Diner Reviews
  • "I have to say the food was really good. I was disappointed with the atmosphere. On line it looked to be this vibrant fun restaurant. We thought we'd be coming to this great outdoor "patio" with music playing. The outdoor seating was just along the sidewalk so disappointed with that. Felt like more of your average family greek restaurant. Loved the food but I'm about both - food & atmosphere. Probably wouldn't go back."

  • "Went with two friends and all three of us said we would come back. Loads of free parking, excellent service, easy to hear the conversation at the table. Each of us had something different and we were all pleased with our food. All of us would recommend Jimmy's to our friends and family. A suburban gem."

  • "We had the nicest waitress. Got there before the rest of our group, and were seated and offered those yummy garlic rolls. Very good selection of seafood on the menu. We had the crab bite appetizers and shrimp egg rolls - both very good. I had the lobster mac and cheese - it had lots of lobster and the mac and cheese was nice and cheesy. I have enough left over for another 2 meals. Other people got the crab legs and various shrimp dishes. Everyone liked their food. Did not have room for dessert, but the waitress said the key lime pie is excellent, made from fresh squeezed limes, so would like to try that next time."

  • "The only reason we stayed was because we had a Groupon. The waiter was obviously new, undertrained and overwhelmed. Wrong appetizer brought to table, manager contacted, he deliver the correct one but oysters without crackers or lemon???? I order the canyon river salmon (pricey) grilled and my wife order sauteed scallops. The salmon was covered in some kind of oil and the scallops were breaded and deep fried. The waiter said that the kitchen makes the decision as to how the scallops are prepared. The food was extremely disappointing and there were no refills on drinks unless we asked for them. We won't go back and won't recommend to anyone. In fact, I doubt this place will be in business long with the lack of food quality and service."

  • "Copper River Salmon! It doesn't get any better! Hula Friday makes you think you are in the Islands. . .great music."

  • "We, a party of 11 including children and adults, chose this restaurant because of their Aloha Friday- which included Hawaiian music from 7-9. With the excellent service, festive music and terrific food, we all enjoyed ourselves and will be back. The manager made sure we had another table when I asked if we could have another closer to hear the music. Friendly and courteous service. Great shrimp dishes too."

  • "Excellent menu, with some unique dishes not typically seen in Chicago, The Crab Vermicelli was excellent as was the Seafood Gumbo, Blue Crab appetizer was very good. Service as excellent. I would definitely go back again."

  • "We enjoyed a nice meal at Jimmy's. The menu was varied with less and more expensive options, and the fish tacos were pretty good, as was the shrimp fried rice."

  • "I thought the food was excellent, but 30.00 for a tuna steak on a pile of rice is a little much. The crab leg special was a little better, but was 1 crab leg for 20.00."

  • "Very disappointed! There was so much garlic in the bread and the green beans, they were inedible. The seafood was good, but way too expensive. Our bill was $140.00 for 4 without drinks and one of us eating pasta. We will not return."

  • "My husband and I had dinner, he had halibut, and I had the New York steak, the fish was absolutely to die for and the steak was so tender and juicy and Im a big critic on steaks and this was yet the best by far, the service was outstanding, this is a must go to restaurant we had a hard decision on what to order everything just sounded so divine."

  • "Best Fresh, Reasonably priced seafood in the western 'burbs! AND. . .a prime meat burger or steak if you desire. . .all under the same roof!"

  • "Went to Jimmy's for Father's Day dinner. Two of our guests love seafood, so we chose Jimmy's based on their menu selection. Good options to order either a full dinner or sandwich with sides. Salad/soup quality was excellent. Seafood that was ordered (blackened halibut, coconut shrimp) was very good. Service was excellent...we had a last minute change in our guest numbers, and they handled it without any issues. Our waitress gladly found out answers to questions that we had about menu items. Would not hesitate to go back."

  • "Everything was excellent right down to the immaculately clean restrooms. Was visited or greeted by both manager and owner to make sure we were satisfied. Best and most tender steak and lobster I've had in a very long time. Saving up since we spent a good amout so we can go back again Anxious to bring friends and additional family members"

  • "Great Fresh fish. Our server Cindy was outstanding. She was very helpful in suggesting dinner options and different Mai Tai's. 2 of us had the Copper River Salmon Asian style. It melted in your mouth. Another had the Hawaian Ahi Tuna with onions on a sizzling platter. He enjoyed it, as he ate the whole piece. And then the last meal was blackened Grouper which was light flaky and delicious. You will also enjoy the fresh warm Garlic Rolls. Had a great time with friends and outstanding food. Definitely will be returning for another delicious dinner."

  • "This was the second time we ate here. The food is outstanding - we were a table of 8 and everyone had a variety of food and loved it all. Service was very good too and assisted us for a member's gluten free diet"

  • "We went at 5:30 and the place was dead but picked up as time went on. Service (Cindy) was great and the food was good. Atmosphere is a little bland but nice overall."

  • "I had the Copper River Salmon and it was excellent. My girlfriend had fish tacos. My only complaint was they charged me a $2 upcharge for asparagus. Will return with no problem."

