Diner Reviews
  • "It's been awhile since we've been here and the food was great. Our server was very slow and not helpful but it did not create a problem."

  • "I picked your restaurant from a online search for a good Steak Place. I wasn't disappointed. Everything was fantastic. We were a party of seven and everyone loved their meal, one especially enjoyed the Salmon, she was surprized a Steak place could do a Salmon so well. I do however think the prizes on the Steaks were a bit high considering their weren't any sides included. This won't keep me from coming back but I couldn't come back as often as I would like. We were celebrating a Birthday and it was a great experience. Thank-You"

  • "The only negative thing about dining at Jimmy V's was the volume of the live background music. My wife and I are senior citizens (as were many others in the dining area) and the loud background music was annoying. I enjoy background music, but not when it is so loud that you cannot comfortably talk with others at your table without having to raise you voice or shout. Personally I prefer soft background music. Whenever I dine at a restaurant with live music, it is invariably too loud. Thank you."

  • "Kitchen is spootty. Some food prepared very well. Others poorly and served cold. Management defensive and deaf to negative comments."

  • "We have been traveling 50 miles to Jimmy V's for years for special occasions and when we can slip away. They known for their steaks and have never let us down."

  • "Jimmy V's always makes our special occasions fantastic. The service is exceptional, food exquisite, and atmosphere of an old speakeasy is fun."

  • "This was out first time at Jimmy V's and we had a great dinner. Jared provided wonderful service and some great recommendations, our food was was good and the wine complemented the cuts perfectly. We would definitely go back."

  • "Thank you for a lovely evening. We all enjoyed the food and cocktails. I highly recommend this restaurant. I am having dreams of the Chocolate ganache layer cake and can't wait to have it again. I will be back."

  • "Jimmy V's may be considered pricey by some but we found it to be well worth the expense. In every sense of the word....you get what you pay for!"

  • "We've been to Jimmy V's numerous times and always enjoyed ourselves but tonight was quite disappointing. We waited one hour for our food to cook and then when it arrived my husband's $30+ dollar steak wasn't hot."

  • "Truly a memorable evening. We were seated within 2 minutes of arrival. Service, food, and wine were all top-notch and rivaled the 5-star restaurant at Fearrington."

  • "Excellent steakhouse. Great atmosphere for date night. Not stuffy like a Morton's"

  • "The food was good, but not worth the pricetag. The ambiance was exactly what I was hoping for though. We'll go again."

  • "We were left to wait 40 minutes before the waitress brought us some olives and breads. Then 15 minutes after that they brought out our appetizer. We waited over an hour to get our foods. I understand that it was a busy night but letting customers waiting so long to be offered something to munch on while waiting for their foods are not very considerate. But the foods are very good."

  • "We went here for Valentine's Day Dinner, we had the first seating, so you wouldn't think there would be any problems. We started our dinner with the Crab Dip. While the flavor was good, it was described as being broiled. What came out looked more like it had been scooped out of a container and dumped in the bowl . . . there was not broiling texture to the top of it. The next course, three of our party ordered the Lobster Bisque and I ordered the Spinach Salad. Lobster Bisque is a soup and they needed knives to cut up the lobster piece that was put in their soup. Our one son opted to not cut it and therefore only had the bisque part of his soup. All three said it was average at best. Fillet Migons were full of grizzle."

  • "Very disappointing evening! Even with reservations we waited for an hour to be seated. Once we were seated our waiter did not show up to begin our dining experience for another 10-15 minutes. The service at Jimmy Vs was terrible; our waiter was very slow and not attentive. I would not recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or a party of more than 4. They simply cannot handle it."

  • "There's not enough room here to adequately review everything about our experience. Suffice it to say we had 5:30 reservations and we left the restaurant at 7:15 having only been served apps and alcohol...complained to manager... no explanation... nothing taken off check...have contacted restaurant directly..."

  • "I had very high expectations for this restaurant. My husband and I both agreed that the food was ok but it seemed to be overly salted in many cases. The crab dip was the best thing we had all night and it was delicious! When we were seated it took about 10 minutes before anyone came to our table to order our drinks and after that service was effective but slow. Dinner took us about two hours. We just felt that for the price that we spent on the food we could have had a much better overall experience and better food quality at another restaurant."

  • "The food was good but too expensive. I could have gotten the same cut of neat at Lone Star for 1/4 of the price The wait staff was great The food took too long"

  • "been here several times. great food and service. wonderful atmosphere. very romantic and sometimes they have live performer."

  • "Steaks were good (except prime rib--not good), fish dish was excellent and other accompaniments were very good. Drinks were great too."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "As is historically true, Jimmy V's food is exceptional. As has dramatically changed over the last year or so, the service is abysmal. Part of three, with reservations. 15 mins for order to be taken. 50 mins for food to arrive. Saw our waitperson three times in 2 hours. Jimmy V's has lost their way. The food is good but the lack of attentiveness, reasonable timeliness is worth the price. We will now dine elsewhere."

  • "The food at Jimmy V's is consistently great each time we go. Steaks are cooked to perfection, sides are delicious, drinks are great. Service was a little slower than usual on this night - restaurant was very busy and it seemed like it took a long time for our main course to get to the table."

