp. the restroom on the 2d floor but its an old building (there's an elevator). There was a bit of confusion with my reservation and considering they dont take them in Miami, I was a bit concerned. Overall good experience, could be great."

  • "My dining experience was two fold. The staff and the décor was wonderful. However the seasoning of the food was a little bland. The drinks from the bar were very good. This was my first time, not sure when I will return"

  • "A wonderful addition to the neighborhood! Our fabulous waiter made suggestions that were just perfect."

  • "Excellent execution on entrees of seafoods alas, seared scallops, fisherman's platter and whole Dover sole. The sides of green beans, hash browns and onion strings were all nicely done. However, the biggest disappointment of the evening were the order of select stone crabs. The were very small and unfortunately were shattered into so many pieces we were all picking out hard shells from almost every bite. A very huge disappointment. Very unlike the original Joe' Stone Crabs. It may be not the best season for stone crabs in July, but whatever they serve should be properly cracked without shattering into small shards and pieces that cannot be removed before eating."

  • "I thought this place was going to be better. It looked like a top-notch place......decor is classy......waitstaff, etc. are wearing bow ties. Overall, the food we had was O.....K. I've had better at less pricey places. Fried Oysters were heavy-handed and too breaded. Crab Cakes were falling apart. We weren't warned that the fried chicken could have been split between two people. The service was really slow.....had to ask for empty plates to be removed. I guess I am over the Huge Food At A Big Cost movement. Unimpressive."

  • "Same great quality as Miami's original Joe's Stone Crab, but with improved service (you can reserve, no need to wait for hours to be sat) and equally pricey for top entrees although with more variety of less expensive options."

  • "Joes in DC is a great place for anniversaries or special occasions but is also great just to go and get great food at if your around the White House area. The staff and waiters are amazing and very helpful, don't worry if you haven't ever been to a five star place they treat you like family not like an idiot. They also have great wine and beer selections but if you just want a coke they have that as well. You can also get your leftovers boxed up and take them with you. On my top 5 list of places I've ever been and I will be back again."

  • "I looked forward to dining here as I know there are only two others (Chicago and Vegas). The service was very nice. Our server has been with the company for over 10 years and was very knowledgeable. She told us about the other locations and how the chain began with the Original Joe's in Miami. The ambiance was nice but not what I thought it would be. You can definitely dress up for a nice romantic dinner here, but you will also fit in just fine with khakis and a polo shirt. The food was good but nothing blew me away. I'm not a key lime pie person but I did have a bite of my friend's and it was pretty great. Based on the food, I can't say I'm anxious to get back here."

  • "Both the food and the service are top notch. The staff are so friendly and attentive. Don't miss the stone crab claws as an appetizer and the key lime pie as a dessert. Choose any entrée because you won't be disappointed."

  • "I heard so many great things about Joes. I took my husband there for his birthday dinner. From the atmosphere to the service and food, everything was superior! I only recommend they add a restroom to the bottom floor. Walking upstairs in a pencil skirt was a little hard."

  • "As a life long fan of Joe's Stone Crab in Miami we were very excited to try Joe's in DC. Joe's captured the essence of the DC scene in atmosphere and quality service. The extraordinary menu will keep us coming back! Crabs were out of season but still enjoyable. The filet was out-of-this-world! Thanks for bringing a Miami favorite to the District!"

  • "This was a birthday celebration, but all of us had a limited time to spend at the restaurant. The staff was very responsive to our needs. It makes us want to go back. Many restaurants forget that service is a big part of the experience and Joe's excelled. The food was excellent and we had lots of choices. The space is beautiful and centrally located. The reservation process was easy and facilitated our dining experience. We will return."

  • "I have been coming to DC on business for over 28 years. This year I found Joe's. I thought I had been to all of the best Sea Food restaurant's in DC. My first Joe's experience was in Miami. Then in Vegas. Now DC. I definitely will be back. First class service, atmosphere and definitely food. Can you come to Memphis?"

  • "Each time the food and service have been exceptional. This was my husband's first visit. Watching him savor the flavors of the King crab legs, the snow crabs and then his steak made me smile. He's already talking about when are we going back. Excellent!"

  • "LOVE this restaurant! My experience was great. I selected this restaurant for a 40th birthday dinner. The host (David) was pleasant, attentive and provided recommendations. I ordered the spinach stuffed mushrooms (out of this world), crab cakes and sweet potatoes with praline pecan butter. This is a hidden jewel and I will be recommending this restaurant to my friends. I will be back!"

  • "The soft shell crab appetizer was superb--lightly coated in something, then deep-fried for maybe 10 seconds. The Pacific Stone Crab main course also great. They were out of the Gulf crabs. The well-trained waitress was knowledgable and enthusiastic. Strongly recommend!"

  • "This restaurant has been leveraging the original Florida Joe's for a long time. The ambiance and service is pretentious but I'm sure tourists are impressed. Pace was glacial. You're going to spend a lot of money here and there are many better steak houses and seafood restaurants. Lettuce Entertainment Restaurants are normally better than this."

  • "This is the best seafood restaurant in DC. The food, the service, the attention to detail, the ambiance, the server, the maître de and the location all combine to make this my number one favorite place to dine."

  • "Celebrated wedding anniversary and couldn't have found a better place. We noted on our Open Table reservation that this was a special night and restaurant staff repetitively wished us well (so nice!!). Our server, Dell, was amazing! He made food and drink recommendations - all were spot on. The Chilean Sea Bass; Medium Stone Crabs; Roasted Corn; Fried asparagus; and, Pimm's Cup (mixed drink) were outstanding. Dell delighted us by treating us to three - yes, THREE - of his favorite desserts and a champagne toast in honor of our anniversary. It really made an already perfect experience over the top. I am such a fan. LOVED IT!"

  • "We went here for the first night of our trip based on the reviews, and it did not disappoint. The food was very good but what made it great was the service. Everyone was friendly and our waiter was phenomenal. Even the management was nice. We had ordered an appetizer and the manager came over to tell us it was not available anymore. Instead of asking if we wanted something else, he offered a free substitute instead. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys quality food and service. Also, try the Havana pie dessert."
