Diner Reviews
  • "Food was fantastic, great service and it has a very local feel."

  • "Enjoyable. Very good for before or after a performance at Lincoln Center."

  • "Our new favorite spot on tuesday nights. Thanks to the fabulous bartender, Chris, who was entertainment all in himself. The food is outstanding, the ambience is old New York. Get the meatballs, and get the Lasagne."

  • "Yes, we dined there because of Gaga & because we're huge fans. But that turned out to be quite irrelevant. The decoration is very nice & the restaurant is cosy. In winter I'm sure they light the fireplace which must be perfect. However, the quality of the food was disappointing. Not the best pizza we've tried and certainly not the best risotto. Moreover, there were no vegetarian options so i ended up having linguini with some fried vegetables that I could have cooked better in my kitchen. Last but not least, if you are looking for a quiet dining experience, you won't find it there. It can't get any louder in there, believe me. We visit NY frequently and we'd looked forward to dine at Joanne but I'm afraid we were very disappointed."

  • "The menu has a variety of simple and tasty Italian classics including pizza and a variety of salads and pasta dishes. The food was like homemade and the service was excellent. We sat outside in a small shady terrace. Very nice!"

  • "Very pleasant, causual dinning experience; only three blocks from Lincoln Center."

  • "I have been to Joanne's twice, the first time the food was quite good. The second time, we ordered the fresh pasta and we got NOT fresh pasta. It was regular dried spaghetti in a radicchio sauce that might have been ok with a little parmesan (which did improve it somewhat). I know I could make that better myself, because I would at least taste it to make sure it had some flavor. We pointed out to the waitress that the pasta wasn't fresh and she gave us a complementary dessert, but frankly neither one of our choices was very good. The ricotta cheesecake was ok, but had very little flavor, but the cannelloni tasted stale and was stuffed with unsweetened ricotta. I have had good cannelloni, this wasn't."

  • "My first time at this restaurant and found the food to be "just good" but not great or outstanding. Tables were tight and close to one another. Service was very good and the drinks were also very good. I'd be willing to go back to this restaurant again, but will probably try other restaurants in the area."

  • "Unpretentious, with reasonable entrée prices. In this neighborhood, very hard to find. You'll get hit with prices of extras, like salad and dessert, drink prices. But if you enjoy well-prepared Italian food, not your red sauce variety, this is a cozy place to go either before a Lincoln Center performance or not. We were there early so don't know how noisy it gets later on in the evening."

  • "Food was delicious, service was good, authentic reminded me of Rome."

  • "We've been to Joanne's before and the food is quite good, however this past Saturday, the atmosphere was just frenetic. Perhaps they were short on staff, but our waitress was actually running back and forth. If you wanted more water or more bread, you literally had to snag someone in mid-run. It was not a relaxing meal. We left after we ate our main dishes and had dessert and coffee at a nearby bakery. Try it during the week."

  • "This restaurant survives on it proximity to Lincoln Center. Service was haphazard. Had to ask for waitress more than once. Had to ask for bread. Portions are small. Food is unremarkable. I had eggplant parm. 3 small pieces of eggplant. Huh? Friend had lemon chicken. While tender, portion was lacking. Shared a cannoli. Filling was gritty and not creamy. The best I can say is I've had worse"

  • "table did not seem very clean, food mediocre, pasta and pizza is what i would recommend only"

  • "The food was good Italian. The restaurant was 2 blocks from Lincoln Center. They adjusted the service to allow us to get out in time for the ballet. The wine selection was good but not extensive. A lot of Italian wines were offered. They do have a very nice back patio for outdoor dining, but it was closed that day due to rain."

  • "The pictures on the website do not do it justice. It's much nicer in person. The back patio is really pretty and the room is cozy. The staff is very nice. I also saw Lady Gaga while there. It's really underrated. Perfect before ballet \ Lincoln Center."

  • "Dinner was wonderful! Outstanding red velvet cake! The staff was excellent, nice and were interested in our visit there from out of town."
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "This was an ideal place to come from Lincoln Center. We celebrated a graduation. There are many menu choices and I think the pasta dishes were the best. I have been here before."
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "Got seated on time. Everything was average. Nothing was special. It was reasonably priced for the location. I would eat there again if I had something to see at Lincoln Center."
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "Our waitress was not the most efficient waitress. It took about a half an hour after sitting down before our order was taken. After receiving our food, waitress never came back to check how things were. Maybe she was overwhelmed so I don't know if it was her fault or the restaurant for being understaffed. "

  • "the caprese salad was excellent. the lemon chicken was okay. the broccoi rabe was excellent. very good service. attractive restaurant."
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "Decent service, very noisy. Eggplant ball appetizer tasted like sawdust swathed in tomatoe sauce. Pasta special with truffles tried to make up for lack of flavor with heavy cream. Even the eggplant Parmesan was only fair. This place needs to add flavor to its menu & soften the noise. Excellent service. "

  • "Given wine list but told many were not available, including the chard we wanted. Tried the one chard they had....fruit punch!! Asked the server to let us go the liquor store and bring in a bottle, which she allowed us to do. It was the highlight of our meal. I ordered the romaine and tomato salad but was brought the caprese. Server apologized but I didn’t get my salad until after my hubby finished his app. The lettuce looked like came from a bag from the supermarket and was then thrown in the bowl . I had to dig under it to find the 6 pieces of diced tomato. The mains were ordinary and tasteless. Despite having a coupon from the restaurant for a free app, it wasn't worth it. Don’t bother ."

