Diner Reviews
  • "We were very pleased with our dining experience at Theismann's. The crab cakes were great, practically no filler whatsoever. Our server, Evan, was attentive without being overbearing and had great suggestions on the menu as well as the beer and wine selection. Will be back."

  • "Enjoyed our dining experience. Sat in the back room, which was much quieter than the bar area. Service was excellent."

  • "Excellent experience! I made a reservation for 12. Two of us arrived 30 minutes early and they seated us immediately...the table was pre-arranged and saved for us long before the reservation time, and they didn't make us wait for the whole party to arrive. The server (Daphne) was friendly, attentive, and came around often enough to ensure our drinks were continuously refilled...without being around "too much." I highly recommend Theismanns for a large group!"

  • "Food was excellent, good selections. It was during the world cup play on a Friday night, so there were some noisy folks in the bar, but just having fun. I brought my mom who took nee to the original Joe Theismans restaurant....but she's is older now and a little hard if hearing....which the scenes made more difficult...at least that night...will definitely go back!"

  • "Organized staff, friendly receptionist. Caring Manager. But a little too noisy for talking when inside --- could use a couple of glass dividers between tables and bar scene. But that is my only complaint. The menu is good, staff wonderful. Especially like the outside dining!"

  • "A fantastic evening with old friends. Theisman's is a wonderful experience. A great date night, family night, any event."

  • "I get annoyed when my food luke warm vice HOT. It leads me to believe the my food was just hanging out in some random window waiting for my server to finally pick it up. My entree was good but would have been a lot better if it wasn't luke warm. FYI, the eggplant and goat cheese app was amazing, it was visually pleasing, delicous and served at a proper temp."

  • "We were seated and the wait staff quickly added 2 more seats to accommodate our group (kids came along) :) The food was delicious, our waitress was delightful and everyone had a great time."

  • "We ate at Joe Theismann's Restaurant for Father's Day last Sunday. Really good food. Nice ambiance. Good Service"

  • "We really enjoyed our experience at Theismann's restaurant. The food was excellent and the service was awesome. We took an earlier reservation than we would have liked because the open table didn't have anything later. The restaraunt was practically empty, so we wondered if we could have gone later."

  • "The food was amazing for a sports bar. I will be a recurring customer"

  • "This place is okay in a pinch since it is close to a couple hotels, but don't make it a destination. Although there is a cocktail list, I asked if they had Campari. The waitress said yes so I ordered a negroni and our waitress looked at me like I was crazy and thought I was making the drink up. The recipe is even on the back of the Campari bottle. Food was good not great, although my medium rare burger was medium well - well done. Fries were quite good."

  • "The restaurant was a surprise - larger than it looks with a masculine, dark wood design - fitting for a restaurant named after a quarterback of the NFL. The wine list needs to be revamped - for the price per bottle, quality of the wine needs to be upgraded. Servers know little about wines, and appropriate glasses. All other things being equal the restaurant is pleasing, the food is good. We'll go back."

  • "My husband and I usually stop in on our way to church events. The staff is always friendly and welcoming and, most importantly, accommodating. When we explain that we are under tight time constraints, they always get us served quickly and out as fast as we need to be. The menu has changed a bit but on our last visit, I had the pork tenderloin. It was excellent and I would recommend it. This is a great restaurant and the prices are very reasonable."

  • "Good cross between sports bar and very good food. Have used as a meeting/ dining spot for 25 years, always consistent quality food and better than most over time. Eating at the bar is a good option when there for sports. Outdoor seething area is good too. The KIng street metro stop makes it a very good spot for meeting others. Have never been disappointed in the food or beer selections. "

  • "I've been coming here a few times this year. This time they overcooked the eggs Benedick. The waitress had to many table to serve and left out our big party to tend to others. I think she was also new. I was satisfied when the manager subtracted the items that was overcooked. "

  • "My coworkers trusted me to find a restaurant that offered healthy choices, for the gym rat, and not so healthy options for cheeseburger lovers. We all loved the food and the sporty environment. I made the reservation and didn't have to wait the hour it would've taken had we not used Open Table. It was a bit noisy, though. "

  • "Was happy to see the gluten-free menu. Food was good for the most part. We were a party of six. all plates were good, except the fish and chips. The fish was a soft whitefish. Would have been nicer if it had been cod or halibut. Overall, we had a nice experience."

