We were lucky to have booked this reservation on open table. Westlake Joes is an institution -- a real neighborhood gem with great old fashioned Italian food @ great prices. It is closing for good on Jan 26 -- we are so very sad to see it go. It will be taken over by John Duggan of Original Joes. Original Joes is a nice place, but it has lost its way in that it used to be in the tenderloin -- it remodeled big time & has a prime North Beach location now. Original joes may be taking it over, but what money can not buy is the old time feeling & vibe Westlake Joes has given its customers. Sometimes a Restaurant does not need to be gorgeous for customers to want to be there. Thank you Westlake Joes for your many years of serving happy customers.

For a party of eight seated right next to one of the kitchen doors, it was awfully hard to get our server's attention. It took over 30 minutes from the time we were seated to when she took our orders (we had been ready to order for at least 15 minutes). She did apologize and explained that it was because she was also responsible for taking care of some to-go orders, so I don't necessarily blame this poor service on her. The House needs to do a better job of ensuring proper service at all levels, to all patrons. Regardless of who was to blame, we the diners (and it was not just my party that seemed annoyed at the slow service) suffered for it. The food is okay, if not too greasy.

We've been going to Westlake Joe's for years. You can see several generations of families out to dinner at any given time. Unfortunately, Joe's will be closing at the end of January to be remodeled and updated. I hope that when it reopens, it will be as good as Westlake Joe's was.

Myself and a lot of other people I know were saddened to hear that Westlake Joe's will be closing at the end of January, but I was pleased to hear that the Original Joe's family would be taking it over and giving it a much needed facelift! An end of an era for sure, but they did such a fabulous job with their new North Beach location that I know they will do a bang-up job with this Joe's. The food here is decent, not great, and our service was a bit frosty (though we really didn't expect anything less!), but efficient. I hope they keep all the staff here and I look forward to coming back to the new and improved Joe's!

It is The Last Supper! It was just like old times! Everything was great. We ordered Veal Parmesan, chicken parmesan, chicken piccata, caesar salad, spaghetti n meatball, chicken marsala, and steak a la bruno. Everything was the way we remembered. Service was great. The waiter we had was one I remember from 25 yrs ago! We will miss Joe's when it closes. My only hope is that the remodel/renovation will be the only change & Original Joe's owners won't change the menu!

Had Christmas dinner at this restaurant. Waitress wasn't very friendly. Service could have been better. Add to that the rowdy people in the booth next to us distracted from the ambience for sure. This place is closing for renovations in 2014, hopefully it comes back a better restaurant .

i have been coming to joe's of westlake since 1986 when i was a student at the nearby sfsu. no other restaurant has ever come close to matching the taste and quality of joe's veal parm and raviolis. i have tried other pastas and sandwiches, all of 'em tasty, but i love the parm and ravs. it's total comfort food for me. i'll miss this wonderful institution and no visit to sf will ever be complete once joe's closes its doors. :(

This was a flashback to my childhood...a good one and the food was great. I was surprised that Joe's still had its mojo, but hear that it's changing owners and this, too, will be lost forever. Until then, don't miss the tasty traditional food, service like your professional waiter/uncle would give you, and a lively atmosphere like being at a big (happy) family gathering. Thanks for the memories Saturday night.

I have been going to Joe's of Westlake for over 50 years. I have had many celebrations at the restaurant and have always been happy with everything. But...now that the restaurant is closing and changing hands, they are already skimping on things. No more cloth napkins! We were only given little skimpy paper napkins (like cocktail napkins) for dinner. Portions were also skimpy and they had no raviolis. The wait staff seems sad and rightly so. I have seen what the new owners did to the Joe's in North Beach and I will never go to that Joe's again. North Beach is overpriced for food and drink. The beauty of Westlake Joe's was that the portions are generous and the pricing fair for both food and drink. It will be sad to see the restaurant close.

My parents took me here the day I turned one. Have the pix. Got a booking for the last night. The food's what it's always been - never a favorite of true gourmands. Their filet of sole and chicken parmigiana the atomic clock by which my palate has been calibrated since the '60s - service as good as can expect. Tomorrow won't be perfect. Place has been a zoo, only normal that the staff preoccupied with figuring out where their next paycheck is coming from. If all goes according to plan ordering enough food to get to Wednesday and hope the kitchen can do it, going to order one glass of house red too many, and I'm going to tip well. And then I'm going to wake up the next morning with one small piece of my life cut off forever.

Great neighborhood restaurant. A landmark. The food is always good and very reasonable. Joes has a very diverse menu that meets the needs of most visitors. I've been eating here for over 50 years. The one-year hiatus will have an impact on the regulars. Hopefully the renovation will keep some of the Westlake (Daly City) feel and the menu.

We had reservations for 5:15pm for this past Saturday night and we weren't called until 6:00pm. Normally, we wouldn't mind the wait, but we had show tickets and needed to be on schedule. Unfortunately, the food and service wasn't worth the wait. The food was just OK. My husband was expecting cheese ravioli, but it came with meat. We waited about 15 minutes for the waiter to pass our table again so we can ask for refills on our drinks and then waited another 10 minutes for our check after we requested it. In summary, not a good dinner and we were late for the show!

Our party of five enjoyed the large booth in the corner of the restaurant after a little wait. The prime rib and steak were cooked to perfection. The spaghetti was OK. And the two orders of veal Parmesan were cooked well other than it was oily on the bottom. The ravioli that came with it were lukewarm. Service was not as attentive, we had to ask for our glasses of water and iced tea to be refilled.

I have been to restaurants with sticky tables and have dealt with rude waiters/waitresses. But never have I had such a horrible experience with service. If we didn't flag down the waiter, he probably would've never taken our order (which probably would have been better than the result)! We then proceeded to sit there for fifteen minutes, then half an hour, an hour. No waiter returned to our table, and no food ever arrived. The only attentive person was the busboy that kept refilling our water glasses. We finally tracked the waiter down again and told him we wanted the food to go. Another twenty minutes were spent waiting for our to-go boxes. I wouldn't recommend dining in here. Get the stuff to go. Because honestly, the food is to die for.

Cannot fully express how happy my husband & I are after having Joe's of Westlake. We were recommended this by our friend in Sacramento where we live, as he used to live in the Bay Area. Not knowing what to expect, but very excited all day, we were over the moon with the whole experience. Food amazing, service stellar, and watching the chefs cook from our table was perfect! The place was packed and alive!! We were sadded that the hostess told us that Joe's is closing in January, because we want to come back.

Yes this 57year old Place is a true gem and has been used in my family for ever it seems. Old school fashion with waiters in bow tie tux's lots of FRESH SAN FRANCISCO FRENCH BREAD the way its supposed to be not the here's 3 pieces for your table of 5. As with the Italian's that I grew up with in San Francisco you will never leave the table wanting to go to Mc Donald to stop and fill the empty hole in your stomach. I hope the new owners keep this on for the next 57 years.

I dined with family at Westlake Joe's to celebrate my hubby's birthday. I'm glad I made reservations - it's a popular place! Plenty of old-style character and charm (lots of regulars, older diners & families). The place has been around so long, it's hip with that fun & cool 1960's vibe! We sat in the 'aquarium room' - quieter than the main dining room. The service was good and attentive. Unfortunately, the food is lacking. Not the place to go for fresh & flavorful dishes. Raviolis were mushy & tasteless! Chicken dry & overcooked. The highlight is the flaming cream dessert! Dramatic! Still, it is a fun place to go for the ambience, if you are into a retro dining experience!
