A word from Jeffrey's Restaurant
Jeffrey's Restaurant & Bar has been an Austin neighborhood fine dining institution since 1975. In 2012 the restaurant closed for a major renovation and has reopened under the leadership of Austin's premiere restaurant group, McGuire Moorman Hospitality. The clubby restaurant, nestled in a quiet neighborhood just west of downtown features a lively bar, three distinct dining rooms and menus featuring dry-aged prime steaks, updated classic fine dining and locally sourced produce. Private dining is available, free valet is standard & local car service is offered.

Josephine House offers lunch, brunch, happy hour, dinner & Monday night steak frites. The Clarksville cottage features a small marble bar for coffee or cocktails, intimate tables in the dining room, shady nooks on our patio and a grassy front lawn for lounging. Chef Alex Manley and her team prepare an eclectic daily menu featuring the best locally sourced products.

Diner Reviews
  • "Intimate. Very friendly, casual atmosphere(attire was all over the place), and great service. We took our two teenagers and they were the only "kids". Not sure if I would consider it" kid friendly". Impressively outstanding steak menu! This is a place for special occasions."

  • "Our dinner was was one of the best meals we have ever experienced in Texas. The appetizers and salads are creative and exciting! We all ordered seafood and it was perfectly fresh and prepared beautifully. The seafood risotto and the tile fish were perfect. The meal was highlighted by the classic service touches of complementary amuses bouches on arrival and tiny bites of sorbet following the entree. The bar area was hopping and our small central dining area was quiet enough for good conversation. Wine list is well chosen and we had two perfect pairings. A memorable meal!"

  • "Wife and I really en joyed an anniversary dinner at Jeffrey's. It was quiet enough, and food and service was top notch...a great evening asll around!"

  • "We celebrated our birthdays at Jeffries and had a very nice dinner. It was pricey and we had three courses yet and shared a dessert. The tile fish was very good."

  • "THE best "date night" or special occasion restaurant in Austin. Romantic, excellent service, and incredible food. Can't imagine spending our anniversary anywhere else."

  • "When you go out for a celebration and know you are going to spend a lot of money, you expect the food and dining experience to be perfect. My wife and I had a good dinner at Jeffrey's, but it was not amazing. The steak portions for the price are small, the seafood risotto was more risotto than seafood and the shrimp were a bit overdone. A final pet peeve, there were certain items which we were told by our waiter would be complimentary and when the bill came we were charged for them. Since we did eat them, we didn't want to cause a fuss, but in the future we would be much more careful."

  • "We went for our anniversary and had a wonderful dining experience. Our waiter, Franc, was very helpful and all his recommendations were perfect. The "martini cart lady" made divine martinis and had such a beautiful, infectious smile and friendly nature. All our food was wonderful, but what really stood out for us were the warm spinach/dandelion salad, the crispy brussel sprouts and the Grand Mariner dessert souffle. Everything else was exceptional as well, but those 3 were what we refer to in our house as "moanable"! The only downside to the experience is that the tables are so close that if you are chewing and not talking you feel like you are eavesdropping on the next table's conversation. Other than that it is perfection!"

  • "My husband and I went to Jeffrey's for my birthday dinner recently. Unfortunately it seems the quality of the food has deteriorated since our last visit. My husband ordered a very expensive steak that was just adequate, nothing special. Our order of brussel sprouts was drenched in oil. The chocolate soufflé was dry and missing any sauce. Needless to say we were very disappointed. The one bight spot was our very helpful waiter. Too bad he couldn't also cook our food."

  • "We had a wonderful 20th Anniversary dinner. The service was great the food was very good. Felt it was a little expensive for what we got. But it was a special occasion!"

  • "We had a very good meal at Jeffreys. The service was terrific. We loved the fresh flowers and the ambience. Would return. "

  • "My wife and I spent our wedding anniversary dining at Jeffrey's and we had a good time. The food was superb and very well prepared, while the service was attentive and cheerful. Even though we knew going in it was an expensive restaurant, the bill at the end of the meal (without dessert) was still surprisingly high. Our final judgment is that we had an exceptional meal, but one that was not a particularly good value."

