Diner Reviews
  • "JiRaffe has regularly been a reliable restaurant, sometimes with interesting dishes on the menu. This time it was fine, enjoyable and our friends were happy with the food. My dish was good, but certainly not great, however over all it is quite satisfying."

  • "JiRaffe was an outstanding restaurant. We did make reservations for a Saturday night, and though we showed up thirty minutes early they sat us right away. That being said, I wouldn't expect to show up there with out first making reservations as the restaurant was packed. Food was amazing, and the atmosphere was very chic. I would highly recommend this place for a date night. A few people did bring their children, but it made them look rude and inconsiderate of the other guests. I would not call this a family restaurant. This is a high end, gourmet experience. Bring your wallet and leave the kids at home!"

  • "Wonderful food and friendly staff. It was my first visit to this restaurant, and I will definately go again. Mushroom soup was out of heaven. So were two types of fish we tried. Absolutely recommended!!!"

  • "I had high hopes for this place, but sadly the food all came out salty! At first I thought it was just me, but as the rest of the diners at the table ate their food it became clear that I was not the only one. Unfortunately the wait staff did not come by to see how the food was once served and we had to call someone over to take care of the matter. Although the chef did re-fire all of our dishes we were full by the time the food came out and had to take it to go. As a former chef myself I would have comped the dessert, but no such luck. I would have liked to go back there, but after this first impression it is going to be a hard sell."

  • "I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something a little extra special. It worked well for me to celebrate my birthday. The wait staff was very attentive, the food was plentiful and delightfully presented and the setting was as intimate as needed."

  • "Simply the best food we have eaten in three months of living in the US. Book a table without hesitation. The food was all delicious, from the exemplary mushroom soup amuse guele to the exquisite desserts, every course was a triumph of flavour and texture with delicate and fragrant seasoning. Particularly good were the gnocci and the loup de mer. Portions are not overwhelming (no doggie bags in sight) which is a refreshing change, and plates are well presented, with attentive and friendly service."

  • "Moving to the Westside has it's advantages, and trying new restaurants is one of them. Unfortunately, JiRaffe fell short. The drinks were really good, the ambiance and presentation were great but the food was pretty flat and the service was fine at best. The price is really high and I expected more at that price point. I will continue my Westside restaurant exploration and will mark this off the list but can't justify the experience with the price."

  • "We absolutely loved this restaurant. It was our first time eating at Jiraffe but it will not be our last. Everyone was so attentive, food was savory and left us wanting more! Everything we ate was delicious. I had the pork chops and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the grilled fish and it was also cooked perfectly."

  • "Very good food overall, and a nice place for conversation and an un-rushed setting. Delicious risotto!"

  • "I've been looking forward to trying this restaurant. Service was a little slow initially but the staff was appropriately friendly. The cocktails were yummy. However, nobody at our table of 6 was really impressed with their food. Flavors were very basic and not very exciting. None of our food had a "wow factor". I'd say it was just ok. Not worth a return trip, in my opinion."

  • "My husband and I had dinner at JiRaffe for our 16th wedding anniversary. It was perfect! We sat upstairs where it was darker and more quiet. Our waiter was fabulous. He understood that we wanted a slower pace for dinner and that we wanted to focus on each other, and he did not rush us to order drinks or food. For dinner I had the mushroom ravioli appetizer and it was fabulous! My husband had trout which was delicious! For dessert we shared a sticky toffee tart which was amazing, and we gobbled it up. I wanted to lick the plate. Our dessert also came with a candle and "Happy Anniversary" written in beautiful script. We felt special, we felt that the restaurant valued our patronage, and we had a wonderful romantic evening alone!"

  • "Took my GF here for a 2 year anniversary, and was expecting more. First, we switched tables and either the owner or manager seemed to be making a stink about it. On the way out neither he nor the greeting guy could be bothered to say anything upon our exit. Lame after dropping $200 on a meal.. A meal... Soup was good.. the entre was ew. Perhaps we selected wrong. Service was nice otherwise... It wasn't what some of the reviews depicted."

  • "We've gone here on and off for many years, and have never been disappointed. Not inexpensive, but definitely worth the price of admission."