  • "I have had better food for much less money. On a postive, the atmosphere is great and fantastic service"

  • "We met with friends for a nice dinner. We ordered the steak, which was excellent, but could do with the the side fries. Also, the Chicken Oscar was well done. Perfect seasoning and moist. The mashed potatoes and asparagus topped with crab was also very good. We enjoyed our meals with a nice cabernet and a craft beer. The restaurant sat us immediately and the wait staff arrived shortly to attend to us."

  • "Were expected, table ready and friendly welcome. Wine and food very good. Great service! Continuous checking on without bothering conversation. Water glass never even went down before it was refilled. Recommended for special occasions but price negates weekly visit."

  • "Server was professional and extremely nice; however, there was a long delay between courses being served. Also, several in our party of five noticed and complained about the cold air blowing on us. At times, very uncomfortable. Food for the price was average."
    Dined on 12/19/2013
  • "First time eating there. Pricey, particularly since the food quality was variable. Seafood was excellent but pricey. One rib-eye was great, one was ok, and one had big sections of fat. Prime rib was inedible as it was 70% fat (no exaggeration). Beef medallions were very good. They took the prime rib off the bill and half of one rib-eye, but these cuts should never have escaped a decent kitchen - much less an expensive one."

  • "They were busy for the holidays which is understandably, but the service was unreasonably slow. Some of the food arrived cold but we were starving and didn't send back. Spent over $500 and wish we had chosen another place."

  • "Biggest Pro is the that my steak was delicious and though slightly overcooked was still the best steak i have had in the Raleigh area. The rest of the sides and appetizers were very good except for the garlic fries, they were very tasteless and bland. Biggest con was the service, ordered coffee and dessert and were almost finished with dessert before the coffee got there, then had to wait a long time to get our check when we asked for it, and waited so long for someone to pick it up and cash it out that I had to walk up to the hosts stand and ask for someone to run our check so we could leave. I would try the place again, but would hope that the service was a one time fluke."

  • "This was the first time we had dined at Jimmy V's. We'd heard the steaks were very good. I must say the Fillet has to have been one of the best I have ever had - just outstanding. We will be back again soon - and I do know what I'll have again the next time."

  • "They always have outstanding food and the service is great. Waiters are perfectly attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. While it is a steak house they also have outstanding seafood selection and quality as well."

  • "The reviews on Jimmy V's were mixed however, I went ahead and made reservations anyway. The menu looked great and so did the wine list. We enjoyed a drink at the bar before our party of 8 arrived. The bartender offered great service and had a wonderful personality. The entire evening changed when we were seated at our table. The menus were simply on our seats and no wine list was offered. The server needed A LOT more education regarding pronouncing the specials. Matter of fact when she got hung up on a word she just went to the next special. I was so embarrassed for booking this restaurant. Really not what I expected for a business casual fine dining restaurant."

  • "The steaks were properly cooked and tasty, and the sides were excellent. But one 6 oz. steak came with enough bordelaise sauce for a 16 oz, serving and a 16 oz. steak came with barely enough bernaise for a 6 oz. steak, and no one checked back to see if the dishes were ok. Also, we told them one diner was allergic to gluten, and they said no problem. They then managed to flub that person's starter and entrée, so both had to be re-done. My dessert, supposedly Bananas Foster, was the worst rendering I've ever seen -- it was served in a soup bowl, with chunks of banana (I don't think they had been cooked) swimming in a sauce and topped with ice cream. They also served their escargot in enough garlic butter for 3 servings -- beyond extravagant."

  • "everything was splendid...however our waiter knew nothing of the wine list. could not make a recommendation when we asked for comparison to what we liked. He said he would send someone over to answer our questions and never did. So we just ordered a couple glasses. that was the only disappointment. otherwise it was very good."

  • "The service was quite good and the food cooked perfectly. While this is certainly not an inexpensive restaurant, we found the quality to be above that of others in its category therefore worth the price. This is certainly better atmosphere than most, with quiet background (live) music and tasteful lighting (not bright and garish, nor so dark you can't read the menu). While I certainly went there for the steaks, the menu includes a wide variety of offerings for those not interested in beef. We will definitely go back!"

  • "My wife and I ordered a steak and because it was a special occasion added two lobster tails (market price - big mistake). The steak and lobster weren't particularly good but we didn't say anything. We ate the steak and part of the lobster. When we finished, they brought the left-over lobster neatly wrapped? We did not request this. Then we got the bill!!! $85. per lobster tail - the steak was $30. This is the biggest rip-off we have ever encountered @ a restaurant. Please be ware if you go there."

  • "From start to finish everything was deelish. Loved the lavender martini. I had sea bass, others had filet and cowboy steak (talk about the Flintstones) that was huge. Wait staff was so accommodating and very professional. Thank you all for a fabulous evening with friends."

  • "Very nice place, albeit a bit pricy for it's location. Great service, but I have to say the restaurant wasn't even half full on a Saturday Night. Waiter bragged about the quality of the steak, and he was absolutely right... Enjoyed everything about the evening.."

  • "Service was v. good, my food was superb and perfectly cooked (I recommend the wedge salad and the filet mignon). Unfortunately, my step-mother's prime rib arrived cold and by the time someone came to take it back and it was returned, we had finished eating and she no longer wanted it. The maitre d' was very good about it, apologised profusely and took it off the bill with no issues. Such a shame because we had been enjoying it up until that point. We would definitely try again in the hopes it was a one-off problem."