  • "This establishment serves good Italian food at reasonable prices. It's located minutes from Lincoln Center and is good for both pre/post theater dining."
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "Should improve the food for the price...way toooo noisy....encourage diners to keep voices down if they don't have the sense to do so... Nothing particularly impressive at all"
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "We went for a lunch prior to the ballet. We were the only diners! The lunch menu is very limited although the pastas are very sharable. We shared two pasta dishes and a salad. I was surprised they "up charge" for "fresh, homemade" pasta...thus acknowledging the regular pasta is from a box! The pasta primavera was very tasty (with homemade pasta) although I could have been happy with less oil. The penne (not fresh homemade) with sausage and broccoli rabe was also good but again, a little less oil would have been my preference."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "The food was mediocre. It was hard to find any eggplant in the "Eggplant appetizer"... too much breading. We ordered the special Alfredo dish with mushrooms. It was tasty. But, they were very stingy with the sauce. It was hard to find the sauce in the dish and I had to ask for extra sauce. The cappaccino was awful. Service staff were pleasant and the restaurant is comfortable. But, it does need a good cleaning... the picture frames were dusty."

  • "Dined here before seeing a show at Lincoln Center. Quaint atmosphere, good food, reasonable prices, excellent service. Wine list was limited. Very nice neighborhood restaurant, and perfect location for pre-(Lincoln Center) theater dining."

  • "My boyfriend and I visited the restaurant the first night in NYC and loved it. Great first choice for our first time in the city!!"

  • "Wonderful as always....This has to be my 12th visit..always the food is predictable and so is the service.. I would recommend Joannes always"

  • "From the decor to the friendly staff to the fact that it's Lady Gaga's father's restaurant, Joanne Trattoria was beautiful and elegant and quaint. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the eggplant parm, which was a first for me, and it was awesome! Chris, my server, was very polite and friendly and funny and he worked the small dining area well between giving off specials to taking orders, everything flowed nicely. I will definitely come back and plan on bringing friends because it's so awesome!"

  • "Good food with traditional and family touch .... Restaurant decoration and atmosphere can be easily improved by removing all unecessary staff stored between the bar and the dining room .... Not friendly, just messy! Overall good quality for price in that neighbourhood"

  • "Made a reservation through Open 'Table and ended up seated at the bar. The bartender was also waiting on several tables and the restaurant was packed. Service was slow as a result and the ambiance was very hectic. Food was OK but the noise level and uncomfortable position detracted. I am sure that if I knew that my reservation resulted in such a seating, I would not go back."

  • "Thank goodness for open table! I was able to quickly look for an Italian restaurant near the Met and grab an early reservation before the performance. I noted in my reservation that it was my guys birthday - and the staff at Joanne's were terrific! We were seated right away (like I said, it was early!) the waitress helped us choose wine to our liking, was helpful answering questions about the specials, and the meal was brought promptly and everything was delicious. I highly recommend the meatballs :) The waitress brought a candle and several guests helped me to sing Happy Birthday. A very warm, pleasant space with a small outdoor patio, Tuscan colors and close dining (NYC style) kicked off our evening in fabulous fashion!"

  • "We were extremely pleased with our dinner at Joanne's. The dining room was pleasant with skylights and a patio when the weather is warm. The dinner was delicious -- my pork rib noodle special was great and my husband liked his scallop and shrimp pasta dish. Cannoli for dessert were fresh and wonderful. The service was attentive and the wine list has some reasonable selections. A nice place to eat off the Columbus Ave main drag. Definitely would eat there again!"

  • "This was my first time dining at Joanne Trattoria and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a nice restaurant with friendly service. I really enjoyed the Meatball appetizer and the Penne with broccoli di rabe. It's a good local restaurant and I look forward to returning soon."

  • "This restaurant is owned by Lady Gaga's parents. This was my first time there, and I was pleasantly surprised. The main dining area is narrow and a bit crowded, but not uncomfortably so. Our waiter started by asking if we had a curtain to make (we did) and he assured us he would expedite service. Everything worked out well. He brought us a taste of several wines we were considering, which was a great help. The food was quite good (I had a daily special of pappardelli with pork ragu, an excellent value compared with the regular menu prices). Overall, Joanne Trattoria is an very good addition to the Lincoln Center area; I will return."

  • "Our first time at this restaurant. We were underwhelmed by the food. Prices, however, were reasonable. Also, quite noisy. "

  • "Our first visit to Joanne's was a very nice surprise. A warm welcome awaited us when we arrived. They have an excellent array of appetizers, main dishes and pasta dishes. We had Caesar salad to start, then a delicious lasagna and an equally delicious eggplant Parmesan. The noise level was very moderate so we could have a conversation without shouting. Service was very attentive, prices were reasonable and it was a very short walk to Lincoln Center. We'll definitely be back."

  • "My dinner companion and I were in a hurry to get to the Met for a 7:30 curtain. All we had to do was tell them that, and they graciously rushed our service while being relaxed and picked perfect wines to compliment our food. They turned what was a possible harried situation into a relaxed one. The food was great. "