  • "While Jeffrey's used to be one of our favorite restaurants, we had not been in several years. We went over the weekend - and it was excellent! Everything we ordered was outstanding, the service was attentive but not intrusive, I like the remodel. Would highly recommend Jeffrey's."

  • "The food was fabulous; the wait staff very attentive and pleasant ! It is pricey but worth it for the fine dining, food, wine, drinks, dessert, etc; I just cannot say enough about how delicious the meal was; we celebrated a college graduation and the adult kids loved it!! I will definitely eat here again and again......."

  • "The food has always been spot on every time I've dined here. Had the squash and little gem salad--was to die for. Service, staff, ambience, all impeccable. Amazing restaurant!"

  • "I was prepared to dislike Jeffrey's as old, over-the-hill and overpriced. but the food was much better, and more creative, than I expected. It's more than just old-school Texas haute cuisine, with big steaks and powerful sauces. We had a warm spinach salad that was extraordinary, with a very appealing presentation. our entrees were also excellent. My wife had seafood risotto and I had pouched halibut. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and well-presented. I especially liked the idea of serving the halibut over a vegetable ravioli; it was a nice pairing. Austin now has a lot of really good restaurants, but Jeffrey's can hold its own. The dishes are pricey, but not overpriced. Compared to Fino, it may even been a bargain. We'll go back."

  • "We had an excellent celebratory meal for my wife's birthday. I love the unique options, such as the cheese cart and martini cart. The servers were well-versed in the food selections and paced the meal perfectly. We began with a 3-cheese board that we picked from the dozen selections on the cart, and they also gave my wife a complimentary gin martini, which she loved. We split a crab cake as an appetizer and then split the 14-oz Beeman Farms (Yoakum, Texas) ribeye, which was dry aged and cooked to perfection. While prohibitively priced ($75), the steaks are designed to split between a couple, as our steak was cut into six slices that made sharing easy. The sides were large, too. Don't forget dessert -- I loved the espresso souffle!"

  • "Loved the buffet, prawns, lobster, salad to die for but cold beef and cold lamb?"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Sadly, I cannot say much more than: Just not that great. SUPER stringy and salty skate. Ate less than half of it. However, the brussels sprouts were really good. But out of $200 worth of food that is my only big compliment. "

  • "very expensive. not enough moderate or even pretty high options compared to borderline crazy pricing. positioned as a result to be relegated to only special occasion. "

  • "My only negative is the ridiculous outfits they make the valets wear. Otherwise, incredible service, incredible food. Our anniversary spot."

  • "My wife and I dined at Jeffrey's for our anniversary and I must say we were very disappointed. The one highlight of the evening was the fried oysters. Delicious. I also ordered the Caeser salad and it was almost unedible. I left 3/4 of the salad. My entree was the Halibut. Beautiful presentation but the sauce and Halibut were in my opinion overly salty."

  • "Pricey but worth it. One of the best meals we have ever had and a wonderful anniversary celebration."

  • "From the arrival greeting by the valets through to the complimentary limo ride back to our hotel, the service by the hostesses, wait staff and dining room manager was superb! Food was excellent as were the wine list and the martini cart. We will go back!"

  • "Jeffrey's has excellent service and excellent food, good selection of wine. The ambiance is great. Will definitely return as this is currently our favorite let's splurge restaurant."

  • "I loved the ambiance including the company, a vibrant in color and in energy restaurant that put a big smile on my face. The food was very good and tastefully garnished. Cheese and bread was good and warm. The quince paste was perfect complement. The marble buffet table was beautiful and the food was a pleasant decoration that was as good to look as to taste. The service was not intrusive and though the dessert was not ticketed to the kitchen it did come out once the server noticed. Enjoyed the experience and enjoyed the view both thru to the kitchen, as well as the view through the windows. The namesake of the restaurant would be proud to have here name adorn such a lovely dining experience. Thank you Josephine House."

  • "Johnny the waiter was excellent. Food outstanding. However made our reservation one month in advance but was seated at the tiniest two-top against a wall. This was the ONE thing that marred an otherwise wonderful experience."

