Diner Reviews
  • "My "go-to" restaurant when in Lincoln Center area. Homemade pasta is exceptional, fish is superb as are desserts and salads."

  • "We picked the restaurant because of its proximity to Lincoln Center and because it offered a home style Italian menu. The restaurant was fine in terms of location and ambiance. The waiter was just chock full of information about the restaurant and the owners, TMI in my opinion. While the portions were generous, the food was not special in any way. Too heavy and nondescript. I would not return to this restaurant."

  • "My first time eating here and definitely won't be my last. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic. The food was wonderful. We had concert tickets and they made sure to get us out in time. It was so enjoyable i will definitely give myself more time to enjoy it the next time and will hopefully be able to try the outdoor space. My only disappointment was that our waitress did not tell us the complete list of specials and when we heard them given at another table we realized we would have ordered one of the specials."

  • "Unfortunately there was a lack of servers and we had to wait more than an hour for our first course. We also had to wait for bread to be put on the table for almost that whole time. Fortunately we were not in a hurry but did note others that left without dining. Management could have been more accomodating for their shortcomings"

  • "Party of five, most of us chose a special. Everybody loved their food. Service was excellent. Sure wish every restaurant meal was this enjoyable."

  • "My friends and I recently went to Joanne, despite hearing that it had mixed reviews and often gets overshadowed by its relation to fame. We needed a place for brunch close to the movies and I am always in search of down-home meatballs and tomato sauce. I loved it so much that I am compelled to write this, my very first review! The meatballs were amazing, the food was simple, comforting and tasty. I am tired of highbrow, overpriced takes on italian. This tasted like I was back in my grandma's kitchen! Slow but only because the bartender was left alone to be the sole server after some staff called off. BUT SHE WAS AMAZING! Hardest working staff, running around, serving up unlimited mimosas and not missing a beat! My new neighborhood spot!"

  • "We decided to try "Joanne". We used to go to the former "Vince & Eddie's" a lot. The space is intimate and seemed more claustrophic than before. Tables are very close together and it's tight quarters. It was also very noisy. Towards the end of the meal, people left for theatre and it got quieter. The Italian food was good. Generally, it wasn't outstanding, but the Eggplant Balls were excellent. Our server was very friendly."

  • "Friendly professional service with two wonderful pasta main dishes made for a great dinner before the movies. A wonderful very reasonable locl find in the Lincoln Center area."

  • "Loved it ! food was wonderful, space has a great vibe and the family history and story is wonderful. Wait staff exceptionally professional but warm and obvioysly proud to be working there. Salads were top top notch, Lasagne excellent. Cannot wait to bring family there and try some other specialties. We drank scotch instead of wine - perhaps a mistake, liquor is pricey but overall great value in prices and plates. We will try some of the recommended wines next time as the food recommendations were spot on!"

  • "Short staffed so service suffered. The food was great though!"

  • "Food was excellent, service was excellent, what more do you need? I will definitely be coming back on my next trip to NYC. There are lots of other restaurants, but I was initially interested because of the tie to Lady Gaga. Love her, and love her family's restaurant!"

  • "We tried this place for a friends birthday- very daring taking a real Italian to a NY Italian restaurant. He loved it! The eggplant balls were a hit - very authentic. The service was friendly and unhurried. The bar looked like it would be a fun place to stop by for a drink and a light bite. We will definitely come back- would love to try the special pork ragu! The fireplace was a nice touch, but we we were a little overheated - we were seated right next to it. Our server graciously kept the flame low! The outdoor area looked like it would be fun in the Spring - as did the private dining area. Overall- a great UWS find. Sorry it took us so long to try it ! (closed for Sat lunch?!) Also- a little too noisy due to the low ceiling."

  • "I went with a friend, and Joanne's was a wonderful find! We enjoyed our meals so much and the sangria we got was delicious! The staff was so friendly and welcoming, and had great suggestions on good choices!"

  • "The foo d was good. They did'nt have enough waiters and were out of three menu items at 6:15 pm. There seems to be a lack of management skill here."
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "Basic, barely passable Italian food. Everything covered in too much cheese. And the noise level - deafening. Unfortunately, disappointing."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "This was our first visit to Joanne. Based on reviews, we weren't expecting too much but thought it was worth a try. We are so glad we did! The food was excellent, as was the service. With the relatively inexpensive tab, Joanne Trattoria proved to be quite a find!"

  • "Joanne's is what all restaurants should be--welcoming, delicious, comfortable, well priced. Home made pasta is a special treat as are the desserts. The "go-to" place in the Lincoln Center neighborhood."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We are always looking for new places in the Lincoln Center area. Joanne's is a great addition. The food was excellent. I had pasta with eggplant "meatballs' which was yummy. My husband had chicken and sausage dish which was spicy - for him it was perfect. The service was friendly and got us out in plenty of time for the performance we were seeing. We will go back! For a lighter fare, there is pizza which looked yummy. We may try it on our next visit."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Very average across the board. With all of the options on the UWS not compelling enough to return any time soon."

  • "If this place were in a mall in NJ it would be outstanding, but there are a lot of other places near Lincoln Center that are better. Here, you need to do something that makes your place stand out other than knowing their family relation to Lady Gaga. Service by the waitstaff was fine but I had issues with the management. I dislike it if I check in with my opentable reservation but then get an email asking why I didn't show. It is a hassle I really dislike. The food was fine with big portions. I would have preferred less food but more refined cooking and presentations. I would not recommend it considering the surrounding alternatives. But if they are all booked this place would certainly be quite adequate."

