Diner Reviews
  • "My coworkers and I were excited to try this restaurant for the first time. The serve was slow to get to the table. Drinks were good. They suggested I get the monk fish, it was just as good if not better then lobster. Well they were terribly wrong, it was dry and had little to no taste. Needless to say I don't think I would go back. "

  • "Not wow food, but ok. Coconut cake is pretty good though."

  • "The Filet was overcooked. The bearnaise sauce was not close to be a bearnaise! The chef explained that it was his version of it: pretty disappointing to say the least."

  • "Joe Muer's always does a very nice job. Food was excellent, as was the service. Will return in the near future."

  • "On 4-12-14, we were seated 20 minutes late for a 7:15 reservation. After 2 straight trips to the bar, the waiter tells me they're out of both of my beer choices. Bell's Two Hearted & New Belgium Fat Tire can be purchased at any retailer, so how is it that it can't be kept in stock? Anyway, my wife asks the waiter for a white wine recommendation. She goes with the buttery vs. oaky hints. With no warning about differences in price points, I end up with a $25.00 glass of wine on the tab. It gets better. We went to Muer's that night because of the Halibut Season special advertised on the website. At just 8:00pm, we're told that they were out of halibut. Must have been a short season this year. 2012 Restaurant of the Year? Really?"

  • "Everything was really great , the food , service, and ambience! We had a group of 14, the restaurant asked for my guest to bring cash, which everyone did, but they did not itemize the bill and it was very hard to figure out what how much everyone's bill was. We didn't want it separate but at least make it easier on the eye when you have bill for a large group!"

  • "Our service was exceptional. Our waiter made us feel very welcome and comfortable and did a great job meeting all our needs. Our group had a young family with two small children and you were very accommodating as to their needs; the child menu choices were perfect. Each one of us had something different, and it was all good. I have to say the coconut cake and the carrot cake were phenomenal. We would definitely recommend your restaurant. We all had a great experience."

  • "We dined on Friday April 4. We had one of the specials for the evening, halibut with a crab cake and an order of scallops. Both entrees were delicious and prepared just right. The wait staff was attentive and the whole ambience was enjoyable and relaxing. We are looking forward to coming back and bringing friends."

  • "We decided to try Joe Muer's for the first time and we were extremely satisfied with our experience. It had been a while since we dined downtown, but the drive was well worth it, highlighted by fantastic food and great service overlooking the waterfront. Our waitress was excellent, as she was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance is great, with a wonderful piano player, although it was a bit noisy, but not a deterrent from still enjoying a conversation. We would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves enjoying great food with their date or group of friends in an energetic and romantic atmosphere."

  • "The service and food were fantastic. We were celebrating a birthday and the result couldn't have been better. The recommendations of our server were right on, but everything was perfect including the piano player. This restaurant is fairly expensive but was not lacking in any element. We will continue to return."

  • "I have been to Joe Muer's multiple times for both lunch and dinner...I have never had a bad meal! The fish taco's are amazing and so are the dynamite rolls. I had the Dover Sole for dinner there last week and it was wonderful. The steaks are great too. The potatoes au gratin are amazing and so is the creamed spinach. Great wine selection as well!"

  • "we are very frequent diners here. menu is pretty pricey but so worth it!"

  • "Very nice views, food is marginal and location is difficult to get to. Parking can range from $12-$16 in the parking garages around the area and they do not cover parking. Had a fish dish that was 'filet' at the table by the waiters. All that came back was crumbles of mushy fish that had to be eaten with a spoon as it was so chopped up. Soups were excellent, oysters ok but very expensive. Only veggies offered with meals was creamed spinach (more mushy food to be eaten. Great meal for babies or people with denture problems."

  • "I went here with two of my very close friends for a girls night out and we all loved it. This was my second time here and this time was even more amazing because of the company I had. We were placed right next to the piano, which we did not mind because we are all music lovers. The food was amazing, the sides are huge and sharable. The wine, was perfect. This place is great for dates or just the occasional night out. The service was outstanding. I would defintely reccommend this place!"

  • "Although the appetizer, soup and dessert were excellant , the fish which is the reason why I went to this well recommended restaurant was not cooked well!!"

  • "Joe Muer's never fails!! I had the steak, funny to order at a seafood restaurant. It was amazing!! Our waitress was even better! Ask for Alyssa. If you are in a crunch for time, let them know; otherwise you'll be stuck there for 3 hours."

