Diner Reviews
  • "Everything about this restaurant shows a seasoned crew is behind the work of this place. Consistently great food, excellent service and good price points for a high-quality product. And a plus is that it is on scenic Newbury Street. This is why I keep coming back to Joe's over and over again."

  • "Was on time for reservation. Hostess said would be a few minutes they were setting up our table for eight. 30 minutes later I checked back with same hostess and she said, will be a few minutes they were setting up table. I checked back 20 minutes later same hostess lied again for third time and said, will be a few minutes they were setting up the table. We left then and had a great meal at a neighboring restaurant."

  • "This location provides consistent good quality food and service. It is a nice step up from the national chains without being too expensive."

  • "The restaurant is good. However when I made the reservation I asked for a surprise bday cake and the waiter never brought it."

  • "Got to Joes on a rainy night around 6 pm. Back dining area only 1/2 full.... Service was very good. Meals were ok, nothing special. The macaroni with bacon was not worth the money.... Fish tacos and wings were good. I had the full rack of ribs... Not very hot... But wasn't about to send them back."

  • "We have been going to Joe's for years and their burgers were always consistently outstanding. However, this time going to Joe's in Boston, the burgers are just on par with any other burger joint out there. The quality of the meat and rolls are not there anymore. Very disappointing when you look forward to a great burger."

  • "Honestly I was a little applauded because this used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The quality has dropped. My Ahi Tuna salad was NOT good. I would much rather go across the street and have the Ahi Tuna salad at Stephanie's. Not to mention we made a reservation and we had to wait another 15mins on top of our reservation. They threw us in the smaller dining room behind the bar and served us dinner while they were picking up crumbs and setting up for the next group. It was a terrible setting. I want my money back."

  • "The bread is amazing. My son had chili in a bread bowl and a chicken breast sandwich. I had a Cobb salad. It was all delicious. Joe's is in a perfect location to walk around Boston after your meal."

  • "Good food, great beer, love the location. Joe's is great for just having a relaxing time with friends over a few drinks and some good food."

  • "we went for fathers day. The food has really gone down hill here. For a seared ahi salad, the tuna was cold (not recently seared). Iceberg lettuce... the whole meal was lack luster. The fish tacos were also flavorless. The server never asked if we wanted any of their fresh bread. I won't be going back."

  • "The service was exceptional. I would have given the food 5 stars if the sweet potato fries been hot. They had obviously been sitting for a while. The bread, on the other hand, was warm and wonderful."

  • "We had to wait 30min past our reservation however as soon as we sat down, the manager came over with 3 appetizers on the house and came back with a gluten free appetizer for my friend that was allergic. Waitress and food were great and left there very happy."

  • "This was an excellent choice for a restaurant. I wanted to surprise my girlfriend with a dinner date after prom. I don't live in Boston so i went out on a limb when choosing this place. The price was just right and the food was amazing, especially the crab cake! Went around 11:30 and were done by closing time so everything went perfectly. Definitely recommended."

  • "Six of us had lunch before a Red Sox game. We had 2 kids with us and were able find plenty that they enjoyed. A bit pricey, but this is on Newbury St in Boston so not out of the ordinary for the area. Our server was terrific, but it was very fast. We were in and out in an hour. Would have been nice to be a bit more leisurely as it seemed like we were rushed through. Will go back."

  • "My mom and sister were in town and I wasn't sure where to take them. I made a reservation and got placed in the outside section. They really enjoyed the scenery and view of Newbury st. The food was good, enjoyable but nothing very fancy."

  • "Consistently performs up to my expectations. Nothing outstanding about the place or food, but located in a good spot and just an enjoyable ambience."

