A word from Joe G Restaurant
Joe G"s is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant is nestled in the heart of New York.

Established more than 20 years ago, this stylish, renovated restaurant has an ambiance with dark Mahogany wood paneling, mirrors, and scenic photos of Italy to create a warm and cozy dining experience. Despite such seclusion, Joe G's is clearly sought after: shoppers, families, couples and business types are typically found here. Our specials are truly delicious, the combination of ingredients are distinctively paired creating a succulent dish you will enjoy. You can't go wrong with our standards entrées, which are prepared amazingly fresh to order and our pizzas are an obvious specialty. The wine list is extensive and for the most part Italian, with a great choice from well-priced house wines to the top of the range supertoscans, service is sharp and attentive and are knowledgeable with our wine menu.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Diner Reviews
  • "Walking down the stairs from the street you are welcomed into a warm and cozy dining area. The ambiance is relaxing and inviting. There are a wide variety of Italian dishes to choose from, as well as a wine list to satisfy everyone's tastes. When the food arrives, you cannot help but notice the freshness and tastiness of every item. Our server was very helpful in making recommendations and explaining the food preparation. I often choose the veal parmigiano at Italian restaurants, and Joe G's was excellent. I enjoyed the presentation, the food, the service and the friendly atmosphere. When you enter Joe G you leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind you and are transported to a Mediterranean dinner vacation. Go and enjoy!"

  • "Wife and I had dinner after a matinee. Both of us enjoyed the fixed price menu including appetizer. Service was impeccable and restrooms clean. Would go back again."

  • "Long table for 14 not so great for a family that hasn't seen each other in a while. To encourage such events perhaps some square tables pushed Together in a corner would have been a better ambiance. Our reservation was at 6 and could have been earlier if this set up Was possible."

  • "The restaurant's subterranean entrance might give you pause, as if it were the right place; however the ambience is pleasant enough, the food is very good, the prices are most reasonable and the servicei is excellent. It is a short walk to Carnegie Hall and the theaters.Try it...you will glad you did!"

  • "This basement restaurant is so much better (and cheaper) tha the more famous Patsy's down the street. Try the gnocchi!"

  • "The reason this place has been around for 20 years must be that it is within walking distance to the theater district. That's why WE picked it. The food was average, the service was good, but the table we had was near the front door and drafty. Also, the website talked about homemade garlic bread, but we didn't see it on the menu. What we did see on the menu were higher prices than on the website, which looking more carefully now, doesn't look as if it has been updated since 2008."

  • "We ordered the pasta special and it came out so fast, we swore it was for someone else (if there had been anyone else. $100K would straighten this restaurant right out."

  • "It's rare to find a restaurant who relies on pre-theatre traffic where your food isn't thrown at you. This is one!"

  • "I made a last minute reservation for 10 people at Joe G. My family was in town. They were very accommodating of our group. The food was quite good as well."

  • "Not good ambience and food claimed to be homemade but was not home made. The only thing I enjoyed was the wine. Good service but Not worth it!!!!!"

  • "As NY residents for over 35 years, we've gotten in a rut and are often too tired to try anything new. Rarely do we go to the theatre, but my husband surprised me with an offer for dinner & theatre for Valentine's Day. As usual, we worked too hard that day and at 4pm I needed to make a midtown reservation that would allow us to eat and get to the theatre by 8pm. Open Table was my trusted search engine and personal assistant to accomplish this. Joe's came up, and I read the reviews, judged the location to be perfect ( husband's business has been on 7th Ave & CPS for over 25 years), and I could get there from Wall Street on the R train in 15 minutes. It was GREAT! What a find for jaded NY'ers! Very good, classic Italian. Great value for $."

  • "Looking for a neighborhood restaurant for casual meal with friends and found this great restaurant on open table. Lived in neighborhood for years & somehow missed this. Well prepared italian food with ample selection. We enjoyed seafood pasta, veal parm & stuffed pork chop which had a d e delicious mushroom sauce. Will return"

  • "The food at Joe G's is amazing! So fresh and delicious. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I so recommend this restaurant. It was girls weekend and we chose Joe G's for a quiet dinner after a show. Yummy! Definitely going back!!!!"

