Our table was ready upon arrival. The ambiance was cozy and friendly. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Appetizers of a cheese board and a charcuterie board were outstanding. Food was not rushed. A nice pause between courses making for a nice relaxing dining experience. All entrees were excellent...short ribs, chateaubriand, salmon. Raspberry soufflle for dessert was light, flavorful and delightful. Would definitely go back again.

We have been to Jeanne & Gaston last weekend for dinner. It is hard to compete in that neighborhood but the place seems to hold its own. When we arrived, around 7ish, not many folks were there, however by 8 the place was packed. The menu is rather simple, but the choices pretty much fit to everyone's taste. We had Tuna Tartar - it was great. The Onion Soup was fantastic. Some of the company had Steak Tartar and it turned out amazing. The lamb chops were nice and tasty. The mussels were just OK. For dessert we chose Chocolate Souffle and it was fantastic - definitely worth waiting for. The staff gave us nice sorbet while we were waiting for dessert - it was a very nice and thoughtful.

When this was Gavroche, it was our favorite neighborhood bistro. Not so much now. Nothing particularly bad (except grit in a few of the mussels), but no stand-outs either. Eager to please, but falls a bit short.

I brought two friends from England, and while I can't say the place is anything to look at, we were treated very nicely indeed, and enjoyed our meal. There were two prix fixe options, and we selected the one which allowed us to choose from the entire menu. Everything that was put in front of us was very good, and just the right temperature, from the hot rolls to my crème brulee, which was cool, but not so cold to be tasteless. Though we sat there talking a long time, it happened not to be busy that night, so they let us be--which I thought was nice--coming by now and then to pour us a little more water. This turned out to be a great choice for entertaining my friends, and I'll want to come back on another occasion.

This was our second visit . We visited in the spring when it was too cold to eat in the garden. We loved the food & it was on our list to come back & sit in the garden We finally got to do that Sat night with friends visiting from abroad. Since this is my second review all I can add is that the garden is lovely & truly adds to a great dining experience.

Had been looking around for good restaurant with a backyard and from the reveiws, this looked like it might be a gem. Maybe I was asking for too much, but, althought the service was very friendly and efficient--wine was fair, food was OK, nothing special and the décor was shabby. Wouldn't go back.

Booked Jeanne & Gaston on an impulse as I was going to be in Chelsea. We had an early dinner (630) and the restaurant was quiet. Service was attentive and unobtrusive. The outdoor garden was pleasant. My appetizer (escargot) and main course (short ribs) was excellent, as was the dessert. Prices were reasonable for the quality. Definitely a winner.

Have eaten at Jean & Gaston previously but this time our group opted for the patio on a nice summer evening. We were surprised at how nice and pleasant it was. No city noise from 14th could be heard and the food was great as always. We all tried the $29 prix-fixe and were very pleased with out selections and the portions. The staff was very attentive and we never needed to ask for extra water etc. and never felt rushed. Would highly recommend this to all of our freinds to experience.

I love this restaurant! The staff is personable and attentive without being overbearing. The food is phenomenal (we had a shrimp-based daily special and the lobster/avocado Napolean as appetizers, and Le Bourguignon and Chateaubriand as entrees, followed by the cheese board finishing with raspberry souffle and raspberry summer pudding for dessert. Everything was superb! The garden in the back is charming and quiet with some white lights on the trees, candles on the tables and a fountain in the center. Understated and absolutely lovely. We will be going back next month and anytime we feel in need of a special treat!

Had a lovely lunch in the garden with 4 friends. The $21.99 dollar 2 course menu is not on line or posted outside but is a good deal. $ of us had the tarte flambee to start..like a flatbread, very thin crust pizza with cheese, bacon and tomatoes was light and delicious..and large! Prosciutto and melon also a good choice. Then 3 quenelles..one big one with a great sauce and rice and two..very chikeny chicken crepes! The food was delicious..and we all travel to France frequently, setting and service lovely!

The back patio is lovely. Really nicely done. The people who work there are just wonderful. Friendly - helpful and ready to answer any questions or any requests. There is a however - however the food was not that wonderful. The pork belly was cooked to death! Food could be better. But the back is that nice. The waitstaff that wonderful. So you can overlook the food. Keep it simple and you should not be disappointed. They do the right thing.

Thanks to the small yet effective staff at Jeanne and Gaston for making our One Year Anniversary dinner so special. The courtyard was romantic and quiet. We felt like we'd discovered our own little getaway in the middle of Manhattan. Loved everything I ordered. The seafood napoleon appetizer which was 3 beautiful layers of crab and avocado was only outdone by the braised short ribs I had for dinner. I'd saved our wedding cake and they were kind enough to plate/decorate and present to us at the end of the meal. We have found a new favorite and plan to come back often.

I went to Jeanne and Gaston for my birthday because I didn't have time to plan so I just picked the first french restaurant I found. Cute garden but they have typical plastic outdoor furniture...not very chic, although the candles and streaming lights are cute. The waiters were awful. I asked like 7 times for a place setting and they never brought it until my food came. There were a dozen used glasses on the table at a time. I had to beg for a fork and they didn't even give us enough menus to start, which is annoying considering we spent a ton on food that night. Mehh.... I wouldn't go back. Also, pretty overpriced.

We had gone to Jeanne & Gaston for a Christmas group dinner and we had a good time, good food, good wine, good service. We went for brunch on the way to the Rubin Museum and had another very nice experience. Good brunch choices, and good food for the moderate prices. We are not drinkers but there was a good selection of brunch drinks, plus there is a full bar. It was quiet that day except for the music, and the service was very good. Very enjoyable. We will go again.
