A word from Jimmy Kelly's Restaurant
Housed in a glorious Southern mansion in the heart of Music City, Jimmy Kelly’s continues to be the standard by which all American steakhouses are measured. Founded in 1934 while the country was in the throes of the Great Depression and just one year removed from the repeal of prohibition, Jimmy Kelly made a promise to himself and his diners. Simply put, he would serve a great steak, a generous portion of whiskey and insure the service was always attentive. Making good on that promise has been the cornerstone of the restaurant’s success and enabled it to survive and flourish. Now over 80 years later and operated by the third generation of Kellys, it has earned a reputation as one of the grand old restaurants not only in Nashville but the entire southeast. Come anytime and enjoy a great steak and a generous portion of whiskey!Continued

  • "The food was delicious although the Chateaubriand was not exactly as I remember having it at another restaurant in another city. The huge hunk of broccoli could have been presented better with a little lemon butter and smaller amount. The salad was good and the dessert, blackberry cobbler was delicious. Always enjoy eating at Jimmy Kelly's but for the price, they need to improve the presentation."

  • "Our party was very pleased with the service and good food at Jimmy Kelley's. We tried the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and they were crisp and very flavorful. The drinks were made as we like them--so that you could taste the scotch. All ordered the filets which were cooked perfectly, with every bite of each one eaten. A special attraction of the restaurant is their corn cakes. They are small, served piping hot with lots of real butter. Jimmy Kelley's is great for just a night out, or a very special occasion."

  • "I have eaten in steak houses and fine dining restaurants all over the country and Jimmy Kelly's remains one of my favorites. They do not try and keep up with the latest trends, but follow their long time maxim that a good drink and a well prepared meal make for a happy diner. I recommend arriving early for a drink at the cozy bar, best barstools and bartender in Nashville! I love the old time feel of the decor, it reflects that many before you had enjoyed Jimmy Kelly's. my wife and I shared the excellent Shrimp Remoulade and then each ordered a filet. My wife order the 1/2Filet while I went with the standard cut. With salad and potato included in the price, this was a good value. Food was outstanding, but the service was even better!"

  • "Food is great and wonderful service. Prices are also excellent. You will get out with a very reasonable bill and it is surprisingly easy to overlook the lack of prime beef selections."

  • "We went with two other couples and had a wonderful evening out. Our service was impeccable and food was OUTSTANDING!! Can't wait to go back again."

  • "The oysters were the best I have found in Nashville. Blackberry cobbler was as good or better than an i;have ever had."

  • "Everything else was terrible like the appetizer and the two sides we got. Priced way too high for just a good steak. Definitely will not be back."

  • "we both ordered the extra cut filet but mine was OBVIOUSLY half the size. i said something to the waiter but he just laughed it off. i thought perhaps i didn't order the extra cut but when the bill arrived, i was charged for the larger cut. also we paid with a $100 gift card that we purchased during your christmas special. the whole bill was charged on my credit card. i called JK and was told the waiter probably charged the credit card before entering the gift card. this put a hold of $100 on my account for 3 days. not cool. the food didn't seem up to par.... having been many times in the years past. corn cakes were disappointing too. probably won't be back....."

  • "We went with another couple to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was a perfect evening. This was our second time at Jimmy Kelly's and we loved it as much as the first. The food was outstanding. And, our waiter, Arthur, was charming, attentive, and fun."

  • "My wife and I chose to celebrate our 6th anniversary at the restaurant. The service was outstanding. The food was not quite as good as the last visit that we had taken. Steak was better than average - but needed a little more seasoning I thought. The decor of the restaurant appears work - it might be time for an upgrade. Service was what I would expected - always well taken care of. For that reason alone, we will be back."

  • "Steak was good but we have had better. For the price I would expect the steak to be "The Best". Dessert portion was lame, the taste was excellent but portion too small. Must other restaurants of this caliber have much bigger dessert portions that can be shared."

  • "This place is highly recommended! We make sure to visit every time we are in town. The steaks are absolutely amazing! My favorite is the blue cheese stuffed filet! LOVE the house salad with blue cheese dressing and the BBQ prawns are out of this world! Our server Steve was fantastic! He was attentive without being overly, which is impressive in itself! The crème brulee and blackberry cobbler are a great finish to an absolutely wonderful dining experience! Make sure to make reservations - this place can fill up fast! We'll see you again in a few months!"

