  • "This is a great neighborhood restaurant with charm, great food and service. We enjoyed very much."

  • "Good food and rather large portions. Enough leftovers for lunch for two the next day."

  • "A friend had recommended Joe Fish to my wife and I, but it turned out to be a big disappointment. Yes, the free small appetizer was a nice touch. The mussels were very large, but had little taste. Many of the prices are those of an expensive steak house, and I try not to frequent those kinds of places. Rarely does the food match the exorbitant pricing. Joe Fish charges $6.000 for an American cup of coffee. They should be ashamed."

  • "Still a little rough around the edges. The appetizers are so big they are wasteful (we had the burrata cheese and the Brussels sprouts), both were enough for a side dish for four. The wine list wasn't so great and although they gave us several samples to try we settled on a white that was just ok. My friends fish was dry, but my salmon was great. They have a lot of staff available but they mostly felt like they were hurrying us. In general they were trying really hard but somehow missed the mark."

  • "Love Joe Fish. Have had same server (Ahmad?) both times we went and he is excellent. Very professional and polished. We have had a loved the burrata and prosciutto dish, scallop appetizer, octopus salad (still great as a leftover dish the next day), salmon entrée, and branzino entrée. Will be back soon."

  • "My time at Joe Fish last Friday was unbelievable...seriously one of the best meals I have ever had! I went to Joe Fish with group of 6 for a special weekend and everything was perfect. The atmosphere is breathtaking, service amazing and food delicious. We did not have one bad appetizer, drink or entree. I highly recommend the crab cakes, shrimp cocktail and mussels to start. The Hibiscus Mule and Basil Margarita are so tasty. All the entrees we had were amazing, but the lamb and sea bass were the favorites. I cannot wait to visit!"

  • "Ordered the risotto and the rice was undercooked but the taste was interesting and the service was very attentive. My husband had soft shell crab which were delicious and cooked perfectly .. The waiter was especially friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly."

  • "New restaurants can be a hit-or-miss experience, but Joe Fish was wonderful. The service was friendly, professional, and attentive, but not pushy and we never felt rushed even as the room began to fill. The food was fantastic. From the appetizers to dessert, every dish was as good as we imagined it would be."

  • "We dined here for the first time this week. Very disappointed in the service and quality of the food, given the price. There was confusion with the timing of our order, and our appetizers and main course each arrived cold on the plate. The manager seemed to be aware that there were issues going on with our order, but none were proactively addressed by him. I thought the menu and the location showed great promise, but will not go back anytime soon."

  • "From start to finish Joe Fish had us covered. Very flavor forward menu and the summer sangria???? Order two carafes!!!! I recommend the grilled octopus salad, mussels and halibut!! My only regret was that we didn't save room for dessert. They looked so good. But we will be back. This is a foodie's spot."

  • "We were a party of 2 and sat at the wall of shared bench with very small tables for 2. The tables were so small the servers had a hard time fitting our dishes on the table. Also, the tables were so closely packed in together that I really felt like I was dining with the people next to us. The girl seated next to me spoke so loudly my husband could not wait to leave. I would return but never sit at those tables for two. It spoiled the experience."

  • "Food was outstanding and the service was even better. This place opened up a few months ago in River North and is just another gem to add to the restaurant scene there. The atmosphere was great in the restaurant and I've already started to recommend to others!"

  • "I haven't missed on an open table pick yet and once again they deliver! The food here was quite tasty. Yes, a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. For those prices I expected excellent service and that's precisely what I received. Fairly loud, but I could still have a conversation across the table without yelling. This is a special occasion, out of town company kind of spot. At least for my budget it is lol"

  • "Very interesting options for excellent fish. The Mediterranean branzino was really excellent, oysters were good, specials were varied and attractive. The decor is quite nice but the noise level makes conversation a bit challenging. Will definitely return."

  • "Miso glazed sea bass, special salmon of the night, and dover sole all fabulous. Cheeseburger...fair!! Don't go there for cheeseburgers! Garlic shrimp appetizer, crab cake, cauliflower appetizer and beefsteak tomato and blue cheese salad all outstanding. Brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly and charred, but had way too many capers on them. Made the dish too tangy/tart to eat. Risotto was cooked perfectly. Cookie plate had 4 monster-sized cookies on them.... wasn't my favorite choice of cookies, but tasted good. Rolls brought tableside and served...nice touch and good choices. Pricey, but we all thought it was worth it. And we ordered way too much food!"

  • "We had a party of 4. Food was fantastic, we were VERY rushed though. Cleared plates before everyone was finished, took my bread plate with bread on it that I had wanted just SUPER rushed. Disappointing because the food was so good. It was not an inexpensive meal we should have been able to enjoy it at a reasonable pace."

