A word from Jimmy G's
At Jimmy G's, the evolution and sophistication is provided by an Art Nouveau meets "Mad Men" design style with black granite floors, red wood paneling with large black and white framed portraits. Steel arc lamps reinforce the modern, mid-century aesthetic. Maintaining the existing layout, the space is divided into three interconnection sections: the lounge bar, a central dining room, and two private dining/banquet areas. Guests enter from the street, down a mysterious stairwell through an arched entry way into the restaurant. In the main dining room, shades of yellow dominate, with mustard seat cushions on white lattice backed chairs. Additional seating in the form of elevated U-shaped booths are great for watching all the excitement of the dining room.Continued

  • "Took my son out to dinner this past Saturday night. Absolutely perfectly done strip steaks among the beat I've ever had. Appetizers and side dishes were equally good and perfectly prepared. Overall great dinner that left us both very happy."

  • "We all had Fillet Mignon. All were cooked to perfection and to individual choice. Virgil, our server, was an added treat to the evening. The service was extremely attentive and cordial."

  • "The main dining room had tiles removed from the ceiling exposing electrical and HVAC ducts. This detracted somewhat from the retro ambience which was charming. Our strip steaks were superb -- some of the finest we have encountered. The dessert menu needs attention."

  • "Seated under a hole in the ceiling. Asked to move. They said No. Many empty tables. Server seemed new. Had no concept of timing courses. Salads came out a minute after apps. Entrees appeared before table had a chance to touch salads. So rushed could not even experience the food, but it was really nothing special. Got bill had a drink we did not order. Brought to servers attention. He made good on it. Went to bar area. Husband bought a beer with cash at bar. Bartender did not give coin change back. He did not tell her to keep it. Friend went to bar for a beer. Bartender did the same thing to him! Food is mediocre. Service poor. Bartender is a scammer. Ambience looks like a scene out of film BOOGIE NIGHTS. No intention of returning."

  • "The first thing I noticed at Jimmy G's was the bar. If we were coming just for drinks the night would've been great with just bar scene. Our server, Meredith, was perfect. The steaks were the star of the night. The pork belly and the shrimp tempura appetizers might have been better than the NY Strip I had. Overall a great experience."

  • "This was our first time at Jimmy G's. We loved the restaurant, the ambience and the food. I had the 10 0z New York Strip. In one word: Awesome. My wife had the rib eye filet, equally as great. The portion sizes were perfect. We were there for two hours and were comfortable the entire time. We'll definitely return."

  • "We were excited about trying Jimmy G's but ended up being disappointed . The service was terrible. We waited awhile for everything. My husband ordered a glass of wine it took a long time for them to come back and tell him they were out if by the glass. Then we heard someone at the next table ask for the same kind (you would think they could have opened one sold by the bottle ) Anyway we most likely will not be back. The steak for the price was just o.k. And my chicken skewers were very dry."

  • "Great steak and seafood. My wife said the burger was the best she had ever had. Really wonderful entries. Salads were also very good. They were a little different than most restaurants which was good."

  • "Really had a wonderful anniversary dinner here. We found the prices reasonable for the high quality food that is served. The steaks are amazing as is the rest of what we had, did I mention the mac n' cheese? Our server was top notch as well, Bryce took care of us and made it feel like we were old friends. Would highly recommend to anyone in Cincinnati!"

  • "The food was wonderful. Best Dry Aged Strip I ever had and the Arm & a Leg was superb. I highly recommend and have already."

  • "This steakhouse is just around the corner from the Duke Energy Convention Center. We had an early reservation, as we were going to the wine tasting at 630pm. Our server was Jamison, who did an excellent job of accommodate our time constraints. Attentive, but not overly attentive. Friendly and personable, even chatting wine with us although we passed on wine at dinner. The food was very good but the service was even better. We were very appreciative."

  • "We made our reservation for a party of 4 requesting a quieter spot away from the music of the bar. We were seated in a booth where we could hear the music as background noise but were actually able to have dinner conversations. Our server was efficient yet allowed us time to enjoy our cocktails and each course without feeling rushed. The menu is impressive with interesting choices and we were not disappointed with any item ordered. The Ahi tuna was simply the best any of us had ever enjoyed; it was perfectly prepared. Jimmy G's is slightly off the main path, but it is worth a visit- one of the best meals in town!"

  • "Our waiter, Virgil, was amazing! From the moment he welcomed us to the final goodbye. His professionalism and personality were infectious. His recommendations were spot on and when we come back, we'll be sure to call ahead to see if any of the spare rib gribblers are on the menu! Thanks for making our date night a great one!"

  • "We went to Jimmy G's on a Saturday night for a date night. Enjoyed a drink at their bar prior to dinner. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. The decor of the bar/restaurant is trendy and created a great atmosphere. We sat in a booth for dinner (would recommend it) and felt removed from the main floor while still a part of the scene. Our server was wonderful and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was very good - everything from our appetizers to main courses. We'll definitely go back."

  • "This is our go-to for special occasions. It is a steakhouse with quirk. For example, I had a tomato-mozzarella salad. Could have been boring and run of the mill, but it wasn't. Incorporating heirloom tomatoes and fruit gave it an extra kick that gave a standard salad a unique spin. The beef tenderloin was perfect and worth very penny. Love this place, can't wait to go back."