  • "Not a very good dining experience at all. Steaks were not cooked correctly. Our order was not correct. Onion rings came out too late.... Steak had to be returned to because it was just warm. The other steaks that were ordered was cold within a few mins... Ver very disappointed.. Will not be returning."

  • "Always wanted to try and was not disappointed. Nice to see "old time" theme. The NY strip was excellent and cooked to order. They know what rare beef means. The blackberry cobble was excellent."

  • "The food was a little pricey. I think you could get a similarly cooked steak at a JAlex for about 10 dollars less but if you are looking for a romantic evening out with the wife and don't mind spending the extra money then its a good place to eat. We had a party of 4 and the tables seemed a little small. The service was ok not over the top like you would expect in a restaurant of this caliber. The corn cakes were good but a little on the burnt side. Overall it was a good experience not sure if I would go out of my way to go back."

  • "After the meal walking to the vehicle I asked my business partner to rate the restaurant since it was our first time there.... On a scale from 1-10 and not revealing my # to him, he gave me the same rating I had, a 6. The staff was very friendly when we arrived, our waiter did a very good job and when we left, everyone was just as friendly. Appetizer (fried oysters) were great, salad with in-house dressing very good. Steak was good, ordered rare, was a tiny bit over-cooked and lacked flavor as did my partners. Broccoli was cold, not a big deal. We drank water, my partner had one beer, appetizer, meals, tip $125.00 total. Seems kind of high for a six... I will try it again with my wife, but won't go out of my way to make it happen"

  • "Well known restaurant, but the food was really just good, not great. Old style place and would really make sense for an older crowd. For others, I would not recommend it."

  • "I only have positive things to say from the time we walked into the door, met our waitress, ordered a favorite ice cream drink and had an excellent meal. Steaks are cooked to perfection and my husband absolutely loves your tomato salad. Thank you for a nice evening."

  • "This restaurant plays to a crowd of regulars. The large print menu is your first clue that this is a steakhouse for diners of a certain age. Fortunately what Jimmy Kelly's lacks in innovation they make up for with quality. Steaks, baked potatoes, salad and corn griddle cakes. Yum."

  • "We were traveling to Nashville and were looking for a fine dining experience that was not a chain. Jimmy Kelly's caught our eye and we were not disappointed! The entree's were very good as we ordered the KC strip steak and Blue Cheese filled filet. Cooked to perfection. The southern hospitality only added to the evening. You must order a bottle of wine in order to see the most unique table decanter ever!"

  • "The meal started with a shrimp cocktail that consisted of 5 very large shrimp and a spicy cocktail sauce. A salad and baked potato were included in the meal, which was a nice surprise as I thought the steak was al a carte. A perfect filet and 20 oz bone in ribeye cooked to order made a delicious entree. We finished the meal with a large bowl of the blackberry cobbler with ice cream. The food was very good and the portions large. Well worth the money. I recommend sitting near the fireplace and ask for Arthur for a waiter. Jimmy Kelly's is a must do when visiting Nashville."

  • "As a native Nashvillian, I am embarrassed to say it took me 41 years to give Jimmy Kelly's a try. So my wife and I gave it a go to celebrate our 18th anniversary. We had reservations for 7:30 on a Sat. night and were seated promptly upon arrival. Being situated in a historic mansion, I should have expected tight quarters but our table was so close to the other 2 that no conversation was private. Service was great! We opted for two filets (one the Bleu Cheese) with baked potatoe, sauted vegtables, salad and dessert. Steaks were just ok with little/no flavor. Vegtables were fine but not "enough to share" as promissed. Best part of meal was key lime pie and apple walnut cobbler! Simply put there are much better steaks in Nashville."

  • "This was my first visit. I looked all over Nashville for a great place to dine before heading to the symphony...after reading the reviews and looking at the menu ..this was the place. We were seated promptly, service was excellent, wait staff recommended a wonderful wine for dinner...I look forward to my next dining experience. The Bleu cheese filet is a must"

  • "I'd heard very good things about Jimmy Kelly's so I was very disappointed with our experience. A server did not come to our table for at least 15 minutes, we finally had to ask for someone. The house salad was lettuce and bottled salad dressing, not good. My husband's filet was decent, but he's had much better elsewhere. They did have one of our favorite wines and the au gratin potatoes were excellent."

