Diner Reviews
  • "The good was excellent! Service was very good and balanced perfectly, not intrusive at all."

  • "I have been to lunch a few times now at Jimmy V's, my service is always fast and the food is very good, I regularly get the working lunch, the hostess that is always there is very pleasant. The new dish chopped salad is also now a favorite,"

  • "This is my 3rd time visiting, as in both prior experiences the food and service was great, but mostly we just like the casual clean vibe and feel of Jimmy V's. I am sure we will return again."

  • "Went there for my daughter's 22nd birthday. Was a Sunday afternoon and they weren't very busy, but had a great experience. Food was great, server Kelly was knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive to us. We didn't eat outside, but they had a really cool fireplace table on the patio. Love booking through Open Table"

  • "Had the eggplant appetizer and the roasted chicken. Eggplant had to be sent back because it was not hot. Second try was better but still not a hot dish. Also needed a more generous portion of red sauce. The eggplant was nice and crispy though. The roasted chicken was well presented but was also not particularly hot. The chicken was warmer than the bed of mashed potatoes which were only slightly warm. The wine pours were generous and were good. Service was okay, despite servers all over the place and a not particularly busy time of the evening, our server seemed stretched in handling the number of tables assigned. Seems the restaurant is still working out the kinks."

  • "We had a reservation and were seated right away and on time. The food was very good and the service excellent, dispite being quite crowded as well as a private function going on. Will definitely return."

  • "Jimmy V's was a great place to take a date and some friends. We found the spot randomly while going for a run one day and figured we would try it out. It's right next to the convention center and Marriott so there's a lot going on outside, which was good. Good views and the restaurant is very expansive giving it the feel that other tables aren't smashed up and listening to your conversations. Theres a bar and the place has TV's all around for watching the game. Good for NCAA tournament season. THe kitchen is open for the public to see what going on, which in my opinion is fantastic. It feels like they aren't trying to hide stuff when they are cooking your food. Overall good experience. Portions were filling and tasty and reasonable priced."

  • "I was glad I tried the restaurant , but would not be in a hurry to go back. Service was ok and nothing spectacular on the menu."

  • "Reservation handled well, seated on time. All great. Love the craft beer and pizza. Lots of options for small plates and bigger entrees."

  • "We had reservations for a group of 4 and were seated almost immediately. The house was very busy and it was approximately 12 minutes before someone came to get out drink orders. There were several times during our dining experience that we went with out drinks. However the food was excellent! We ordered 2 pizzas along with and appetizer and everything was great!"

  • "Brought a special person to dine with me, food was great as well as service, the patio was cool, notably the pizza was very good."

  • "I was really disappointed. We've eaten here 3 times now when we've visited Raleigh. The first time we went mid-afternoon Saturday. Great experience - food and service were good. Last weekend we were there for dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday. Friday was very busy. Food was good but service was only so-so. Took a long time for the food to come up. It didn't come up at the same time so part of the table had to wait for the others to get their food. Saturday morning we were one of the few tables there. They had a great buffet but we wanted to order pancakes. There was only one chef and he was so busy filling Sheraton room service orders that it took 45 minutes for one order of pancakes in an empty restaurant. Not going back!"

  • "I went there on a bad day. The restaurant is connected to a hotel and there was a cheerleading competition that same day. There were a bunch of kids running in and out of the restaurant which just ruined the mood and atmosphere for me. This was not the restaurants fault but something to note. The food was awesome."

  • "I was there at 9:30 on valentine's Day, but it was surprisingly well maintained. The only issue was that they had run out of a few things at the point in the night. The filet I had was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The au gratin was great too. Not a dazzling beer list, but adequate for most."

  • "It Was valentines day and our reserve d seat put us close to the door and between two other couples. Barely 2 and a half feet separated us. The service we received was excellent and attentive. I observed the whole wait staff was moving at a rapid pace all night. The food was wonderful and priced in line. We would have given it a very good if the seating had not been so close to the door to feel the cold air and between 2 other tables that we were apart of each others conversations."

  • "we went to jimmy v's for valentines day, loved the restaurant! ambience was amazing! we sat at one of the tables with flames in the middle of it...very romantic!! food was excellent! we loved the sweet potato fritters..the steak was better than sullivans...the bread pudding was to die for. main isssue was service, we had a young man who kept completely forgetting about us. we eventually asked to switch servers to a young girl who did much better."

