Diner Reviews
  • "The service was very good. The Macho Nachos appetizer was good. The pulled pork had a lot of fat. The cole slaw was not very good. The corn bread was not very good. I've eaten at Joe Buck's several times before and this was the only time that the food was only fair."

  • "We have been to this restaurant several times in the past. This experience was the worst by far. The food was very bland and dry. The service was not it's finest. For our beverages, I asked for a vodka and cranberry. Yes, I did receive a vodka and cranberry - the MOST EXPENSIVE vodka they had! I was floored when we received our bill. We will not visit this restaurant in the near future! Too expensive for what we received."

  • "We had a very good dining experience at joe bucks. It was a great fit with a night out going to the Blues game. The food was great and service very good. Using the opentable reservation online we only waited approx. 10 minutes to be seated on a very busy night before the blues game. I would recommend Joe Bucks for a great night out."

  • "It had been a while since we had been at this restaraunt. The food was below average. It felt very chain restaraunt like. I ordered the sweet potato fries as a side and what came were cold hard pieces of yuk. Asked the server and they brought fresh ones. They seem to have a hard time when they are busy. Would not recommend."

  • "Service was excellent and the food was cooked to perfection. My favorite place for BBQ in the downtown."

  • "Service was average at best. Food was good. Parking was odd. Back of the restaurant appeared to have a parking lot for patrons. However, once you were in the lot, you couldn't get out without paying (or voucher from restaurant) and almost EVERY spot was permanent reserved."

  • "My wife and I decided that rather than filling up on junk food at the stadium, we would instead head downtown early and find a better restaurant to try and hopefully get a better selection of food options. We had been to J Bucks in Clayton before and the menus online looked very similar. The downtown location has a slightly less fancy appearance than Clayton, but the food was pretty much the same, which is pretty good. I had BBQ and my wife had a sandwich. We were glad we made reservations through Open Table, because as we got closer to the game time, the place really filled up."

  • "Pulled pork and brisket was only warm when served. Cornbread was stale. Service was just OK considering the place was empty. There has got to be better barbecue places in St Louis than Joe Bucks."

  • "SInce I work just a block away, Buck's is perfect to grab a quick dinner between shows. The staff is always friendly and acommodating. Thanks!"

  • "I heard great things about this place and it just didn't live up to my expectations. The place was slow three of us and one larger group. I though for sure we would get good service with the please so slow. I was wrong the waiter was less then attentive took forever to take our order. Once our order was placed it took forever for the food to come and when it finally came my friend food nachos was cold they forgot her salad they forgot my husbands salad we sent back the nachos they came back cold again . We had no drinks most of our meal. I won't ever go here again."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Joe Buck's for Valentine's Day. The food was very good, the servive was good, but its a restaurant more apprpriate for a pre or post baseball game meal than a romantic evening. All in all I would gladly go back - just not for Valentine's."

  • "We grabbed a quick bite here before going to a concert on Valentine's Day. The restaurant was pretty empty, so I expected better food service. I ordered a turkey burger and it was decent but the fries were cold as ice. The white wine I ordered was also delivered at room temperature, which made the experience kind of mediocre."

  • "Went to Joe Bucks before Blue's hockey game and the food and service were excellent. Great place and I would recommend for dinner anytime!"

  • "Great sports atmosphere prior to going to a game, service needs to be improved. We indicated on our reservations we were going to the Blues game at 7 and told our waitress as well; but our table was not ready on time and it took a long time to receive our orders. Our waitress brought the wrong salad and the wrong side. The food tasted really good, but I had to send my ribs back to get re-heated. One would think a big sports restaurant would be staffed accordingly prior to sports events and realize their patrons would like to get to the game on time. We went their prior to World Series Game 3 and had great & timely service and a delicious meal."

  • "Went to Buck's for dinner before Blues game with two grandsons (4 & 7). Seated promptly, server was there immediately. Orders placed, and drinks & appetizer delivered promptly. Then waited more than 30 minutes for meals to arrive. Server was excellent, kept checking on us and apologizing for lack of food. Finally got meals, which were fine, but had to rush to eat in order to get to game. Buck's is still a good place for before and after event meals and drinks, but management needs to better gear up kitchen for the expected pre-game surge."

  • "The sweet potato fries were outstanding. The filet was prepared perfectly. The spicey BBQ sauce was excellent. The side dish of mac and cheese was huge and there was a good selection of beers on draft. Service was prompt and we made it to the hockey game with time to spare."

  • "Good food! However, I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and received a chicken salad sandwich! Otherwise it was a great experience!?"

  • "We had to wait at least 15 minutes before a waiter served us. He did bring us our meals quickly however. The food was fair. After we left I noticed that we had been double charged for our meal. When my wife called about the charges they said it would take them 4 days to put the charge back on our account."

  • "Has a reservation at 5:30 and had to wait 20 minutes to sit down. After finally placing our order waited 30 minutes for chicken fingers and a cheeseburger. Server offered "we're busy tonight" as the reason. Guess they are not used to a crowd. I can see why."

