We ended up not staying for dinner because the menu they had online was nowhere near what they were serving at the restaurant. We found out when we got there that they were in the middle of transition, which is fine but they should have updated their website. My husband and I were so disappointed because we felt like we wasted our time, we were looking forward to our dinner date only to find out that they have basically only had "bar food". :( Our server was nice and understanding when we told her we didn't want to stay for dinner. I still have my certificate for this restaurant and just waiting until they have fully transitioned to the full menu. I will update my review then.

I am a regular there and it is a fun place to hang out with a group of people. The staff is amazing and i recommend it to anyone lookin for a fun place to spend your night. The food is a little pricey but pretty good. The staff is also really friendly and the drink selection is great! Highly recommended!

The Food is ok, I had the Sea Bass and it could have been better. Wasn't very mouth waatering like most Sea Bass dishes are. It's cool if you want to eat, drink, and dance afterward. Good live music upstairs, and more og a club scene downstairs.. I would go back but not to eat.

I picked the place because it was close to the comedy club we were going to that evening. The service was good, place was clean and the food was pretty good. Two of us got the Mahi Mahi and it was "okay", but you can't have everything. I was in San Diego all week and there are tons of restaurants around so it's tough to be perfect. I would go back again.

I was pleasantly surprised by the transformation of the place for Valentine's Day. The Jazz band playing music in the background completed the romantic ambiance. The waiters and personnel were courteous and friendly but it did take a while for food to be brought to the table. The food presentation and flavor made it worth the wait. All in all, I'd have dinner here again.

This was our 1st time dining at J.Loves. I was apprehensive due to the reputation for more of a "bar scene" than a restaurant. I was impressed with the drinks made perfectly to our liking. We had the Ahi Appetizer, I would def recommend this, was delish! The salads were very good also, ceasar & house. Hubby and I ordered fish. His Halibut was good, but not great IMHO, my sea bass tasted like it was a bad piece of fish. I took 2 bites and just could not finish it. Our server handled it perfectly tho, they replaced my entree with another, I just got the Popcorn chicken which was good (hard to mess up tho) and they took my fish off the bill. All in all, not impressive enough for a return visit, sorry.

Very noisy, service fairly unattentive, a good fish (halibut) way overcooked, which was too bad because the dish had some good potential. TVs all over - feels much more like a sports bar than a good restaurant. Too expensive for what it offered. Would not recommend to friends, probably won't go back.

The food was just okay but definitely overpriced. We went for the live music and that was great. Ask for a seat away from the sort on the winter time though. They like to keep the door open so people outside can hear the music and it gets chilly.

Went here with a few friends, the food was amazing and the band was great, but the service was a little slow. I found myself wondering if the waiter was ever coming back. The band was great, but a little loud, sometimes making it hard to hear others at our table and it made ordering difficult. Fun for a group but wouldn't be a great spot for a romantic evening. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar before our reservation time. The bartender was great, and super friendly. Gave great dinner advice.

We sat outside and absorbed the eclectic downtown/Gaslamp crowd as we people-watched. We felt the food was well-prepared and presented well, and served by Jenny, who was unobtrusively attentive and appropriately garbed for Halloween. The Sea Bass with augratin potato crust and bed of risotto was very good. The Calamari appetizer could have been a little bit more tender but was still tasty. We especially enjoyed the several blocks long flash-mob of Zombies as they staggered by, as they celebrated Halloween weekend.

My wife and I were in San Diego looking for a good restaurant that was upbeat and near the action in Gaslamp. Jimmy Love's seemed like it would fit the profile based on other reviews I read online. Overall I think it was overhyped as our experience was about the same as going to the Cheesecake Factory with live music. The food was fine but didn't wow us, I had the Kobe burger and she had the roasted chicken. The place wasn't as energetic as I was led to believe either but may pick up later in the evening. We sat down to eat around 8:30pm out on the patio which was very nice to people watch and not too loud despite being in the fray so to speak. I can't say if I would or wouldn't go back but I am sure there are much better options.

When we made reservation for 10:00 we thought that we were going to have dinner. Unfortunately they stop serving dinner at 10:00 so it would have been nice to know that information before we came. The manager was nice enough to direct us to an alternate place to eat. They should have let us make reservation for no later than 9:30 p.m. that we would have saved ourselve the dissapointment.

This is one of those nite spots along 5th Ave, right at the intersection of bustling and noisy people and traffic. Staff are kind and helpful, and the decor harkens back to a bygone era. Boxed in by the adjacent long bar and music stage, the dining area exists only for the early to mid evening hours, and then falls into the hands of the music buff and $12 a drink crowd. Food was good, but preparation could have been much better on the seafood dishes. Never had mussels so overcooked for appetizers, while the seabass was a bit undercooked. But hey, it's a bar and music venue.

wished we'd realized just how noisy it would be. Probably great for the college-scene. Friendly service, adequate food for what it tries to be. Ample proportions, nice (not special) presentation. Probably excellent if that environment (live music, basic food) is what you want. We should have changed as soon as we saw the crowd/noise, but we had others meeting us. We are 40+ years old. The restaurant seems to be focused on 20-somethings --not that there is anything wrong with that, just wasn't for us. Go there if you want a younger, vibrant, friendly, environment.