  • "The menu reminded us of Chinn's on Odgen a little, but the interior is much nicer. Garlic rolls brought to your table to enjoy right away. Fresh fish flown-in, shrimp 7-ways, mai-tais, paper menu ... The entrees are expensive. We ordered the salt n pepper calamari - very good. I ordered a specialty of the house, crab vermicelli, and although it was delicious, there wasn't that much crab meat and it was $25. Next time I'd stick to the fish. My husband ordered Mahi Mahi (6-8 oz) and he said it was delicious. Entrees come with 1-side. Everything else is ala carte. Skip the coconut cake, it looks better than it tastes. $100 for 2 with one glass of wine. "

  • "We went to Jimmys for the first time a few months ago and was very happy with our meal. We decided to go again and take some people with us. It was a difference experience than our first visit. The first time we ordered clam chowder, it was very good, the second time it was like getting a different soup, it was pink in color, lacked flavor and clams. We had the lobster special it was okay but it took forever to get our food and the restaurant was not crowded at all. The waiter never inquired how our food was. One thing that you want in a restaurant is consistency. We did not get that from our 2 times at Jimmys. Even though the restaurant was pretty much empty the noise level was high, hard to hold a conversation. Try 1 more time? Maybe."

  • "From the moment we walked in the door, I knew I was going to enjoy my evening! Jimmy and his staff were outstanding and entertaining. It was so worth the drive from Grayslake We can't wait to go back!"

  • "It's not fine dining so I'm not sure why the prices are so high. It's a casual feeling restaurant and the food is very good - but the prices are too high for what it is. There are many restaurants in the area that offer good food at more reasonable prices so I don't think we will go back."

  • "I can't aeem not to order their egg rolls. They put peanut butter or something ,not sure as I write this. Excellelent. Lobster roll was very good.seafood bisque was very good. Another thing I can't seem not to order. Wive had the soft shell crabs that was very tasty. Great lunch."

  • "This was our first visit to the restaurant. Our dinner was excellent. The fish was so fresh. I highly recommend the halibut prepared Asian style. Very flavorful and healthy."

  • "Endless waiting for a table even though we had reservations. While our server was terrific / nice, he was clearly over worked and the resulting service was slow and terrible. We witnessed tons of people leave before and after being seated because of the delays and issues. While the food was decent/average, the service made it a negative experience. Will not return."

  • "We had an 11 person reservation at 4:30, including 2 one year olds and 3 other children. Only after we ordered and waited for 20 minutes were we told that it would be an additional 45 minutes for the kids orders and 60 minutes for ours. The staff was completely overwhelmed, and I'm not sure anyone will ever know what was going on in the kitchen. The rush to get the food out resulted in pretty terrible food. There is no way we would ever go back here."

  • "Never had a worse dining experience ever in 40 years of dining out! Made reservations for 415p on Mothers Day for party of 3. Arrived and promptly seated. Waitress greeted, got drinks and later took order. Quite a number of food and drink items on the menu are out. First warning sign. Soup arrived and was good. Then...no further food. Not much food at all out of the kitchen for any tables. Waited over an hour still no food. Wait staff apologizing but still nothing for us or most other tables. Still seating more tables! Restaurant full but very little food anywhere. Finally at 6p waitress asks if we would prefer to leave and have a free meal at a future date. No thank you! We will never be back to this poorly run restaurant."

  • "Waited for 2 hours for our food to arrive and it never did. Management repeatedly asked us to wait just a few more minutes before we decided enough was enough. If you want to plagiarize Bob Chinn's and call it your own, you probably should try to mimic their service too."

  • "We srrived at 4 but did not receive our food until 5:30. the kitchen was short on help and many people were walking out.The waitress kept spologizing for the delay. This was the first time we tried the opentable app.. We were extremely disappointed. We spoke to the manager who apologized and reduced our bill. Unfortunately we won't return"

  • "The service was pretty bad on Mother's Day. The cooks apparantly showed up late, so menu's could not be ready until 30 minutes past our reservation time. The food was undercooked for some and overcooked for other's in our group. Ketchup, dipping sauces...all showed up late to the table. We won't come back. We thought we were on Candid Camera with the amount of things that went wrong from the time we walked in."

  • "Took hubby for birthday. Checked in early & sat at the bar. Later checked with host for our table but she lost our reservation(same host 30min later). We were seated but not in main dining area. Waiter stopped by, then another took over 10min later. No water, table was sticky. Food came fast, almost too fast but waiter apologized saying kitchen was in chaos & things were being “thrown all over the place back there”. Unnecessary, unprofessional. Food looked/smelled delicious but no utensils. After waiting 10min hubby got host to bring them, then she made a flippant gesture, rolled her eyes & said "no one knows what goes on with him". Crab was fresh, portions large, steak cooked perfectly, but service was immature & disappointing."

  • "The owner/manager walks around and chats with people - cleaning up tables every once in a while as well - tremendous! The food is exceptional and always tastes fresh. Wait staff is mediocre (hate to write this...), bringing wine late, appetizers and then the meal on top of the appetizer (literally had to scrape the oysters off the dish to make room for the meal)...will still go back as I know this as I'm sure this will improve. "

  • "The food was really good, however, for the price I expect to receive an adequate portion size. Between my husband and I, we had to order 4 entrees together to get full. The shrimp bowl comes filled with lettuce which you don't see until you eat 3 shrimp and realize there are about 7 in the entire entree for $15. The lobster mac & cheese was excellent. The strip steak and shrimp was pretty much not worth it. The steak is probably 3-4 oz of flat steak with 6 shrimp. Overall, I'd return, but only for dessert & drinks."

  • "Nice, clean restaurant. Friendly staff, plenty of entrees to chose from. Our waitress was not as attentive as one would like, sometimes not checking in for 10-15 minutes. Slow to bring warm bread, drinks. Food was good, though served warm, not hot. Mong Chong fish was oredered blackened, was delivered to table with barely any "blackening". Mong Chong lacked its usual texture and sweetness of the flesh."
