  • "First time.....needed a dinner spot after business meeting...........a local recommended Joe's ! Made reservations........had to change the time....not a problem........handled quickly and friendly....got there late one person short, frazzled, still not a problem, waiter was attentive, light touch, humorous, suggested specials.......... food was fresh, different takes on classics and some new things to try. A good time was had by all."

  • "Food is always great at Joe's, but the menu does not change very much. It is one of the best restaurants for lunch during the week. It was very quiet this Thursday where we celebrated a friend's birthday. The food was very good and looked great. I'd like to come for dinner, but the noise level is unbearable, and I like to chat with my accompanying friends."

  • "Joe's has been around for 23 years. Not a lot of LA restaurants can say that. The place started off on a shoestring and has expanded over the years. Joe is still there overseeing the kitchen and greeting guests. The food is straightforward, fresh and occasionally innovative (not a contradiction). Nice small wine list. Very reasonable prices for the quality. And pretty much full on a Tuesday!"

  • "This was our first time at Joe's Restaurant - we had heard many great things about the food and wanted to try it. We were not disappointed. Our server was very knowledgeable and all of our dishes were extremely well made."

  • "As 1 of the Abbot Kinney's best and oldest it was sad to see uneven service and mediocre food this past Saturday night. Salmon too salty, ribs tough & chewy & lamb bland. My 2nd so so meal in two attempts - too many other places to try - won't be coming back, at least for awhile."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised that the menu had Crawfish on it. The spice amount was perfect ( I could taste the kick but did not need grab my drink.)"

  • "Kaitlyn, our server was very nice and attentive. I didn't think the food was up to par today. This is the only time I've had a meal that I didn't just absolutely love. They were out one of the appetizers and I order the pea soup which I thought would be hot, but it was a cold soup, but not real cold, not my favorite. However, Joe's is a wonderful restaurant and I will continue to dine there."

  • "We've dined here several times before and should've written a review sooner. This time there were 7 of us and all enjoyed their meal. The appetizers-rock shrimp crab cake and calamari presentation was perfect and tasted great. We enjoyed the cheese board so much we ordered a second one! Due to so many appetizers there were only two salads ordered. Both had all kinds of goodies in them and enjoed. We went on Sunday and the chef prepares bbq dishes on Sundays. Four of us had bbq pork sliders and an amazing rib dish with rave reviews. Also ordered was sea bream, jidori chicken and flat iron steak-all perfectly prepared. Then we had 3 wonderful desserts shared by all. The whole evening was perfect. Perfectly prepared food in a great place..."

  • "Dinner at Joe's Saturday night, terribly disappointing and underwhelming with the exception of the service which was excellent all around (warm, friendly hostess. Capable and knowledgable servers and bussers). Food we had at a tasting for an event many months ago - for the most part - was very good although nothing outstanding. However, dinner was sub-par and disappointing. Rock shrimp/Crab Cake was okay, but nothing special. Dinner was bland/unenticing. Lots of tone on tone colors so nothing was enticing as far as the visual palate (e.g. pink salmon on brown tabouleh with brown sauce). Sea bass dish was slightly better. 2nd glass of wine was watered down, but was replaced promptly when we mentioned something. Would not come back."

  • "We have party of 4, including a 8 year old, he probably is the one enjoy the food the most. We took advantage of joe’s famous prix fixe special: choose a starter, entree & dessert for $23! For the 8 year old, he has Albacore Ceviche as the starter, which looks pretty decent, Steelhead Salmon as entree, Dulcey Caramel Ganache as desert, and he finished everything. I have tried Grilled Flat Iron Steak, it is OK and average. However, we love the Chocolate Crunch Cake, it is pretty amazing. Overall, the dining experience is pretty good, but not outstanding, shall I say."

  • "From start to finish the experience was, as usual, terrific. The tasting menu was outstanding and each of the entrees likewise. One guest had the chickpea vegetarian dish which was perfect, the sea bream was excellent and the halibut off the charts. The desserts were likewise excellent as was the tuna sashimi, the lamb and the zucchini soup. Plus, with the Tuesday no corkage, it's a great value. Highly recommended."

  • "I expected something special from a restaurant ranked by LA Magazine as one of top 75 for 2014. Brunch choices were neither inspired nor comfort food. Crab hash was light on crab. Brunch cocktails... meh, but pricey."

  • "The decor and ambiance is very pretty here. The food is satisfactory. Nothing super amazing. The ingredients are fresh, the bread a bit heavy, but it's nothing that many decent restaurants on Abbot Kinney can't give you. I wish there were more wine choices-Joe's private label tells me nothing about where the grapes were grown and who the winery is that made it."

  • "Loved the halibut. Always a great meal. Chicken also excellent"

  • "The food and service were excellent. The bream covered with nuts in the form of fish scales and the jidori chicken were delicious and presented beautifully. The meal was worth the price charged."

