  • "It was our 35th Wedding Anniversary and our nieces from Edmonton flew out for our special day and treated us to Joe Fortes for dinner last Saturday evening. The food was absolutely amazing, our waiter and his assistance were superb with excellence in service and great personality with engaging conversation with lots of laughs which made our evening most memorable. Thanks so much for providing us with great memories and sharing your restaurant with our Alberta family. Doug & Rhoda Powell Also the personalized menu sheet presented to us in your menus was a great touch and appreciated them rolling them up and tying them up in the gold ribbon. Cheers,"

  • "Although the tier tower was so so, the lobster was flavourless , the happy hour oysters for a buck a piece were great, as were the fried oysters. The place got a little too crowded around 5 which made it difficult to navigate out to the washrooms which were horrible, not clean. I will give it another shot tho, could of been an off day."

  • "This is an Old Fashioned Steak and Seafood House, located within walking distance of most Vancouver Hotels. On a Friday early evening, it was packed and reservations were a must. It is very lively and has a great menu served by waiters wearing traditional white jackets. The food was good, not great. The service was good, not great. The drinks were good, not great. That said, I'd say they delivered as expected. Could it be better? Yes. Were we disappointed? No. We would go back. It is a great piece of Vancouver history and charm."

  • "The service here was second to none. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The blue plate lunch special was an outstanding success. The raw oysters were great as were the sauces I will return for sure."

  • "The food and service here were great. Steak was cooked to perfection. My wife had the seafood trio and the trout was amazing. Highly recommend the NY Cheesecake for desert"

  • "I make it a point to visit Joe Fortes every time I am in Vancouver. It has a great atmosphere and is a fun place to be. The oysters are by far the best I have experienced anywhere along the Pacific coast. Usually I just end up filling up on oysters, but this time I managed to save a bit of room for some steelhead trout which was very good. If you are going to visit do yourself a favour and order up an assortment of oysters. You won't be disappointed!!"

  • "Good food and great service. Nice place to celebrate a special occasion. The atomosphere is very upbeat and vibrant. The live piano music is a nice touch. We ordered the sirloin steak and the salmon. Both great choices. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Our Sunday night dining experience was during a full restaurant. We were impressed with the attentiveness of the servers despite the business of the restaurant and the speed in which the meal was delivered. The wine list is impressive with the focus being on B.C. wineries. Food was excellent as we expected. The only negative was the noise level which the piano player just added to. I would like to go back for a quieter meal."

  • "Feel free to check out my Google+ review as OpenTable does not allow enough text to give a full description. At the end of the day, this place is "OK". I would never go back simply because seafood if what I love and seafood is what they're supposed to be best at yet their seafood was mediocre. I expected to be blown away with freshness, flavor, and presentation. This place is too much like a diner and cannot justify the prices on the menu. If you think Oceanaire (a similar concept) is great, you'll barely care for Joe Fortes."

  • "Too loud. Couldn't have a proper conversation without shouting. Nothing wrong with the food, just not outstanding for the price. Not in a hurry to return."

  • "This is my third visit to Joe Fortes and it was outstanding once again! The food, the service, the atmosphere all make it a dining experience to remember. A big high five to our waiters Jaime and Philp. Great job gentlemen!! Icing on the cake? Jan Hall, original keyboardist from Prism, was playing the piano that night. Nothing like Armageddon on the ivories...lol. Can't wait for our next visit!!"

  • "I've been to Forte's for dinner many times and always enjoyed it. I finally had the opportunity to go there for brunch and it is now one of my favourite places. Very creative brunch menu items. I thoroughly enjoyed the seafood hash with poached eggs."

  • "A big seafood fan; very pleased with selection offered. Had Pacific Trout (chef's daily creation); generous portion and wonderful accompaniments. Dining companion had starter garden salad and seafood linguine. Commented on the generous portions of shrimp and scallops and delicous cream sauce. Salad had a terrifc dressing (ordered 1/2 size, very surprised at how large the portion was!). Love the bread with Lobster Oil and Balsamic vinegar. A terrific meal."

  • "Each time I've been to Joe Fortes I've never been disappointed. Food and service are both excellent. Great value for the food as well, the 3 -course Sun to Thurs special is a great deal includes appetizer, main and dessert, both my husband and I were stuffed. We are definitely considering bringing family from San Francisco to Joe Fortes when they visit us in August."

