Diner Reviews
  • "And we will be back! Went this past Sunday night. An older crowd - fine by me. A quieter evening to go - also fine by me. Sat in the back area. Lovely space, lovely food and the service could not have been better. Our server, Allyson, was so sweet and helpful. For all you chocoholics: if you are deciding between the choc bread pudding and the choc crunch cake - we had both. Crunch cake had a more intense chocolate taste."

  • "As usual, Joe's offers great food, attentive service, and a pleasing ambiance. I often meet friends for brunch or dinner and it is always a wonderful experience. Would recommend Joe's to everyone!"

  • "This is a terrific restaurant with great menu items. The waitress was very helpful and right there for us. It certainly was noisy, but the food was delicious."

  • "Comfortable indoor dining with large windows. Service staff is very attentive and their knowledge of menu items is excellent. The tasting menu is generous. You won't be disappointed."

  • "We had lunch on Friday. The food was wonderful and the service was great. The peach tart was what dessert should be."
    Dined on 8/22/2014
  • "Taste of food was very ordinary. Living in East Asia, the Thai curry was badly spiced with atypical flavor. The pecan pie desert was the best part of the meal"

  • "The food here is not that great and the service horrible."
    Dined on 8/20/2014
  • "Excellent food for gourmets, but I found the menu choices a bit limited for non-gourmets like myself. The patio noise level was okay at 6PM but by 8PM was a problem for normal conversation."
    Dined on 8/20/2014
  • "This is our second visit here and we enjoyed the meal so much more becuase we ordered great food but just drank one beer so we didnt get stung on the wine! Sorted! Service was excellent and food delicious."

  • "I had the opportunity to go to a private dinner where Joe Miller was the celebrity chef. However, this was my first time at his restaurant. I took a client there and all five of us loved the food and the service. We were there on Tues. night and I brought two bottles of very good wine, fully expecting to pay corkage…corkage was free on Tues. That was just the icing on the cake for a very creative menu where everything we ordered was well conceived, well executed and served in a timely and professional manner. I highly recommend Joe's Restaurant in Venice."

  • "Food was good but below my expectations. I had expected a food fit for a foodie and go just a good meal."

  • "We've been to Joe's Restaurant for special occasions over the past ten years or so, and the dining experience is always superb. The food is as beautiful on the plate as it is delicious on the palate, and the service is always outstanding."

  • "This time we were sadly disappointed in our server. She did not seem to hear anything we ordered. the service was very slow and when after 30 minutes no food came, we asked again and she seemed not to think there was anything wrong. Meanwhile people seated after us were eating. Food should not take 3 1/2 hours to serve. Still it's our neighborhood gem and we love Joe. We will be back. Brunch maybe next time."

  • "The food here is outstanding! The recent experience was brunch, eggs Benedict with smoked trout was the best EB I've had. And bottomless mimosas. Great waitstaff and service."
    Dined on 8/10/2014
  • "As usual, brunch menu was really disappointing and unimaginative...cold food, flies from open front door...under done quiche...how can you call a dish hash, when it isn't hash at all...love this place for lunch and dinner, but, will never go for brunch again. Staff was wonderful and took two ice cold pancake entrees off the bill+ small discount...will always come for other meals, but, never brunch. Think chef needs to rethink menu here...could do a real corned beef hash with eggs on top....a good eggs Benedict....pancakes should be made to order, not heated up from a warming oven...stick to basics for breakfast dishes and it would be safer. Be seeing you, but, not for brunch."

  • "This is what you get when the chef runs the restaurant and is there every night...the food is superb, always new based on the best ingredients available and just delightful. The wine list is filled with delicious wines at prices that allow you to enjoy them - something more places should do. Kudos, Joe's - still amazing after all these years in Venice!"

  • "First, the team of people who provided service was exceptional: the server herself, and just as important, each of the people who assisted by bringing our food, bread, water, clearing dishes; they were friendly and professional and knew what they were doing. The bread was very good, the heirloom tomato salad was good, but unfortunately the entrees, salmon and snapper, were mediocre. The fish was on the verge of mushiness and the flavor just okay. I was hoping for a nice dinner with a visiting friend, and wish I had chosen a different restaurant."

  • "As usual, Joe's came through with a wonderful bargain of a prix fixe lunch that was delicious, beautifully presented and thoroughly appreciated. Margareta's service was superb!"

  • "I had been going to Joe's for years, most frequently for lunch. After a long hiatus, a move from the neighborhood, I returned for lunch with friends. Many of my favorite menu items were still there. Over the years, I've tried them all. I can honestly say that there is nothing on the menu I don't like. The food is fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. My friends and I have always had a great meal here."

  • "Had friends visiting from the U.K, passing through for just one night..they wanted good, chill place to catch up and eat before driving to the Bay Area. None of us were disappointed. The food, wine, and atmosphere was top notch"

  • "We've been to Joe's many times over the years, and always enjoyed our meal, but found our recent experience disappointing. The entre was cold & one had pepper in it, when we'd requested NO pepper or hot spices. We probably will not return."