  • "Very nice restaurant with a great menu. Very laid back, good service but not at all pretentious like many lincoln center restaurants."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "What a great little spot. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was so cozy. Perfect for my 40th birthday celebration with girlfriends. But, I'd love to take my husband back the next time I visit NYC!"

  • "The garlic rolls had no taste couldn't taste the garlic at all. Sauce seemed like it may not have been home made. In general the food was ok. The place was nothing on looks. They didn't have all the wines that are pretty standard in most restaurants."
    Dined on 3/2/2014
  • "Great recommendation from server about raw brussel sprouts salad. Homemade pasta (pappardella) definitely worthwhile. Quite tasty and much improved menu choices from our initial outing here."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "High quality food, excellent service, reasonable prices. Very enjoyable dining experience. Shaved Brussels sprouts salad and stuffed mushrooms were especially good appetizers. Chilean sea bass and lemon chicken with artichokes were excellent entrees as well. Friendly, professional service, and charming ambiance were a plus. Highly recommended."

  • "I loved this restaurant. In the back is a small, special occasion dining room. A great thing to know about if I'm planning a family dinner or small party. However, Joanne's needs to remove a table on nights it's using that room. My seat and that of the diner at the table on the other side of the door made the opening to that room too small for for wait-staff to enter and exit without a constant stream of bumps and requests that we move in. Not a big deal, but it got tiresome during an otherwise lovely evening."

  • "I went to dinner with my brother. When we arrived at the place, a gentleman guy confirmed our reservation and took and kept our coats. The ambience was so cozy. Emily was our waitress, she was so kind and explained everything we asked. I ordered a lasagna dellacasa with bolognese and my brother ordered penne with broccoli rabe and sausage, the portion was big and delicious; I was really full after ate it, but I wanted to taste also a dessert, so we ordered the red velvet cake, I can not describe how delicious it was and big too, so we shared the portion."

  • "Everyone here is service oriented and fun. We were a table of 7 and we tried "everything" you can imagine. The meatballs and eggplant were delicious as was a "special" pulled pork and pasta dish. Kudos and gratias to our waitress, Adriana!"

  • "We had a wonderful evening at Joanne's. The ambience was relaxed, cozy and warm, and we felt very welcome and cared for. The food was delicious - especially the lasagna! Our waiter was great - very personable and attentive. Between the fireplace and the garden outside, it's a neighborhood gem. Looking forward to going back."

  • "Picked this place because it's near the Beacon Theatre and mostly because my name is Joanne...LOL...had no idea of its history or celebrity connection... pleasantly greeted by the host; Stefan, which was extremely personable and accomodating since we were a few minutes late...our waitress was great too and was patient with all the questions from our party....everyone ordered different entrees and we were all totally satisfied with the portions, presentation and quality.....small dining area but felt homey, especially since we sat near the fireplace......great place so will be back soon!!!!"

  • "I found this listing on Open Table when I was searching for available restaurants near Lincoln Center for Valentine's Day. A girl friend and I had tickets to the ballet and wanted to dine out beforehand. This was a short walk from the theater, and it's a small little restaurant that offers great ambiance. It's smaller, so it was full but not insanely crowded, especially for this holiday. our waitress was prompt and polite, and our dinners arrived shortly. I had the spaghetti bolognese (included meat of beef, pork, veal) and I ate every single bite. The portions are hearty but not overwhelming like a Cheesecake Factory, so you can eat a full plate without feeling gorged. The host gave each lady a long stemmed pink rose as we left!"

  • "We needed a quick meal cause of traffic and we got it. The restaurant was almost empty but it was cold and a Wed night. So cannot tell you about noise level if it is full or speed of service. Tables were quite close together so am guessing it would be quite noisy and crowded if even half full. We only had two dishes and each dish was just ok. One was a special and we did not ask the price. It was significantly more that the items on the menu. The other was a simple lemon chicken and the chicken was rubbery. We think the decaf coffee was instant. We will not be back."

  • "Friend and I were looking for a restaurant near Lincoln Center. Joanne turned out to be perfect. Great food, ambience and excellent service. Crowded at the bar with people waiting for tables when we left, but we did not feel rushed. Easy 5 minute walk to Lincoln Center and much better than the very crowded restaurants across from the center. Tables at Joanne Trattoria were nicely spaced apart for east conversation. We will return here soon."

  • "Enjoyable dinner. Waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed and server had no idea what any of the dishes were that he was bringing to our table , nor who had ordered them. He seemed young ( still wearing braces) and needs more training."

  • "Joanna is the epitome of a great restaurant--cordial wait staff, cozy room, blazing fireplace, and delicious cuisine, particularly home made pasta, plus those desserts. All of this at a reasonable (for New York) price."

  • "Joanne Trattoria is great spot for dinner before a performance at Lincoln Center or a neighborhood movie. The ambience is inviting. The food is tasty. The service is excellent. Will definitely return."

  • "This is a restaurant that is opened by Lady Gaga's family. The food does not draw you in. We decided to try this restaurant as it was close to the Lincoln Square movie theater. The food is family style but its not great. It's ok, not flavorful enough. Also the fact that it was opened by Lady Gaga so we thought that we would give it a try."
