It is always good to see some of the same faces as when I worked there years ago. The food is one of the best in the country. I recently moved into the area and had not been to Joe's for years. It is still as good as it was when I worked there. The tuna tartar appetizer still the best I have had anywhere!! The mushroom raviolis are unbelievable and the fish and meat dishes we had where a true delight. I always recommend Joe's to anyone asking me where to dine in Venice. I was so delighted to see Joe cooking!! He has always been very hands on and I think this is the reason for the quality of the food being so high... However, the last two times I have gone to Joe's the service was not as I would expected from such a notable restaurant. I had reservations at noon, the doors were not unlocked until 12:07, so my friend and I stood waiting outside for 10 minutes. Since it was during the lunch hour, I was surprised by the relaxed pace of the service. While the waitperson was perfectly pleasant, the food service was very slow and we had to take our desert to go. I put my panna cotta t in the freezer when I got home, it was still worth the wait. The food is always first rate, the service usually good tho' sometimes a bit haphazard, the wine list interesting. We noticed they've added valet parking ($6) for Joe's & 2 other restaurants on the block, which can be a great boon in this neighborhood which is nearly always parked solid. The one thing that rather disappointed us is that when we arrived--well before opening time, to be sure (we weren't aware that our 6pm reservation coincided with their opening time)--there was no place to sit while we waited for the door to be unlocked, & we had an out-of-town guest with us who had foot problems. The food is just outstanding, with unique and delicious combinations. We had the Black Grouper and Salmon dishes on the current menu, both superb. Service is attentive and smooth as usual. We don't usually opt for dessert but decided to try a few. Highly recommend the coconut panna cotta with house made lime sorbet. Worth the calories! My only ding on the rating for ambience comes from how incredibly warm it was inside the restaurant on Saturday afternoon. We were sweating at our window-side table. The place was packed and it was an un-seasonably hot day, but it was noticeably toasty in the restaurant - upping the air would have gone a long way for our comfort.

Sit in the room for good people-watching, good art & warm lighting. Sit on the patio for a bit lower noise level & a slightly more casual feel. There's a lovely, small bar in the front, too.
Something for everyone on the menu while keeping the selection tight enough that mediocrity doesn't creep in.
On this Wednesday night, the restaurant was full at 7:45 so the two waiters were a bit busy, but still attentive & personable.