  • "If you want outstanding food and service..go to Joe's, not Joe Fish. From the first moment we sat down we knew things would not be good. Our over energetic waiter began by asking us where we lived (none of his business) and said he was sure we were from the suburbs (wrong). I ordered Branzino...asked if it was filleted and he told me what a fabulous job he does. My husband and friends got their food many minutes before I got mine because the waiter had no idea how to filet the fish. At one point I looked over and saw him press the back of a spoon onto the flesh of the fish ensuring that the bones were compressed into the fish. The presentation was a mess and the fish was full of bones. He never brought a dessert menu as we requested."

  • "Outstanding seafood. This is not your typical Rosebud. "

  • "Yes, it is pricey but the food is worth it. Watermelon salad-wonderful, caprese salad-wonderful. Sea bass, swordfish, sole all wonderful. Not so wonderful was the service. Waiter disappeared for long stretches of time. We frequently poured our own wine and waited a long time between courses."

  • "I was disappointed when they closed Rosebud Trattoria. But Rosebud has out done itself. Great Food, Awesome Service, Great Setting, Perfect location. My new favorite Chicago Spot!!"

  • "Pleasantly surprised at this new Chicago fish house. Kumamoto oysters were spectacular. Service very attentive with huge staff. Entrees were both good but accompanying veggie was not so tasty. "

  • "I have been here twice and the food is wonderful. The restaurant is not too large and you can easily have conversations. I will definitely go back. I had Nick as a waiter both times and he was attentive without being intrusive. "

  • "Service was mediocre. Our waiter was unfriendly, cold, and given the ridiculously loud noise, was very difficult to hear. It was quite obvious he didn't want to be there any more than we did. On top of all that, the food was average. Although the halibut dish was very good, the swordfish special was awful. The swordfish was not cooked evenly. Parts were raw and parts were overcooked and tough. I would not go back after this experience."

  • "we made our second reservation immediately after dining there the first time. there are too many wonderful dishes not to go back again. the lobster salad is a generous serving of all lobster; the swordfish special was most delicious swordfish ever; burrata/tomato salad is a feast, etc. the open walls allow the feeling of outdoor dining. only negative is that it is such a scene that the tables are packed in like sardines. "

  • "Went to Joe Fish to try out for a friend's birthday dinner and expectations were high, especially since it was so highly recommended in the Reader. While our server was fantastic, the food was underwhelming. We ordered appetizers only and the portions were huge but the flavors - not so much. Burrata was bland - could have used a little salt, a little balsamic, a little flavor. The tomatoes that came with it were terrific. The shrimp with polenta were just okay - this was highly recommended by our server but missed the mark. Crab cake is enormous and tasty, but skip the sauce that comes with it. Brussels sprouts were my favorite. Yes, brussels sprouts. So if you are curious about dining here, go. But you have been warned."

  • "This place is fine...just fine. Fine; however, does not justify the incredibly high prices that Joe Fish charges for seafood. I'm a food guy and I have no problem spending a lot of money on fine dining and I do this quite frequently, but Joe Fish is an average seafood restaurant that is trying to price itself into a fine dining seafood restaurant. The food is good, but not good enough to justify the price of admission. "

  • "Beautiful room and bar area. A wall of glass lets the street scene in-fun to watch. Menu was very appealing-lots of great choices. A party of four ordered way too much food so we could sample many things. Great addition to an already hot area of town. "

  • " Great food with prices to match. Nicely redecorated space...more open then in the previous restaurant. The previous space had noise level that was too high as did Joe Fish initially. After asking the waiter the music was reduced to a more comfortable level. All together a very nice food with great service and very good food, if a bit pricey."

  • "Joe's has a warm comfy feel in the bar which though small is a place you can settle in and watch a sports event on television while drinking really good wine. Floor to season windows also makes for good people watching . The food in the restaurant is quite good with an Italian flair . The Chilean sea bass is one of the best and the halibut my mother had was to die for . The restaurant really excels with the veggies , we had incredible Brussel sprouts and the best brocoli /spinach combo ever . However , next time I will ditch the spinach and just go the brocoli which was perfectly crunchy . The wine list was quite good , especially the Sancerre we ordered . The restaurant decor still feels unsettled. Some "seasoning" needed. "

  • "Great energetic, hip atmosphere. Nice balanced menu (gf doesn't eat seafood!) I had 2 of every oyster-get the lucky limes! Portions are huge-her chicken dish had 2 huge breasts-but she loved it-piled w/arugula, heirloom tomatoes. Professional service-very knowledgable about the product. Visited twice in one week! Get the side of corn-out of this world!"

  • "Our 2nd visit. Every dish has been flavorful & well-prepared. Beautiful, newly renovated space. Service is very good. Portions are large. Appetizers can easily be shared and you will probably have part of your entree left over to take home. While very good overall, there were a couple of misses. There was a lag between our starters and entrees. Rack of lamb came out bloody rare, not medium. (To their credit, the waiter started to carve the rack, saw it was not at the right temperature, sent it back, and got it perfect.) Very noisy. Every table was full, so the noise of conversation was high. The music, was more appropriate for a club than for the 40-60 year old customers here, and very loud even over the din of conversation. We will go back"