  • "The Sheraton has been in a long drought for evening dining as one of the two major hotels in downtown Raleigh. Jimm V's provides both basic road warrior dinner choices, e.g. pizzas, burgers, but also has some grat Italian tastes. We opened with Blue Pappadews, which were tangy and well presented, then had a year'sth of arugula (not my fave) in a bett/gopat cheese salad. Wife had eggplant torte from appetizer prtion of menu as entree and I had the rigatoni bolognese. That dish also had some great seasoning and in general the food was good and fun."

  • "I have always liked this place walking by it on Fayetteville St. I definitely wanted to visit it someday when we have special occasion. Unfortunately there were no much available tables and we were seated at the back side of the restaurant. It was ok, but not that romantic compare to the front side, one closer to the street. It was quite noisy too, there was a birthday party on the table next to us. Food was excellent. I had seafood risotto and my husband had short rib. They make good martinis and had excellent rose wine :). Service was good."

  • "We had a good experience at Jimmy V's overall. Their menu had some great options, the food quality was good (especially dessert!), and our waiter was attentive. They did fall short of expectations with how long the food took to come out. It took a VERY long time. Our waiter was still attentive and kept our drinks going, but they were obviously pretty backed up in the kitchen and having a hard time keeping up."

  • "Went for Restaurant Week in January 2014. The atmosphere is really cool, tall ceilings, lots of stone & wood, open kitchen area. There is a nice patio area, but we didn't sit there. It was noticeably loud in the place, which impeded conversation only somewhat, so I wouldn't recommend for those hard of hearing (at least not during peak hours). The service was good, but a little slow. I can't fault our server; he was great. It was super busy, so I think our food was simply delayed due to all the other orders. Our server was really attentive. Appetizers were great, especially the meatballs. The braised short rib entree was phenomenal; so tender that you won't need a knife. Dessert was also excellent, I recommend the bread pudding."

  • "We went to Jimmy V's for Triangle Restaurant Week. Very nice! The food was great and the service was outstanding! One of the best waitresses we have ever had! One thing I would do diffrently was I would put the Hostess Stand in a diffrent location and I would also dress the Host in something other than jeans and a blue polo. Not very classy!"

  • "The 1st time I visited this location, a group of neighbors from Eagle Ridge, my wife & I reserved 2 tables on New Year’s Eve to have drinks, conversation, and snacks and to bring in the New Year together. J V's surpassed my expectations. The food was great and the service was great. We had a great evening that included meeting NC State basketball legend, Dereck Whittenburg and the head baseball coach, Elliott Avent. The night was capped off by a great view of the Acorn drop. I later invited friends to meet me there to watch the Panthers play San Francisco in a playoff match up a couple of weeks later. The food was great and the service was great! The only downside of this day was that the Panthers were defeated, ending their season."

  • "Food is pretty good Italian. Service was poor from knowledge of the daily specials to understanding how each menu dish is prepared. Poor attention to maintaining drinks and remembering previous requests."

  • "Meet some friends for dinner, we all had a super time and really enjoyed the music food nd plain good times. I order the calamari and it was the best one I have in Raleigh for sure, the wine list was great too, the bartender Jessica very helpful."

  • "Decided to go out to dinner last minute on Christmas Eve. Checked on open table for reservations and Jimmie V's downtown popped up. We were so please with our experience. The service was great, food was tasty and the atmosphere modern and cozy at the same time. We ended up having a great Christmas Eve dinner, one that we will always remember. We will be back!"

  • "The filet was quite possibly the best filet I have ever had. Extraordinary! It literally melted in my mouth. My daughters ordered lobster mac and cheese which was incredibly bland, and the duck confit pizza which could have been a true home run but, was also not very good. I think they forgot the duck and it was dry. I guess if you are going to a steak place, eat steak, its the best! The service is superb. Our waitress was always available and ready to help us at a moments notice."

  • "recently went to Jimmy V's in downtown Raleigh meeting a few friends for drinks and appetizers, I was very impressd with the restaurant, it is not a hotel restaurant, feels like a small business, I especially enjoyed the wine selections, and just had a great time with our group, will be back."

  • "I was a little taken back with the length of time to get our food. The service was slow but I believe the restaurant was under staffed. The food was good although the portion size seemed small for the price. The overall ambiance was very nice. I am not sure i will come back but I would recommend this place but don't be in a hurry."

  • "It was a great "first time" experience. The weather was perfect for outside dining where we were quite comfortable. We tried three different pizzas and found it hard to decide which was best. We will have to go again to try other entrees on the menu."