  • "The tables are placed a bit too close together. My husband and I can hardly get into the seats. I have read a lot of good reviews about this restaurant. So I was disappointed when our onion soup is cool inside and the cheese didn't melt properly. Although the Port Wine Braised Lamb tastes amazing and tender. And the chocolate truffle cake is highly recommended. It has a very rich chocolate taste without being too sweet. I am not sure if it is a regular item in the menu. I have called to make sure they have the cake and I was being told it depends on the pastry chef that day."

  • "Food and service great as always. A bit noisy downstairs, especially on a Saturday night. Request a seat upstairs for easier conversation."

  • "Jiraffe hit all the right notes. As others have mentioned the food is delicious and inventive and every single person we interacted with was warm and welcoming, no pretentiousness detected. Zilch. Chef was at the front door when we arrived (it was an early reservation) and he was charming and personable- recommended a specialty drink he'd created with Guava - and it was as delicious as he claimed. Waitstaff etc. all terrific. Got the vibe that they all truly enjoyed working there. We will be back. Thank you."

  • "I was on business trip in CA and was looking for a good dinner. Found very good reviews for JiRaffe and decided to give it a try. That was a smart decision! Service was friendly with minimal wait, recommendations on what to order were just spot on, food was great, and that cup of mushroom soup 'on the house' was unbelievably delicious. Planning to come back in a month!"

  • "I wanted to take my fiance out for a nice night on Valentine's Day. My expectations were high due to the fact of how people spoke about this place. Week's before, I was excited to try their black bass which was one of the options of their pre set vday menu. Restaurants tend to do a pre set based during that holiday evening and exploit the price generally because well us gentleman's would like to show our appreciation to our significant other and I wouldn't mind paying the price for a lovely dinner especially when the price of the food matched the quality that we ate. In this instance, it was not! First, they changed my long awaited choice of entree to some kind of breaded fish that I could've gotten at Long John Silver's dollar menu!"

  • "Don't get me wrong, the food was good but not great. The service was good but not great. I would have expected to dine at a table that had a table "cloth" rather than a table paper at these prices. Once was enough for me/"

  • "Jiraffe food is pretty decent but it is not a value proposition. Relative to the cost, it's adequate but there are probably other local restaurants with equal or better food and selections at a much lower cost. The menu is a bit limited. Ambience is good, sitting is relatively tight."

  • "We have been dining regularly at Jiraffe for many years, and found this week's journey there to be typical of the excellence that has characterized our experience at the restaurant all this time. We had a remarkable warm goat cheese salad, an Angus beef filet and coriander encrusted Tuna. Everything was excellent, the service was brisk and attentive, and the room, unlike so many fine restaurants these days. was not excessively noisy."

  • "we enjoyed the place and the ambiance. The chef is very talented and mixed flavors extraordinarily. He also offer a plate to a vegan in our party, that was totally pleased with the offer. We will surely recommend this place. Desserts were very good too."

  • "I booked the reservation weeks in advance through Open table and took an early seating: 6:15pm. I arrived a few minutes before that to be told that I was checked-in and that my table would be ready shortly. When they saw my annoyance, they offered a terrible table upstairs near a door frequented by the wait staff which I refused. The alternative was another table that would have been better but it would be a 15-minute wait. We were eventually seated downstairs at a very nice window table about 20 minutes later. I believe that when you make a reservation, especially an early one, that you should never have to wait. Otherwise, the found was delicious."

  • "The food and service were excellent! The owner even gave my wife and me each a complementary glass of sparkling wine while we waited for our table."

  • "As always, the food was delicious - the mushroom soup they serve as an amuse bouche is amazing, and should be served as an appetizer, and the seafood risotto is probably the best in LA. I think the server this time around must have been new as he didn't seem to understand the menu or what we had ordered."

  • "Every bite was was infused with distinctive flavors. The service was attentive but they were slow to take an order as if they needed the kitchen to warm up. Well worth the wait. My clients were extremely pleased with the food, no plate was left with even a single bite."

  • "Reservation @ 8:30. Seated @ 9:30. Long wait didn't matter. Staff was frantically pleasing everyone as they were running way behind this particular evening. The food & dining experience was well worth waiting for. Amazing! Awesome! Superb! The best meal I have ever had in 40 years dining out. This includes all top rated restaurants in big cities across America. Owner Rafael was genuine, humble and ultra caring. Once again, the food was stupendous! We will be back on our next visit to Santa Monica. Good luck to JiRaffe, entire staff, & owner Rafael."
