Everyone's food was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised at the portions ( how many times have you gone out for a nice expensive dinner and been disappointed with the price vs food disconnect). A lot going on, what I call "instant party", very pleasant staff, and "Monsier Frenchie" does a great job at hosting his clients! The fresh halibut this time was outstanding. Terrace not open, but have been there and love it. ... and everyone loves and Oyster Bar. It was our first time to the restaurant and we will definitely be coming back and bringing others! Every staff member from the hostess to the bartenders at the roof top bar (where we sat) were the perfect level of friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Service was polished and smooth and even though the bar and surrounding tables were full, no one seemed rushed or overwhelmed by the amount of guests. The white sangria cocktail was delicious and our food was also fantastic - we had the cedar smoked salmon and the prawn/ravioli dinner deal - loved the salmon, only criticism was a little too much creamy sauce. We ordered the seafood tower, which was delicious! Everything served on that platter was so fresh and perfectly prepared!
By the time the entres came, we were stuffed. Nonetheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our salmon and sable fish, with sides of scallops and truffle fries.
Our server (I believe his name is Peter?) was a funny and attentive fellow, bantering good jokes with my boyfriend all night.
And then my boyfriend decides to propose that evening, in between courses and without coordinating with the restaurant! Thank you staff for acting quickly in helping us take a picture to capture that silly moment! =)6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMJoe's ..Top Drawer Experience..My wife and I decided to visit Joe's for our wedding anniversary after mulling over our options, decided to go with a tried and true friend we've been visiting for close to 10 years now.. Although we have had varied experience with the service and cuisine, this most recent visit delivered everything a high end steak and seafood place should. The half order starter caesar salad was the perfect segue into the 12 ounce new York strip loin, perfectly cooked and tremendously juicy..my wife had the chef's special, an ethereal halibut with a sublime orange tarragon cream sauce she raved about. The chocolate lava cake brought by surprise was a sweet ending.. Joe's made us feel as though they valued our business and it showed! From the time we sat down the service and our meals were over the top. Joe's is a lively place and there's lots going on but it doesn't distract you from the excellent food selection: seafood, steaks, great selection of applies, etc. My cedar plank salmon was delicious as was the seared halibut. No room for dessert! Our server was attentive without being overbearing, was there when needed; great memory for details and funny, too. Will definitely go back to Joe Fortes!

Upon arriving at the hostess booth there were three girls there which seemed either overwhelmed or very new, not welcoming, we waited a few minutes before they even asked us for our reservation.
The rest of the experience was great. As usual the wait staff were friendly, great for recommendations, a new wine selection was introduced to us and was very tasty. The food was great. Living in the dessert, great, fresh seafood is high on our list when traveling.
We began with a prawn cocktail which we both agreed was the best we have ever eaten. I selected a trio of chef-selected entrees picked from the daily fresh offerings. This night, that included very large sea scallops, the best salmon I have ever had in my life (fresh Copper River sockeye) and cooked prawn. All were excellent along with my wife's cod entree.
Our waiter was perfect! Engaging conversation and every comment seemed natural and the perfect thing to say. He was attentive without intruding on our conversation.

Joe Fortes was highly recommended as a "must do" while in Vancouver.
The place is really cool with a great vibe about it. After a refreshing drink at the bar, we were shown upstairs to our table.
The staff were knowledgeable and very nice. The food was fantastic - fresh and delicious.
When a large party came in from the balcony and were seated adjacent to us things became a bit noisy. The staff were understanding of our situation and, at our request, moved us to a quiet corner table downstairs.

The kind of place you want to dress up for but you don't have to go overboard. The Shrimp Cocktail was exactly what I was hoping for Large shrimp a great cocktail sauce and nothing else to get in the way. The bread and lobster oil was fantastic! I will go again just for that. The servers were friendly and very helpful with suggestions when asked. This time I requested a quieter table for two. Our reservation was at 8pm and we arrived with 5 minutes to spare. The hostess was polite and advised we would be seated shortly. Thankfully shortly was only a few minutes and we were escorted to our table upstairs. It was a corner table for 2 and it was perfect! Immediately I noticed that our menus had a personalized message wish us a happy anniversary, nice touch. Great start to our evening! Mario was our server. Next time, get risotto or garlic mashed to accompany dish. Scallops were perfect - crispy on the outside and moist, tender and cooked inside.
While our server (Matteo) was good at timing, he came across as judging. He doesn't wear his facial expressions in a neutral manner. If he doesn't like the way his customers express themselves ( are loud, or syrupy in conversation etc.) he needs to save his eye rolling and sneering until he is away from the table. Service was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. We had apps, entrees, one martini for me and a half carafe of wine for my husband and shared a half dessert. Plenty of food! She took care of us in a natural way without seeming like she was trying too hard. She was doing her job and she did it very well. The food was excellent although the main took a little long. It was unfrotunate as we had to rush a bit so that we could make it to the Fleetwood mac concert. However, It appears that the whole restaurant was going to the concert so it is foregiveable that the kitchen felt slammed and delays were incurred. In any event, my wife and I both enjoyed the experience. I had an open face steak sandwich and quite frankly, in all the times that I have dined around Vancouver, that was the first time I saw a medium serloin steak properly done. I was pleasantly surprised when my steak also came with some unusual looking Onion rings. I thought they were doughnuts at first =) I tried them and they were Yummy ! My kids had the fish and chips Blue Meal and my wife had the pasta and they were equally awesome!