  • "Jimmy G's is a hidden gem in downtown Cincinnati...close to convention center. The service, food (tuna steak, steak, mac n' cheese, crab cake, & salads) and atmosphere were all outstanding. One of our most enjoyable and memorable dining experiences in months. We enjoyed meeting friendly people at the beautiful bar and even had the honor to meet the highly talented chef (Jimmy), the easy-going restaurant owner (Ron), the very engaging general manager (Tim), and the great service from Alexis (bartender) and Emily the hostess. We were truly made to feel welcome and met some new friends. Do yourself a favor and visit this special restaurant & bar...Jimmy G's...beautiful people inside and out with that sparkle to serve & please."

  • "About this somewhat hidden gem in the downtown area. Located on Elm, it is somewhat secluded. The glass front leads to steps that take you below street level to a elegant, but comfortable restaurant. The banquettes reflect the days of the Rat Pack as you may dine and view the entire room. The service is outstanding, and the food is remarkable. From the "Gribble" to the steaks, everything is top notch!"

  • "Food is truly amazingly good. The bar, not so much. There is no cocktail menu or beer list available and the bar seems to be far off from the high standards seen in the kitchen. The atmosphere is part night club, part old steak house, with a dancy soundtrack to boot. The food makes it all worth while though, I haven't had a dish I wasn't blown away by."

  • "Dined at Jimmy G's for the first time last week and was very impressed. The atmosphere is edgy but has a warm feel, which I loved. The staff was all very attentive and personable - a joy to converse with. The food was great. The lobster bisque was the best I've ever had. The crab cakes were superb right down to the Asian noodle salad it was served with. The strip steaks held their own. The mac-n-cheese left a little to be desired in my opinion, but was still fairly good. The crème brule was delightful and Jimmy G's nearly world famous fire ball ice cream was amazing! I would definitely recommend trying Jimmy G's!!!"

  • "First time here was on Valentines Day. The place was not busy as I overheard them say they had around 20 cancellations. All of the food we ordered was great! The problem was the service. The girl who brought our water was awkward, the server was very nice... when you could find her. I am always bummed when I eat somewhere and the food is great but the service stinks."

  • "Went their for Valentine's Day so it was a special menu. Not very busy. Ordered an appetizer with fingerling potatoes, onions, cheese and a fried egg on top. You could taste each ingredient separately but it did not meld together. We ordered the NY strip medium and the filet medium rare. They came medium rare and medium so we sent them back. They both came back medium rare. At that point, I just wanted my strip so ate it medium rare. The meat was very high quality, had a nice salt seasoning and sear. Mac and cheese was incredibly dry but was recommended by our waiter as being awesome."

  • "Not worth the expense, Serice was subpar at best Are our steak with a butter knife with no offer of an actual steak knife. We have been here in the past with much greater experience."

  • "My son's pick for his birthday. The six diners at the table were all delighted. I love the atmosphere, it was cozy. The food was really good. We had a couple appetizers and both were good. The strip steak was so full of flavor. My son had the cornish hen and he totally enjoyed. We had several sides and we all tasted them. The asparagus was great, mac& cheese great as well as the 4 fat fries. I've been wanting to eat here for some time, I am so happy the time finally came."

  • "This review is based off of multiple visits to this location. I understand that this is not best location in the city but after a year I would have thought this place would have become a hit. The food is amazing and the head chef is always out talking to the guests and willing to please. I have had almost everything on the menu and it is all well thought out and delivered with perfection. I truely believe this is the best steak house in Cincinnati and if you have not tried it you should!!! The filet is the most tender, tasteful filet I have ever had. Hats off to you Jimmy and I look forward to my next visit hopefully the gribblers will be back!!!"

  • "Jimmy G's is a wonderful higher end, yet casual, dining option in Cincinnati. Terrific food and service was offered at our dinner. Our waiter and staff were extremely attentive yet not overbearing. Our waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and providing suggestions. He also was very friendly and entertaining. First plates and appetizers were outstanding. Our steaks were cooked flawlessly and the short, but more than capable wine list was very accommodating to our tastes. We shall return!"

  • "It makes me so sad when the food is the best I have had anywhere and the server is so poor you just want to walk out. The server who was not busy because the restaurant was slow disappeared brought the wrong food, could not even bring a pen so we could sign our bill. We had to chase down a bus boy. Although the food is awesome, unless they start a carry out we will never be back."

  • "It was Zero degrees outside, but very warm at Jimmy Gs on 07JAN14 when we had dinner there to celebrate my wife's birthday. The service was superb, and our server was extremely attentive to my table. Because of the cold weather, we had the dining area to ourselves this night. The food presentation was excellent. All parts of our meal were pleasing. Our salad presentation was great in a very unique plate. The steak dinners were cooked to our specifications and the deserts were tasty!"

  • "Maybe because it was New Year’s Eve but the service was terrible the ambience of the place reminded me of a VFW hall. The food was outstanding but for me not a good enough reason to go back. Very disappointed, still looking for that downtown gem that reminds me of old La Normandie."

  • "Melt in your mouth filet mignon, and the best (and easily the largest) shrimp cocktail I've ever had. The house made cocktail sauce is fantastic. Decor is mixed -- is the dining room ceiling supposed to be exposed wires, girders, beams, etc.? Seemed like it was by design, but the design was at odds with the rest of the room. Would definitely return."

  • "This was our first time at Jimmy G's and we really loved it. We loved the environment - we didn't feel cramped closely to other diners and the food was excellent! Steaks were prepared perfectly to order and the side dishes were delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will go there again!"