  • "It wasn't a fancy place, but the food was really great. There was a three course special which was affordable and really showcased their talents. But I had a hard decision making between doing the special and the menu because all of it looked fantastic. They were pretty busy for a Monday night."

  • "Good Italian food near the theatre district without paying theatre district prices. The place is below street level so the scenary is what you see inside. Our apps and entrees were hot and tasty. The wine offerings were good and varied. I would come back to this restaurant."

  • "The food/ coffee was alright. Not a fancy place, but the staff were trying and I liked it more because of its location. We were going to Carnegie Hall. Found out we had extra hours. Less than 10 min of easy walk brought us to MoMa, to starbucks, and to the Carnegie Hall."

  • "This basement Italian outdoes its more famous neighbor, Patsy's, on so many levels. The food is better, costs less, and the service is exceptional. Try the delightfully delicate gnocchi or the pork chop (a frequent weekend special) -- but I've never had a bad meal here."

  • "Great Service. They were very accommodating and didn't rush us at all! The specialty drinks were also a hit!"

  • "We had family dinner after a show for a group of 19 and had an outstanding time. The food was great (especially the sea bass!) and the staff were excellent at taking care of us. Resturant has "small italian feel", very nice."

  • "We picked Joe's last minute cause we needed a space for 16 people. We had not been to the space or had the food. We could not have been more pleased! The food is really, really, really good. It's a smaller restaurant so not too noisy and they comfortably sat 16 people which is no easy feat in NYC. The service was excellent. I would recommend this bar/restaurant and I would go back."

  • "While visiting NYC for the holidays, we went to several different eateries and by far, this was one of the best experiences. From the moment we entered, we felt welcome - very unlike some other places I won't mention! Joe G's has a great "family" feeling and the food was awesome! We will definitely put this one on our list of places to return to when we come to NYC next time!"

  • "I stumbled upon this restaurant through Open Table and was thrilled with the food and the price. Everything from appetizer to dessert was excellent. I ordered from the Prix Fixe Menu - ordered Blacked Shrimp over Caesar Salad for an appetizer, Lobster Ravioli with Shrimp as my main entree. Wanted to lick my plate clean!! Was so delicious. And perfect to bring the kids too because they can always have pizza if they don't want anything else. 2 kids only need one pizza, by the way."

  • "We were in search of a place for 18 people for a nice Italian dinner after seeing the tree at Rockefeller Center and before our Christmas show at MSG. No one would accommodate our large party. I used open table to locate a place for us. The people at Joe G's were very nice and accommodating. The food was delicious. The restaurant was located downstairs in a quaint hotel. The staff was very accommodating as we were traveling with 2 wheelchairs - although the guests could walk but not for distances and it is not handicap friendly or those who cannot walk downstairs. We had children with us and the menu was great for all ages. It was a perfect day with our family all together thanks to Joe G's."

  • "I've eaten at Joe G's numerous times and it hasn't disappointed. The waiters are attentive and show appreciation to repeat customers. The food is good, but doesn't vary much....Recently instituted a prix fixe menu that is a real bargain."

  • "This is our 5th or 6th visit to Joe G's. A winner every time. The only complaint was the noise level."

  • "Outstanding dining experience! True authentic Italian atmosphere. Food selections were perfect...enough but not overwhelming. Timing of courses was just right. Delicious from apps through dessert! Nothing leftover...all more than content! Will visit again. Thank you!"

  • "What a great place! We had a party of 12 and everyone was pleased... which is hard to do. Most of our party ordered from the three course Prix Fixe menu. The Lobster ravioli and stuffed pork chops were favorites as well as the Tiramisu."

  • "Booked a table for a large family dinner with 3 young children. They were extremely accommodating, even setting up a high chair and booster chair prior to our arrival. The menu was great for both the adults and the kids. My five year old niece even asked if we could come back!"

  • "We wanted a restaurant close to City Center that wouldn't be too noisy and we got it. It's traditional restaurant Italian cooking but the Tiramisu (provided as part of a very inexpensive prix fixe dinner) was the best I've had in decades."

  • "Joe G is one of our favorite restaurants. The gnocchi is outstanding; the pork chop special always wonderful. I've never had a bad meal there, and I eat at Joe's often. You're much better off there than at the more famous Patsy's down the street."
