A word from Jeffrey's Restaurant
Jeffrey's Restaurant & Bar has been an Austin neighborhood fine dining institution since 1975. In 2012 the restaurant closed for a major renovation and has reopened under the leadership of Austin's premiere restaurant group, McGuire Moorman Hospitality. The clubby restaurant, nestled in a quiet neighborhood just west of downtown features a lively bar, three distinct dining rooms and menus featuring dry-aged prime steaks, updated classic fine dining and locally sourced produce. Private dining is available, free valet is standard & local car service is offered.

Josephine House, located in a chic cottage next door to Jeffrey's, offers lunch, Sunday brunch and evening snacks & cocktails. Menus change daily reflecting chef Jen Jackson's simple American cooking and relationships with small local farms.

  • "I loved the ambiance including the company, a vibrant in color and in energy restaurant that put a big smile on my face. The food was very good and tastefully garnished. Cheese and bread was good and warm. The quince paste was perfect complement. The marble buffet table was beautiful and the food was a pleasant decoration that was as good to look as to taste. The service was not intrusive and though the dessert was not ticketed to the kitchen it did come out once the server noticed. Enjoyed the experience and enjoyed the view both thru to the kitchen, as well as the view through the windows. The namesake of the restaurant would be proud to have here name adorn such a lovely dining experience. Thank you Josephine House."

  • "We have enjoyed a number of Austin's best restaurants in recent months. At the top of our list is Jeffrey's. We have been to Jeffrey's before, but not since its remodeling. The remodel effort was a very positive one, and the best news is that Jeffrey's food and service remain the best in Austin. The fried oyster appetizer, and our veal chop and steak main courses were outstanding! The souffles for dessert topped off a fabulous dining experience. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but for those who want to experience Austin's best, you won't be disappointed!"

  • "When Jeffreys is great, it's very great. When it's bad, it's not that bad but not worth the outrageous prices. They need some consistency and WOW flavors for the prices they charge. there are better restaurants in Austin with better prices. But, if you're lucky, you'll be there on a day when they are great and you won't care about the prices. A month ago we were there on a WOW day, a couple of days ago we were there on a bad day and it was very disappointing. Even the bartender couldn't get their usually perfect Manhattans right."

I would not recommend if you are in a hurry. The staff was accommodating, but it is better to take your time and enjoy all the flavors and ambiance."

  • "The Pink shirted, khaki shorts on the valets should have clued us in to the East Coast Cape Cod atmosphere of Jeffrey's. The meal was lovely. My Kale Caesar was piled high with Bluebonnet lettuce and topped with grilled kale. The dressing was rich and creamy.My companion's Chateaubriand Au Poivre was tender and perfectly cooked. My Roasted Fruits de Mer, topped by pea shoots, was an ocean delight. Succulent scallops, Snow Crab claw, Gulf Shrimp and tiny clams covered the Blue Crab Risotto. Each item expertly prepared and complemented by the sea-sauce bathed Risotto. The meal ended with a rich multilayer Valrhona chocolate "birthday"cake coated with chocolate buttercream icing. A total delight."

  • "I can't say enough about this place! My boyfriend and I went for New Year's Eve to have dinner and it was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had in a restaurant . The food was amazing. My boyfriend said it was one of the best steaks he has ever eaten and truest me, we live in LA and have access to some of the best restaurants . Our server "Frank" was so cool and we really enjoyed spending the evening with him. Please go to this place and enjoy!!! I never write reviews but I loved this place so much that I just had to say a little something."

  • "This is the first time we have been back since Jeffrey's reopened. The space looks great, the wait staff is top notch. Sadly, the food does not live up to the standards of it's past. The vegetables were drowning in sauce and worse, tasted a bit old, the kale Ceasar salad was swimming in dressing (I'm talking puddles) and my lobster was overcooked and rubbery. It is very sad to me that the meal did not live up to past experiences. What used to be my favorite restaurant is now one that I will pass on for the time being, there are too many great places to eat here to only get so-so food."

  • "Be prepared to pay top dollar (for us, anyway) and enjoy delicious and creative cuisine. The decor is warm and elegant and the service excellent. I started with the salad with persimmon and duck confit. It was an exquisite blend of flavors, perfectly dressed, with local persimmons, flavorful and sweet but not mushy. My flounder entree was another delicate flavor blend, expertly prepared. Portions were small, but quite adequate. For heavier fare, my companion ordered the beef carpaccio and lamb osso buco. Both were tasty, but to us, not as extraordinary as the salad and flounder. Our servers gave excellent guidance on food selections and wine pairings."

Having been to the restaurant several times and being a frequent visitor to Larry's other restaurants, you come to expect a certain level of service. The best description of our waiter, who never offered his name, was arrogant. My wife said it like being waited on by Lance Armstrong. In addition to the attitude, food was very slow with no explanation or apology. It will be some time before I return."

We were a little early and chose to start with a drink at the bar. The room is cozy and had a nice fire going! The drink menu had several creative options. Once we were seated the restaurant offered martini and cheese carts. We each ordered a Manhattan that they made at our table. The waiter was prompt but never rushed us. I can't say enough about the quality of service. We had an excellent meal. It was not an inexpensive meal but it was really worth every penny! I definitely recommend Jeffrey's for a special occasion."

  • "The renovation from the previous Jeffrey's is remarkable - a pleasant, quiet, and elegant atmosphere. The service was attentive and personable, and every need was anticipated. The food was superb, beginning with our sharing steak tartare, with capers, parmesan, and truffle slices, to a tasty salad course of Kale Caesar, and entrees of a "Kobe" style steak and grilled pork that were perfectly seasoned and cooked and melted in our mouths. Probably the best steak I've eaten compared the many exclusive restaurants I've dined in most major American cities (e.g., Per Se in New York). We'll be looking forward to returning in the future, although the surprising high price will limit this great restaurant to being our special occasion place."

  • "Overall experience was OK. Tables close but that was fine. Didn't bring out cocktails together which was odd since there was only 2 of us and we both ordered martinis. Lobster appy was good but wedge salad was very heavy on the dressing. Lamb brioche was fine but nothing special. Asparagus was again loaded with overpowering sauce.Potato pave was layered potato topped with dollop of sour cream, pretty boring. The ridiculous part of the experience was the lighting which was so low every table had to pull out IPhone to see the menu. Talk about ruining the ambience. I seriously could not see the food on my plate enough know exactly what was on my fork. I ended up eating a fig + fig thinking one was meat. Not how I like to enjoy my meal."

  • "I came to Jeffrey's after reading the Bon Appetit article and it definately lived up to the hype! Everything was done to absolute perfection, from the timing of service, to the layers of flavor in each and every dish, to the perfect wine pairings this was decadence on a grand scale! Servers were very attentive without being overly stuffy or pretentious and helped guide my friend and I through the menu. If you are looking for the premier of restaurants in America Jeffrey's should be on your list."