  • "We love sitting outside! Noise level there is fine, heaters are magic and staff is terrific! Inside upper level is the same and the noise level is not too bad but could use a pane of glass to separate from the bar on occasion. The bar scene is too noisy for me. People actually DO go out to eat to talk to their guests and also to do business plus good food and service. The Quiet Room is good when it is Quiet and could also use a pane of glass between levels. But we love going there. The reception staff is above and beyond and always make me feel welcome! I am a regular. The food is consistent. Staff great. "

  • "I was originally just planning on going here with my 14 year old son and myself just to chill out and watch the draft but we ended up taking my Mom and celebrating Mother's Day here for brunch. She had a great time and loved the food and service. We were all pleasantly surprised, the atmosphere is great, the good is great and the service is great. I definitely recommend and we will be returning. "

  • "I live in the neighborhood but I WILL NEVER GO BACK. I was there with my family. The server never acknowledge me (I got there last) and I had to flag him down for a drink, he got tired of refilling my groups water glasses and SLAMMED down a water pitcher in front of me and my aunt. He forgot my grandmother's hot tea, I had to remind him, he then forgot my grandmother's order. Since I hadn't seen a manager ONCE (and it was a busy night) I hunted him down (in his office instead of on the floor). He apologized, got my grandmother her food, AND COMPED OUR NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AND 2 DESSERTS. SERIOUSLY?! I then called and complained the next day and the manager offered me a COUPON that I HAD TO COME PICK UP MYSELF (which I didn't). Ridiculous"

  • "It was very busy but surprisingly not too loud even with the wizards playoff game on. Our server, Evan, was attentive but not overbearing and really sold us on the crab cakes. I'm happy we listened to him because all 3 in our party were impressed. Wine list was robust and diverse for what might seem like a place that caters to a sports bar crowd. We will be back and often."

  • "We needed same day reservations for a group of 8 and it was very easy to do so with the open table website. Only half our party was on time, but we were seated immediately and taken care of. The food was very good as well."

  • "We were visiting with Family and needed a round table to be able to talk. The staff was helpful and the food was very good. I would certainly recommend. "

  • "What keeps me coming back to Joe Theismann's is the shrimp and lobster bisque, but don't be mistaken; all the food is absolutely incredible!! We have the filet mignon that melted in your mouth. It was cooked to perfection. Everything we tasted was just as good. The wait staff is incredible and welcoming and we enjoyed the entire experience. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the D.C. area. See you soon!!"

  • "I usually don't like what good be termed sports bars because they are usually rather noisy and have limited menus. Here, the food is excellent as is the service. And it's not all that noisy at all. The seating is also first rate too."

  • "This was my first time dining at Joe Theismann's Restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. My server (James) although new, was attentive and very helpful and suggesting items from the menu try. Also, the parking with validation made it even better. I will be sure to return as I had a great time and the food was excellent."

  • "i will start positive. the beer was cold. the fries are great. the menu is decent for a sports bar. prices are reasonable. now the nitty gritty. the hostesses just nodded and smiled- pretending to accommodate our very easy request for seating. they got it wrong. the server nodded and smiled- pretending to hear our order- she got it wrong, three items out of five items ordered. she got it wrong. the bathrooms were needing a scrub down. the tvs (we are talking about a sports bar after all) were too far for folks in the dining area to see anything at all. the restaurant could use an overhaul. looking a bit dated. and yes, i know we are talking about a sports bar. time to step it up."

  • "This was just the kind of restaurant we were looking for after a day of sight seeing in D.C. Not to fancy but comfortable and the food was excellent. The prices were good for what they offered."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "It's not fine dining. It's noisy. It doesn't pretend to be anything more. The food was okay and prices were not bad. Wine bottle prices were very good. Kiddos didn't like the kid menu. The chicken was too spicy. Salads are huge and entrees could feed a family. Our server was new and nice but needed more time with a manager or experienced server. Overall it was okay. I don't think I would go back again for dinner but drinks and bar food would be fine."

  • "Always a great place to eat. Excellent menu and specials. Food consistently good. Have been there for date night, dinner with another couple, special family occasions, New Years Eve, etc., etc. Energetic and sports-themed but not a "sports-bar" feel."