  • "We heard that Joe Muer had opened a new restaurant in the Ren Cen, and as long time Detroiters, we decided to check out this nostalgic Michigan gem. The moment we arrived we were welcomed by our server, Christopher and our charming and knowledgable waiter, Sean, who set the tone for the entire evening. My husband commented how much this reminded him of the old Joe Muers, but reinvented into a more modern experience. Food was great, of course. We particularly enjoyed the people watching - multi-generational and cultural, all enjoying this great evening. Loved the waterfront view too. My husband and I rarely go to Detroit any more except for sporting or cultural events. After our evening at Joe Muers, I promise that we will be back!"

  • "We were greeted promptly and seated in a small booth with a great view of the river. The food was wonderful and served by a waiter in a white dinner jacket and red bow tie. Kind of a blast from the past. He was attentive but not to much so. Even the young man busing tables offer to take our picture. Very nice overall. There is a sushi bar which looked beautifully arrange and a cocktail area separate from the dining room where folks seemed to be enjoying themselves. There is also a section for larger parties to the back of the space where a private party could convene without disturbing the other diners. Overall, beautifully done."

  • "The service here is as amazing as the food. Even with a large group both times we have been to this restaurant out meals were in no way compromised and everyone's dishes were brought out hot and cooked correctly. This is all of my friends favorite spot in Michigan so far and we have been exploring for a few years now. Coach Insignia is great but the food is more exciting at Joe Muer."

  • "It's been 20? Years since the original closed. Not much has changed menu wise. Still bean Dip, creamed spinach et. I had the "Dover" sole. It was tough and not very Warm. The chop salad was great. I would go Back and have apps and small bites."

  • ".The menu selections were varied and creative. The wine list is very good and the Reisling was superb."

  • "Impeccable attention to detail in presentation and serving but not intrusive. Great views of the Detroit River & Canada to watch ice flows in the winter and freighters, yachts and sailboats in the summer. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Saturday night we sat in the main dining room but close to the piano bar (our favorite spot when it's just the two of us) The pianist welcomes requests and it's pleasant to hear the sound of a real piano instead of electronics."

  • "The whole experience was very pleasurable. The Alaskan halibut, the special for the evening was superb! It was a tad noisy in the restaurant mainly due to the fact that there was a Red Wings game that evening so there were large groups of fans eating at the same time which rose the volume level."

  • "There was a time when Joe Muer was the benchmark for dining experience, that however is no longer the case."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "We really enjoyed view from our romantic booth. The appetizers and fresh sword fish and tuna entree's were excellent. Our waiter Wayne, was fantastic and is one of the best waiters we have ever experienced. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves an excellent view and enjoys the best food that Detroit has to offer."

  • "WHEN I WALK IN IT'S A FEELING LIKE BEING ON VACATION IN A GLAMOUROUS CITY. DEFINITELY A GREAT FIND IN THE BIG D!!!"
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "The food was excellent. Our server was very busy and did not give any info on the suggestions. For example the sushi serving was very large and could have been shared as our appetizer. It was our anniversary but that was not even mentioned though it was part of our reservation. The assisting server apologized to us at the end for not being able to give us good service due to having to take care of a large table."

  • "I can't say anything negative about Joe Muer. It was outstanding. The food, the view, the service, the live quiet piano music. But be forwarned, It's expensive."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "Great food, albeit pricey. Great cocktails and wines. Excellent and attentive servers. Nice views. But the seating felt more like a 50s diner than a $50 per person establishment. If you can sit comfortably anywhere, then by all means try this restaurant. I won't return unless they re-do their old chairs and booths."

  • "It was easily the best meal of my life. I am inlove with seafood and now I almost feel like nothing will compare to Joe Muers. I have never been to a place so fancy but it was perfect for me and my boyfriend's anniversary; it made me feel very special. I loved the piano player!"

  • "Was very disappointed. My expectations of this were much higher than what happened. I had requested a window view (twice requested both in the initial call to restaurant and then when they confirmed the reservation). We did not get a window table. When asked we were told that they could move us to a window table in an hour. It was very noisy in the place. The food was fine. I was expecting something much better. I do not feel it was worth the money we spend."

  • "We took our son the Joe Muer's for his 15th birthday. Our waitperson was kind, knowledgable, and patient. We are a family of seafood lovers, so we were able to appreciate the freshness of the Tempura rolls, Mahi Mahi, Fried Shrimp, and Crablegs."