  • "The food and service were amazing but our group of four was seated beside a large group of 15 and it was very noisy and difficult for us to chat."

  • "Sunday-Thursday three course meal for $40 a great value. Otherwise, the food is a bit on the pricy side for the quality you get. Tastes good, but no flavours to write home about. If you get seated downstairs do be prepared to sit in close quarters to other diners. For a more romantic evening, request a spot upstairs where it's a little more private. Service is great and the staff truly take care of all your needs without having to be asked."

  • "We arrived at 6pm on a Friday evening. The place was jam packed with a lot of energy. We sat upstairs and enjoyed the tunes being played on the piano. We started by sharing a crab cake appetizer that was excellent. We also shared a cobb salad that was also great but too big prior to our main course. I had the halibut which was very fresh and flakey and my wife had the 3-way fish (trout, scallop, and prawn). Both were excellent. Service throughout was very good and attentive, but our server did say the salad was "not too big" - but it was too much for us. I felt it was quite expensive but will probably be back."

  • "We ordered fresh oysters, shrimp ceviche, halibut and cioppino. It was a busy weeknight and service was a bit slow however the food was worth the wait. The oysters were very fresh and tasty and the ceviche was refreshing. I wasn't too impressed with the halibut--a little bland but it was cooked fine. We will be back to try their lunch. Great atmosphere but you'll need deep pockets to cover the tab."

  • "The staff was amazing but it took over and hour for our god to arrive with no explaination. Our server did bring an appy on the house for the wait. Despite the delay we still enjoyed ourselves and the food was great. Top notch service for sure. Will return again"

  • "This was my second time coming for the Diner lunch specials during the month of March. We were in and out in about 50 mins, which was perfect for our lunch break. My coworker loved the decor and ambiance in general of the restaurant. The waitress forgot that she ordered a coke so that came a little later than we would have liked. Bread to start was warm and the lobster oil and balsamic vinegar was good as always. I got the burger and the waitress accommodated my request to switch the fries to coleslaw for no extra charge which was nice. My coworker got the mac and cheese with biscuit, which I got last time. I would say both were good meals, came hot and on warm plates. $9.95 each, can't go wrong! Would and will definitely go again."

  • "Greeted at the concierge with a smile and taken to our table right away even though we were a few minutes early. Our server greeted us with a smile but did not introduce herself but did give us excellent service, made sure we had everything we needed or had. Food was excellent and plenty full. Our only down full was that all the fans were going full blast and we basically froze, it was so cold there, I know it is a three floor restaurant but!!!! made it impossible for us to enjoy our meal as much."

  • "I saw two reviews for this restaurant. One on the internet, it was given a four star rating. The other, in the Sun Newspaper, where it received a Gold Star rating, the highest available was a Platinum star. All I can say is that neither rating was warranted, to the point where both could be construed as false advertising."

  • "I've been to many restaurants in my day, managed the Keg and the Boathouse myself and was very impressed with the ambience, food & service. We had our anniversary there and will definitely be back."

  • "As before, Second to non on the oyster bar and exceptional wine list"

  • "While the food was excellent and the ambience good the service was lacking. Wrong food was brought to the table. While we were offered to wait and have the correct order delivered we did not have time to wait another 20-30 minutes. Waiter did not really seem upset about it and was more of a Oh Well So sorry."

  • "Always a very vibrant restaurant scene. We had great food but more important great service. Alana, our server was the value add to our evening. She was informative, never rushed us and truly cared about our experience. Joe Fortes will now be a regular stop for us when in Vancouver."

  • "If you are in search of a great seafood place with a vivacious atmosphere Joe Fortes is perfect. The food was fresh and prepared very well. The eight of us shared tempura prawns, mussels and fried oysters to start and they were all excellent. our group can be very picky when it comes to seafood and all were impressed with their selections which included the fresh fish trio, scallops and fish and chips. My new favorite is the miso sablefish which literally melts in your mouth and has the perfect flavor combination! The service started out a little slow but picked up quickly and a few of our group found the noise level a little much but if you are looking for fabulous food in an energetic environment you can't go wrong with Joe's!"