  • "We started the event with a quick warm greeting at the door, then attentive service, good creative selections on the menu and delightful choices for desert. An extremely pleasant experience for our family gathering in celebration of my wife's birthday. We've some picky eaters, but one and all cleaned their plates. Polite smart, attentive service, our waitress knew the menu well and made good recommendations. All in all a highly recommended locale for our event.."

  • "The waiter kept pouring flat water into the sparkling. The yellow tail was over cooked and had way too much "blood meat." I sent the yellow tail back and switched it for lobster risotto. The lobster was partially raw. Overall a disappointing experience. Have been here several times in the past and was never disappointed like this time."

  • "I am long time Venice resident and have always appreciated Joe's. Our meal there Saturday night was not up to par. The Tuna Sashimi tartar was fair but over dressed. The crab/shrimp cake was cold in the middle. We sent it back, and the next one was cold. The Halibut also came to us cold. None of it had the quality expected, especially at the price point. Disappointing"

  • "We had a high quality lunch at a reasonable price at Joe's in Venice."

  • "A yummy lunch, and the three-course offering was a bargain. The shrimp risotto was very tasty, as was the hamachi crudo and mango dessert. The front dining room looks a bit tired."

  • "We always enjoy eating at Joe's. The menu is ever changing and always creative. Joe's never disappoints, and we find ourselves choosing to go there every chance we get."

  • "Having been to Joe's in the past but not for some time, we decided to go for Father's Day. The overall experience was not good at all. The only option was a prix fix menu although we were not alerted that this was the only option. Even checked website. The service was up to standard but the food was very disappointing. Nothing stood out, some food was cold, portions were quite small and not one item was noteworthy..we ordered a wide sampling-Duck sausage, crab cake, sea bass, ribs, steak Sadly, a very disappointing experience on a special day all for $400."

  • "Joe's had a special prix fixe menu for Father's Day. It was excellent - food and service were both terrific. The price was also very high, even for Father's Day. We'd never been to Joe's for brunch, only for dinner, but we'll be back for both."

  • "We've eaten at Joe's several times. This was among our best experiences, service, neighboring patrons, food, cocktails, wine . . . Particularly special was our server's wine recommendation. She knew exactly the type of pinot we were describing. We trusted her wine choice & it proved to be exactly what we had in mind to complement the beautifully prepared duck we both ordered. The martinis & ahi crudo before dinner were also an especially good pairing. Gorgeous meal, wonderful evening."

  • "We had very good service. The oyster bar was tempting, and we ordered several rounds. Rabbit was very well prepared and tender. Street parking in area is very limited, but there is a valet lot behind the restaurant. Our party was four, and everyone enjoyed their food."

  • "Joe's never disappoints from their food to their service! Brought two "newbies" on this visit and they were both raving about the halibut and the service. Abbot Kinney is a happening spot in Venice and Joe's is the best."

  • "Excellence in all regards. Of particular note are the three wines by the glass we selected: 2012 Chateau du Beau Soleil -- Muscadet Sevre & Maine, 2012 Mocali -- Rosso di Montalcino -- Sangiovese, Italy, and 2012 Chateau Le Puy -- Du des Nauves -- Cotes de Bordeaux. Each was exquisite and well accompanied the fine food that was served."

    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "The price has gone up a few dollars, but the 3-course lunch chosen from any menu items remains one of the best deals in town. We had a lovely table alongside the trickling waterfall and received super service. We want to try some of the interesting cocktails sometime soon when we're not driving!"

  • "Joe's is an institution with a long-established and well-deserved reputation for interesting food beautifully prepared. The inside dining room is quiet and slightly formal, a respite for adults who want to relish an evening of audible conversation and delectable cuisine.Portions are sizeable; indeed, the five course $48.00 prix fixe, while outstanding in every way, goes overboard on volume. Service is VERY attentive and can border on the overbearing. The wait staff is proud of the place and lets you know it."

  • "Outstanding service. (blonde pretty actress- you know your name) Wine list is fairly extensive and extremely well priced- not the usual double retail. Had app. zucchini flowers stuffed with shrimp quenelle then tempura fried over artichoke puree and side pesto- wish I had ordered three and made it dinner. Lamp perfectly done, duck fat fired potato. Skipped desert and had a cheese plate and some tawny port - A tremendous evening"

  • "We love Joe's ... I have written many, many positive things over the years. One negative though is too much pork and pickled things and not enough change to the menu. "

  • "I've been dining at Joe's for years, and it's always great. For me, it's the perfect place to take guests from out of town. And I love it for a quiet weeknight dinner as well."

  • "I'd be back at least once a week! We were in Venice for two nights; the first night we had a reservation, the second night we honestly tried to find a different restaurant in the neighborhood, but they were all noisy, with loud bars and music. So we landed back at Joe' for another great dinner. The menu was slightly different, so my project of coming back if I lived here would be eminently feasible! Very fresh food, not over-decorated or painted plates."

  • "The food was delicious and the service impeccable. The pre fixe is a great deal at $23 for three courses. The flat iron steak over purple potato purée with broccolini was a visual and culinary treat. Can't wait to go back!"