  • "We've been going here for years when visiting Boston. They had plenty of decent food and drinks before the Red Sox game. Our waitress was the best! She was very happy to take care of us and made sure that we had everything that we wanted. "

  • "It was so nice to get a reservation at one of my favorite places. Joe's always has great food, an awesome atmosphere and good service. Our waitress was great and it was truly a wonderful mother's day experience. "

  • "My teenage granddaughter is a Celiac and they said they could make almost anything on the menu gluten-free. They even had GF rolls for her instead of us eating the bread while she just watched. It is nice to be able to go with the family and know everyone can enjoy a good meal. Service was excellent, food was great, a bit noisy but it was very busy in Boston. Glad we made reservations as there would have been a wait, even at 1:30 in the afternoon. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "the oinion soup was terrible. I have had it before and it comes in a nice crock with the cheese dark and melted. This time it came in a bowl with hardly any cheese. Go back to the old way!"

  • "I've been to Joe's on several occasions and there's always something good on the menu that I haven't had before. The ribs are supreme as are all the pasta dishes. I am especially a big fan of the Spinach and Artichoke dip appetizer. It is made perfectly! I would highly recommend stopping by sometime for a visit. "

  • "We booked Joe's for a post-graduation dinner for about 25 people and it was the perfect solution. They seated us at two large tables in the back section of the main dining room, and there was room to move around between the tables and noisy enough so that we weren't disturbing anyone. The food was excellent, and our servers were great. We even went back (with 9 people) for brunch the next day and that was delicious too. Thank you Joe's for making it easy!"

  • "Close to the finish, great for a big group (if you can squeeze in!), great food, great beer/drink selection! Had a fantastic time dining/drinking/and talking about the marathon with friends. Will absolutely return!"

  • "Our group always looks forward to dinner at Joe's after running the Boston Marathon. Even though Patriot's Day was more crowded than ever, and very challenging on rest. staff, we again had fantastic meals and service (even though the understandable additional security measures almost kept us from entering Newbury based on crowd limits). The crab cake special and the lobster mac and cheese were huge hits!"

  • "We ate at Joe's last year during our stay in Boston for the marathon. It was a close walk from our hotel, and we had a great experience. So, this year, we took a friend there for lunch on Sunday. I made a reservation, knowing how popular Joe's is, and arrived to find customers waiting on the sidewalk! Love the remote they give to notify when your table is ready. It gave us a chance to step outside and enjoy the great weather while we waited and talked. The wait staff was friendly, the food was great and Joe's did not disappoint. "

  • "Went to lunch at Joes on Easter Sunday. Food (salads and ribs) was very good and service was excellent. It is. Wry noisy though so difficult to have a conversation. Perhaps that was because they were so busy. I would definitely go back."

  • "We went for Brunch on Easter Sunday. One of the only places without a price fixe or buffet. Place was nice, service was good. Food choices for brunch not too exciting, pretty basic. The omelete was good. but did not arrive with toast and fruit flavored butter as noted on menu? French toast was bland and not hot, would def not recommend that... And $3 for a cup of coffee?? Crazy. Anyway it was a pleasant morning more about the company and think maybe kitchen was busier than on a normal Sunday... Not sure if they do better on the food for lunch or dinner."

  • "We booked on Open Table and it took 45-50 minutes of waiting past our time to be seated. Unacceptable."

  • "I'd definitely reserve Joe's for great weather when you can sit outdoors and enjoy the water. My tenderloin hash with eggs was good, but frankly, the pot roast hash at Bot Evans is better at half the price, albeit with crummy ambience."

  • "We eat here every year after the 5k before the marathon and have always enjoyed our experience. The food is good, service friendly, location can't be beat and the price reasonable for the area. We will return next year."

  • "Joe's is a great eating spot. Vibrant with loads of action, good menu and the food is well prepared. The early evening I was there with two other people, the volume of the music in the bar/outdoor seating area was deafening. It was literally impossible to hold a normal conversation and even hearing the waitress was difficult. Although our initial order got "lost" (according to our waitress), the second order we put in was delivered in about 20 minutes (total wait time for our food was about 40 minutes). The food was served hot and was quite good. Unfortunately the "semi-outdoor" seating (fold back roof) allowed the breezes to blow into the eating area and by the time I finished my once-hot pasta dish, it was stone cold."
