A word from Joe G Restaurant
Joe G"s is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant is nestled in the heart of New York.

Established more than 20 years ago, this stylish, renovated restaurant has an ambiance with dark Mahogany wood paneling, mirrors, and scenic photos of Italy to create a warm and cozy dining experience. Despite such seclusion, Joe G's is clearly sought after: shoppers, families, couples and business types are typically found here. Our specials are truly delicious, the combination of ingredients are distinctively paired creating a succulent dish you will enjoy. You can't go wrong with our standards entrées, which are prepared amazingly fresh to order and our pizzas are an obvious specialty. The wine list is extensive and for the most part Italian, with a great choice from well-priced house wines to the top of the range supertoscans, service is sharp and attentive and are knowledgeable with our wine menu.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

The food was very well cooked and tasted wonderful. The service was good and got me out in plenty of time for the theater. I had Chicken Parm and pasta. I really liked the taste of the pasta. I will be back!

Even though Joe G is downstairs, the dining room is a comfortable throwback to another time with decent service. The food was mediocre but palatable - the calamari friti was frozen and undercooked; the fish oversauced and overcooked. So, this would have been an OK albeit unmemorable dining experience until a smell like an incredibly intense bathroom deodorizer permeated the room. We and the other diners noticed immediately, but the staff seemed unfazed so we asked for the manager, who was not present. When we mentioned the smell to the maître d we were told that the hotel upstairs was cleaning and they would close the connecting door - no apology or acknowledgement that it would be impossible to enjoy food with this smell in the air.

The first thing you notice when you enter Joe G Restaurant is the smell of disinfectant. The bread was stale...not a good sign of what's to come...and it came with the little packets of butter in a plastic tub with a metal cover that has to be pealed off that you sometimes get in a deli. The waiter (who looked like he might be from India) didn't understand when we asked whether the pasta was house made. He had to send over someone else to answer the question. The food reminded me of the kinds of places we used to eat at when I was growing up in Williamsburg (the part that remains unfashionable). Was this the worst restaurant experience of my life? No. but I can't imagine ever returning.

I booked Joe G so my wife and I could have a quiet anniversary dinner before the theater. It proved a great choice. It was quiet and the service attentive. The menu frankly is not trendy or especially spectacular but everything was well prepared and was very tasty. They were also very generous in what they did to celebrate our special occasion I won't detail because I don't want to create an expectation for others but it was very much appreciated.

We have been going to Joe G.'s for over 10 years. When spending a weekend in NYC for my wife's big birthday, I couldn't think of a better place to celebrate than at Joe G.'s. We were a group of 8. When we arrived, I looked for our favorite waitress/bartender Patricia. I asked her if she could do anything for my wife's birthday. She immediately left to go to Whole Foods to bring back a personalized birthday cake for my wife. What a treat and I was off the hook for not planning ahead. The prices seemed even more reasonable than I remember. After dinner, we were served complimentary limoncella. My wife was so pleased to be there for her birthday. We don't get to New York often, but when we do, it's always Joe G.'s.

Our friend from New Jersey suggested that we meet him for lunch at Joe G. The food and service were excellent. We returned for dinner the next evening and were not disappointed. This is a cozy (but far from claustrophobic) underground restaurant with a bar in the front. The ambiance was charming. We will return the next time we're in New York

Was meeting a friend I haven't seen in a while and knew that Joe G Restaurant was the place to go. I have been there on several occasions either for lunch or dinner and enjoyed the quaint, quiet appeal that was perfect when you want to enjoy the person or people that you are with. You don't have other tables so close that they hear your conversation. The food was good and the service was great. Check Joe G Restaurant out and you will become a fan.

Walking down the stairs from the street you are welcomed into a warm and cozy dining area. The ambiance is relaxing and inviting. There are a wide variety of Italian dishes to choose from, as well as a wine list to satisfy everyone's tastes. When the food arrives, you cannot help but notice the freshness and tastiness of every item. Our server was very helpful in making recommendations and explaining the food preparation. I often choose the veal parmigiano at Italian restaurants, and Joe G's was excellent. I enjoyed the presentation, the food, the service and the friendly atmosphere. When you enter Joe G you leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind you and are transported to a Mediterranean dinner vacation. Go and enjoy!

The reason this place has been around for 20 years must be that it is within walking distance to the theater district. That's why WE picked it. The food was average, the service was good, but the table we had was near the front door and drafty. Also, the website talked about homemade garlic bread, but we didn't see it on the menu. What we did see on the menu were higher prices than on the website, which looking more carefully now, doesn't look as if it has been updated since 2008.

As NY residents for over 35 years, we've gotten in a rut and are often too tired to try anything new. Rarely do we go to the theatre, but my husband surprised me with an offer for dinner & theatre for Valentine's Day. As usual, we worked too hard that day and at 4pm I needed to make a midtown reservation that would allow us to eat and get to the theatre by 8pm. Open Table was my trusted search engine and personal assistant to accomplish this. Joe's came up, and I read the reviews, judged the location to be perfect ( husband's business has been on 7th Ave & CPS for over 25 years), and I could get there from Wall Street on the R train in 15 minutes. It was GREAT! What a find for jaded NY'ers! Very good, classic Italian. Great value for $.

It's a smaller restaurant so not too noisy and they comfortably sat 16 people which is no easy feat in NYC. The service was excellent. I would recommend this bar/restaurant and I would go back.

We were in search of a place for 18 people for a nice Italian dinner after seeing the tree at Rockefeller Center and before our Christmas show at MSG. No one would accommodate our large party. I used open table to locate a place for us. The people at Joe G's were very nice and accommodating. The food was delicious. The restaurant was located downstairs in a quaint hotel. The staff was very accommodating as we were traveling with 2 wheelchairs - although the guests could walk but not for distances and it is not handicap friendly or those who cannot walk downstairs. We had children with us and the menu was great for all ages. It was a perfect day with our family all together thanks to Joe G's.