  • "We were visiting from out of town and made a reservation for dinner on a recommendation from a friend. It was every bit as good as she claimed. Everything about Joe's was very good and I highly recommend it! Joe's doesn't have a fancy façade, so don't drive by and think it wouldn't be a good choice for dining. If you do, you will miss out on a delicious dining experience!"

  • "First time.....needed a dinner spot after business meeting...........a local recommended Joe's ! Made reservations........had to change the time....not a problem........handled quickly and friendly....got there late one person short, frazzled, still not a problem, waiter was attentive, light touch, humorous, suggested specials.......... food was fresh, different takes on classics and some new things to try. A good time was had by all."

  • "Food is always great at Joe's, but the menu does not change very much. It is one of the best restaurants for lunch during the week. It was very quiet this Thursday where we celebrated a friend's birthday. The food was very good and looked great. I'd like to come for dinner, but the noise level is unbearable, and I like to chat with my accompanying friends."

  • "Joe's has been around for 23 years. Not a lot of LA restaurants can say that. The place started off on a shoestring and has expanded over the years. Joe is still there overseeing the kitchen and greeting guests. The food is straightforward, fresh and occasionally innovative (not a contradiction). Nice small wine list. Very reasonable prices for the quality. And pretty much full on a Tuesday!"

  • "This was our first time at Joe's Restaurant - we had heard many great things about the food and wanted to try it. We were not disappointed. Our server was very knowledgeable and all of our dishes were extremely well made."

  • "As 1 of the Abbot Kinney's best and oldest it was sad to see uneven service and mediocre food this past Saturday night. Salmon too salty, ribs tough & chewy & lamb bland. My 2nd so so meal in two attempts - too many other places to try - won't be coming back, at least for awhile."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "I was pleasantly surprised that the menu had Crawfish on it. The spice amount was perfect ( I could taste the kick but did not need grab my drink.)"

  • "Kaitlyn, our server was very nice and attentive. I didn't think the food was up to par today. This is the only time I've had a meal that I didn't just absolutely love. They were out one of the appetizers and I order the pea soup which I thought would be hot, but it was a cold soup, but not real cold, not my favorite. However, Joe's is a wonderful restaurant and I will continue to dine there."

  • "We've dined here several times before and should've written a review sooner. This time there were 7 of us and all enjoyed their meal. The appetizers-rock shrimp crab cake and calamari presentation was perfect and tasted great. We enjoyed the cheese board so much we ordered a second one! Due to so many appetizers there were only two salads ordered. Both had all kinds of goodies in them and enjoed. We went on Sunday and the chef prepares bbq dishes on Sundays. Four of us had bbq pork sliders and an amazing rib dish with rave reviews. Also ordered was sea bream, jidori chicken and flat iron steak-all perfectly prepared. Then we had 3 wonderful desserts shared by all. The whole evening was perfect. Perfectly prepared food in a great place..."

  • "Dinner at Joe's Saturday night, terribly disappointing and underwhelming with the exception of the service which was excellent all around (warm, friendly hostess. Capable and knowledgable servers and bussers). Food we had at a tasting for an event many months ago - for the most part - was very good although nothing outstanding. However, dinner was sub-par and disappointing. Rock shrimp/Crab Cake was okay, but nothing special. Dinner was bland/unenticing. Lots of tone on tone colors so nothing was enticing as far as the visual palate (e.g. pink salmon on brown tabouleh with brown sauce). Sea bass dish was slightly better. 2nd glass of wine was watered down, but was replaced promptly when we mentioned something. Would not come back."

  • "We have party of 4, including a 8 year old, he probably is the one enjoy the food the most. We took advantage of joe’s famous prix fixe special: choose a starter, entree & dessert for $23! For the 8 year old, he has Albacore Ceviche as the starter, which looks pretty decent, Steelhead Salmon as entree, Dulcey Caramel Ganache as desert, and he finished everything. I have tried Grilled Flat Iron Steak, it is OK and average. However, we love the Chocolate Crunch Cake, it is pretty amazing. Overall, the dining experience is pretty good, but not outstanding, shall I say."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "From start to finish the experience was, as usual, terrific. The tasting menu was outstanding and each of the entrees likewise. One guest had the chickpea vegetarian dish which was perfect, the sea bream was excellent and the halibut off the charts. The desserts were likewise excellent as was the tuna sashimi, the lamb and the zucchini soup. Plus, with the Tuesday no corkage, it's a great value. Highly recommended."

  • "I expected something special from a restaurant ranked by LA Magazine as one of top 75 for 2014. Brunch choices were neither inspired nor comfort food. Crab hash was light on crab. Brunch cocktails... meh, but pricey."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "The decor and ambiance is very pretty here. The food is satisfactory. Nothing super amazing. The ingredients are fresh, the bread a bit heavy, but it's nothing that many decent restaurants on Abbot Kinney can't give you. I wish there were more wine choices-Joe's private label tells me nothing about where the grapes were grown and who the winery is that made it."