  • "My husband and I went here because I had a gift card from Christmas time. I hear their advertisements all the time, and was really excited to try them out! We got there ten minutes before our 7pm Saturday night reservation, and had to wait in the VERY crowded bar. We saw others come in after us and get seated before us, which did not start our evening off to a good start. Seated at 7:15, we sat at our tables for a few awkward minutes before we were given menus. And then waited another extremely long time before they took our order. The waiter even said something about forgetting about us! Once we ordered, we found out they were out of what we wanted! Um, might want to tell us that up front. For a Saturday night, it was very poor service."

  • "I haven't been to Jimmy Kelly's in about 20 years but the food is still excellent (best NY strip in Nashville) and the servers are always considerate. Had my wife and I seated by some sort of air conditioning vent behind what looked like a window shutter, that froze our feet, but they moved us to another location, even on a Friday night, so I give applause for customer service."

  • "We had ten people, and were given our own private dining room at no charge! The quiet atmosphere in the restaurant allowed us to really have our own conversation and dine without distractions. Our server Mels (we nicknamed her. I think it was Melanie) was so awesome that we'd have her join our party next time! I've seen only a few bad reviews here and they were complaints about it not being kid friendly (amen) and not having sweet tea (we drank cocktails and wine). Loved everything! We'll be back."

  • "My experience was okay/not good. It really wasn't the quality of restaurant we expected for the price we paid. Many other choices to select before I would come back to this restaurant. My steak was over cooked and the ceasar salad was bad. The best thing about the meal was the bake potato was hot."

  • "Had a $100 gift certificate. Spent $150 total. Tipped the waitress well. Not her fault. Onion rings burnt and oily. Sent them back. Steak temps were off. Wife wanted well done, I wanted medium well. We ordered two different kinds of steaks. Neither were correct. We traded steak slices to make out. If the food was good. Full price was okay. But mostly free was not good enough."

  • "The service was not what I would expect for the money I dropped. We were in a room with 5 other couples. No music and everyone talking quite so other couples would not hear what was being said. We will not be back."

  • "We arrived for our 8pm reservation and were seated right away. To start our 4 top was seated at a small table (3 large guys and one women) in the middle of the dining room, after we were seated we were not greeted by our server for 15 min nor were we given menus. Many servers passed us as well as the host and the manager however no one came to our table. Once our server finally came to our table there was no apology for our wait or proper greeting. The food was mediocre and service overall was what I would expect from a Chill's server not a nicely rated steak house. The "shared sides" were a joke and were really meant for one person. I feel our server should have warned us about the size when we ordered 3 sides to share for 4 people."

  • "I have been going to Jimmy Kelly's for the past 25 years but this might be my last visit. JK is a great spot if you want someplace uniquely Nashville, and that is why we went there with a guest that had never been to Nashville before. The steak was just ok, and the presentation was terrible, just a steak on a plate, no garnish no nothing. It as cooked to order but had little flavor or seasoning. The potatos tastes like something frozen out of a box and were half frozen when they arrived at our table, or at least cold, hardly warmed. Even the trademark corn cakes which can cover a lot of sins were never hot and we had multiple orders. Like I said not what it used to be, there are too many other good choices in Nashville."

  • "Great restaurant, Waiters are very knowledgeable, 25+ yrs dining here. Always order steaks, theirs are among the best in Nashville. Fresh catch was listed as "Sea Bass stuffed w/lump crab", asked our Waiter if it was "lump crab" or "lump crab stuffing", he replied "lump crab no filler". Another waiter brought our food & it was lump crab stuffing. It did have lump crab in it, but that's not the way it was explained. My Husband's Bacon Blue Cheese Stuffed Filet was perfect. I waited a few minutes, no sign of the Waiter, I chose to dine with my Husband. When our Waiter came to the table we were 1/2 finished, I explained it was stuffing, he said that's not what he was told, offered to bring me another entree, at that point it was too late."
