Live jazz evenings in the classic bar, sometimes a fireplace lit on chilly evenings. Good for a crowd, for odd times, just for two. When we are wrung out, it's restorative. Classic old fashioned real restaurant with booths, waiters in real waiter suits (all men, though? maybe not into waitstaff diversity? I'm not sure). But four of us had a wonderful dinner, gargantuan portions. A very popular place, crowds out the door. Reservations highly recommended, and easy to do online. I like the unpretentious, non hipster aspect, just real people,not poseurs. Weird 50's decor, I think it's original, not retro. We nabbed a table at the bar for about 20 minutes while waiting for dinner seating, and had choice of two sports tv's up on the wall, with a live small jazz combo played nice music. Pricey, but huge portions, so we all took about half home. The portion was huge, although the meat sauce from the spaghetti was oily. Everything still tasted very good. For the chicken parmagiania, I wish we didn't have to choose between a pasta and vegetables. Most other restaurants (if not all that I've been to) give you both.
My husband ordered the hamburger. Portion was also huge, but there were no vegetables (the typical lettuce, tomato, pickle) with the burger either.
Service was good.