  • "Food good as always, but poor service by waiter. Wish I would have gotten his name so I could report it here. He's probably glad I don't have it. Just no service whatsoever. Came before hockey game so trying to get our bill and get out of there. Got our food after people that had come after us. Ended up putting coats on and then having to go look for him. We only had salads and a pulled pork sandwich."

  • "Unfortunately the restaurant is not very warm. Not just in my opinion, but everyone else was wearing a coat for dinner. The waiter allowed 10 mins to pass before asking us if we want a drink or to order. And then 15 minutes after we were done eating I had to go find him to get the check. And this was on a Monday night. Nothing special. Perhaps he was new, but the resturant was very cold. The food was good but not great barbecue. Just as good as Bully's in Columbia IL. Not worth driving to STL for BBQ."

  • "We had a great meal one snowy night at Joe Bucks downtown. Great service, friendly suggestions without pushing us. The BBQ plates and platters were as good as advertised. The smoked turkey was very good and the pulled pork was among the city's best. You know it's good when a teenage boy slows down to tell you how good it is. Let me make a suggestion for parties of four or more; save room for desert and order the Big Freese. A gigantic ice cream cookie cake wedge will appear and the tables around you will ooh and ah. This thing should be part of an eating contest. All around great experience."

  • "I went to have a typical Pub dinner (I'm not living in the USA and don't have this at my place). There was no ambiance, cold place it seems the AC is only cooling! This is a shame, this place could have a good potential. The spare ribs were lower than expected: taste, size."

  • "I made our reservations in late Sept.- before the end of baseball season. Our reservation was on Game 3 of the World Series, about 30 minutes before 1st pitch. I kept waiting for an email cancelling my reservation. Even after we showed up, I was a little worried they would say "We are sorry, but because of the World Series we can't fit you in." Much to my amazement, we were seated immediately in the full restaurant - even though we were about 5 minutes late for our reservation. I was amazed and impressed. Thank you. It was definitely a happening place full of Cardinals fans. It was exciting to watch the first few innings amongst the die-hard fans. It was chaotic and loud. The food and service was just okay. I'd give it another shot."

  • "I was there with my wife and daughter for dinner prior to a concert at Scottrade. It was a busy evening and service was very slow. Our waiter was nice but I felt I had to flag him down on several occasions. The beer order took over 10 minutes and the blood mary tasted sweet like katchup. The food was ok but not great. I would recommend JB's to others because I have been there several times with good results."

  • "We chose Joe Bucks for its location near the Scottrade center. We were seated exactly on time. Our waiter had a good working knowledge of the menu and knew (without checking) that the bar did not stock the obscure gin my brother wanted. My salmon was cooked perfectly (as was my husbands), our guest loved his bbq. Our dessert (a carrot cake cupcake) left a lot to be desired as what was supposed to be a flavor pocket inside just tasted as if the cupcake was not completely cooked. We should have sent them back. Otherwise, a very nice dining experience. As we left, the place was packed so I suggest reservations."

  • "Went to J Buck's - Downtown with my mom and a friend for dinner before a concert a few days ago. We all commented on how the hostess didn't make us feel welcome. And it didn't get much better! The service was bad, very slow. The food was ok at best. And its presentation had little appeal. I'm an ok cook, and I could have done much better preparation and presentation myself! The tables were crowded, too close together. Very noisy, difficult to carry on a conversation. Overall, very disappointing experience; doubt I will return."

  • "Great location for drinks and dinner when attending a Cardinal game or an event at the Scottrade or Peabody facility. Easy parking, good food, and lots of activity. This corner in downtown is still alive."

  • "We made a reservation to allow enough time to have dinner and make a concert at Scottrade. We were seated 25 minutes late and missed the first 15 minutes of the concert. We liked the food and the server tried to hurry things up so we would make the concert, but it did not happen. I would return but not before an event at Busch or Scottrade. The sliders were excellent, I had the cheeseburger, pulled pork and grilled buffalo chicken for my choices. Fries were excellent. Two had the salad with BBQ beef and thought it was just fair since the beef was not chopped and just sitting on top of the salad, fat and all. One had the salad with pulled pork and loved it. They refused to put World Series on every TV, so some could not see it."

  • "Appears Buck's has dumbed-down their menu recently. Before it was a bit more upscale with specialties like crab cakes. Now, strictly bar food. Ok as bar food, but we were looking for a nicer sit down dinner menu before a concert, and settled for bar food. Now it will just be a place to grab a beer and a quick bite to eat before a game, and not a destination for dinner."

  • "The food and service was amazing, we were going to the cardinals game and had no problem getting in and getting our food in a very reasonable amount of time! The food itself was great, they really took there time to make excellent BBQ ribs and brisket and it showed. We indulged and had desert and ordered the "big freese" for the two of us which was a big mistake...it tasted absolutely amazing but was so big we couldn't even make a dent! The overall experience was incredible and part of a time in St. Louis that I will never forget. I recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone and I know I will be back!"