  • "From the time we were greeted through the door to the time we departed, this establishment exuded nothing but warmth and class. The service was impeccable, the food perfectly prepared and top notch and the overall feeling wrapped it all in a beautiful package of easy elegance. We are new in town and this will be a regular on our list."

  • "A wonderful experience, southern elegance and charm, not a hint of pretentiousness . The food was excellent, we shared a dry aged t bone, crab cake and asparagus. Yum! While the food was great the real stunner was the service, probably the best I have ever experienced. Go, you will not be disappointed!"

  • "We have enjoyed a number of Austin's best restaurants in recent months. At the top of our list is Jeffrey's. We have been to Jeffrey's before, but not since its remodeling. The remodel effort was a very positive one, and the best news is that Jeffrey's food and service remain the best in Austin. The fried oyster appetizer, and our veal chop and steak main courses were outstanding! The souffles for dessert topped off a fabulous dining experience. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but for those who want to experience Austin's best, you won't be disappointed!"

  • "When Jeffreys is great, it's very great. When it's bad, it's not that bad but not worth the outrageous prices. They need some consistency and WOW flavors for the prices they charge. there are better restaurants in Austin with better prices. But, if you're lucky, you'll be there on a day when they are great and you won't care about the prices. A month ago we were there on a WOW day, a couple of days ago we were there on a bad day and it was very disappointing. Even the bartender couldn't get their usually perfect Manhattans right."

  • "Had a great experience here the other night. Great drinks, amazing food. Atmosphere was incredible. Wish we would have been able to take our time and enjoy--but we were a bit rushed. I would not recommend if you are in a hurry. The staff was accommodating, but it is better to take your time and enjoy all the flavors and ambiance."

  • "This was a special night for my mother and Jeffrey's did not fail to make the night memorable. The recommendations were true to the hype: appealling to the taste buds and visually appealling too. The selection of drinks was impressive and the highlight was having a made-to-order martini right at table side. All-in-all we had a wonderful time"

  • "The Pink shirted, khaki shorts on the valets should have clued us in to the East Coast Cape Cod atmosphere of Jeffrey's. The meal was lovely. My Kale Caesar was piled high with Bluebonnet lettuce and topped with grilled kale. The dressing was rich and creamy. My companion's Chateaubriand Au Poivre was tender and perfectly cooked. My Roasted Fruits de Mer, topped by pea shoots, was an ocean delight. Succulent scallops, Snow Crab claw, Gulf Shrimp and tiny clams covered the Blue Crab Risotto. Each item expertly prepared and complemented by the sea-sauce bathed Risotto. The meal ended with a rich multilayer Valrhona chocolate "birthday"cake coated with chocolate buttercream icing. A total delight."

  • "I can't say enough about this place! My boyfriend and I went for New Year's Eve to have dinner and it was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had in a restaurant . The food was amazing. My boyfriend said it was one of the best steaks he has ever eaten and truest me, we live in LA and have access to some of the best restaurants . Our server "Frank" was so cool and we really enjoyed spending the evening with him. Please go to this place and enjoy!!! I never write reviews but I loved this place so much that I just had to say a little something."

  • "This is the first time we have been back since Jeffrey's reopened. The space looks great, the wait staff is top notch. Sadly, the food does not live up to the standards of it's past. The vegetables were drowning in sauce and worse, tasted a bit old, the kale Ceasar salad was swimming in dressing (I'm talking puddles) and my lobster was overcooked and rubbery. It is very sad to me that the meal did not live up to past experiences. What used to be my favorite restaurant is now one that I will pass on for the time being, there are too many great places to eat here to only get so-so food."

  • "Be prepared to pay top dollar (for us, anyway) and enjoy delicious and creative cuisine. The decor is warm and elegant and the service excellent. I started with the salad with persimmon and duck confit. It was an exquisite blend of flavors, perfectly dressed, with local persimmons, flavorful and sweet but not mushy. My flounder entree was another delicate flavor blend, expertly prepared. Portions were small, but quite adequate. For heavier fare, my companion ordered the beef carpaccio and lamb osso buco. Both were tasty, but to us, not as extraordinary as the salad and flounder. Our servers gave excellent guidance on food selections and wine pairings."
